The cha-cha challenge

One week later.

The cha-cha

The quidditch match score would be settled by both teams performing something most unusual – the cha-cha slide… but this challenge was set by the aurors, and thus was not as easy as it sounded.

The dance was used as a fun way of practicing balance and agility, a gymnastics balance beam had been altered so it sat in a five-foot-by-five-foot grid, a beam every foot; and the aurors did the steps on that. It was a bit of fun and reminded them all of their training days – this was something an auror had to learn to do very early on and the dance steps were the most modern training method.

The grid had been replicated in the centre of the court fourteen times, and when the accounts team arrived, the aurors were already waiting for them, having fully warmed up beforehand. The accounts team protested that it wasn’t fair that they hadn’t been told about the beams, but the Minister for sports and games deemed it fair – because the accounts team had actually stormed off laughing while Kingsley set down the rules, and he had clearly stated that the dance was to be performed on the training grids.

The other aurors stood on the benches in front of the seats, dancing to the introduction that was on loop; they were going to join in on this one; and had bets as to who from accounts were going to fall off, and when. The rest of the financial department had arrived to watch, and looked on in dismay, wishing they hadn’t made the bets with the aurors – their money was lost before the challenge began. Anyone who wasn’t ‘on call’ had taken off their leather armour, boots, socks and gloves and were just in the tight trousers, undershirts and wand holsters, the accountants remained in their semi-formal robes.

The first ten minutes of the challenge was spent standardising the steps, and teaching them to the accountants while they stood on the floor.

The track started, everyone mounted their grids in the centre (the accounts quidditch team with help). And the mayhem began.

“To the left,”

The aurors all executed a perfect grapevine, their arms out to their sides for balance; three accountants lost their footing and fell onto the padded mats underneath their grids; the aurors didn’t have mats, if you fell during this, then you deserved the pain of hitting the ground for being clumsy. The beams were designed to disappear if their user was going to tumble, it meant there were fewer injuries – especially as they often duelled on the grids too.

“Take it back now ya’ll.”

The backward steps lost the other four accountants as their feet met gaping holes as they stepped backward; the aurors, however, were all stood at the same section of the grid smiling – that had been quicker than they thought.

“Stop the music!” Yelled Harry, moving to help the accountants. They weren’t physically injured, but their pride had taken a severe tumble. “We win, and that was utterly pathetic!” he shouted at the men sat on the floor.

“Shift out of the way and let’s show you how its done!” Hermione shouted, scrambling elegantly over the seats to take one of the places the accountants had fallen off. The spectators stayed to watch, intrigued by what the aurors were doing. “This is just a bit of fun for us – we do it all the time as a warm down after the gym.” Hermione said to the crowds; Jess, Catherine, Steve, Will, Joe and Matthew joined her on the vacated beams.

“I turn one hundred in three months, and I can do this! You youngsters, should be in your physical prime! This should be a doddle!” he said, taking the last grid. “Lets try this again! But take the mats away!”

“To the left,”

“Take it back now ya’ll.”

1 hop this time,

Each auror jumped forward, landing perfectly one foot in front on their toes before lowering themselves down to the balls of their feet, still bouncing to the beat.

right foot let’s stomp

Left foot let’s stomp,

One-foot wide, flat-footed stomps rattled the frames.

Cha Cha real smooth

This was the point where each auror made the dance their own – the men drawing more attention as they swayed their hips, their fabric-encased rears (and fronts) drawing gazes. The ladies turned it into a more playful move, their arms waving above their heads like belly dancers.

Turn it down,

To the left

Take it back now ya’ll

1 hop this time,

Right foot let’s stomp

Left foot let’s stomp,

Cha Cha now ya’ll

Now it’s time to get funky

The aurors took their arms down from the balancing position they’d had them in previously, and kept clapping their hands to the beat.

To the right now,

To the left

Take it back now ya’ll

1 hop this time,

1 hop this time

The aurors had gradually raised their hands above their heads, and continued to clap as they carried on with the steps. They were all enjoying this, after an uneventful week (with the exception of Lucius’s Hell as he went through the mill with the divorce), it was a great way to relax.

Right foot 2 stomps,

Left foot 2 stomps

Slide to the left,

Slide to the right

The aurors on the sidelines had now joined their colleagues and were sharing the beams.

Criscross,

Criscross

The grids shook as all the aurors jumped, crossing and uncrossing their legs, their landings still perfectly on the grid. They did stop clapping to balance for this, but their arms remained above their heads.

Cha Cha real smooth

The hip wiggles became more sensuous, the aurors smirking and winking at each other as they did.

Let’s go to work

The aurors began to impersonate the accountant’s captain’s stuffy walk at this point, taking exaggerated steps with arm movements that looked like they were shovelling food into their mouths – the audience laughed.

To the left,

Take it back now ya’ll

2 hops this time,

2 hops this time

Right foot 2 stomps,

Left foot 2 stomps

Hands on your knees,

Come on ya’ll, check it out

How low can you go?

Can you go down low?

All the way to da floor?

How low can you go?

The aurors took this point to show off, most gyrating down low in a move that would give pole dancers a run for their money – Hermione and Matthew however, dropped neatly and effortlessly into the box split. At ninety-nine, Matthew was incredibly proud of still being able to drop effortlessly into the splits.

Can you bring it to the top?

Like it never never stop?

Can you bring it to the top?

Getting into the splits was easy, getting back up was a pain – literally, Hermione’s muscles screamed as she rose, she hadn’t dropped into the splits like that for a long time!

The seemingly constant hypnotic steps had many of the observing women swooning over the arses gyrating in front of them, in their opinion, it was a crime to cover them!

Let’s go to work

And with the last instruction, the aurors walked off the edge of the frame, landed perfectly and left the court room laughing. They’d won, and done a spectacular job of showing up the accountants.
