The Night
Marianna sat in front of a vanity, brushing out her long dark hair.
"It is sad that we can\'t do this together," Marianna said to her twin, who was staring out the window at the night.
"I feel bad for you, Mari. I already know who my lifemate is, you have be on display for all to see," Morgan replied, her blue eyes scanning the night below.
"Do you think we\'ll make good lifemates?" Mari asked, finishing her hair and turning to her younger sister.
Morgan giggled, "I think we will, Mum taught us well. And even if we weren\'t good lifemates, our men would be too afraid of daddy to say anything!"
Both girls started laughing and fell with each other onto one of the beds in their room.
"We will always be each others best friend, right? No matter where life take us?" Mari asked, continuing to stare at the ceiling.
"Always."
The two lay like that for a few minutes, until a knock was heard at the door of their room and their mother slipped in.
"Are you ready?" Savannah asked, her eyes tearing up as she looked at her girls.
"Yes, mum, we\'re ready," Morgan responded.
"Okay, now remember, your lifemate may be a little gruff. Male Carpathians are taught to hunt, not to properly deal with women, so give the poor man some leeway while he figures everything out." Savannah smiled at her daughters, reaching out to give them both a big hug. "And remember, he would do anything for you."
"We know, Mum," Mari said, pulling out of the hug.
"I know you know, but need to talk about something." Savannah huffed, fixing non-existent flyway hairs on the girls heads. "Just know I love you both very much, and if you ever need anything, contact me!"
"We will, mum," Morgan agreed, hugging her mother once more.
"It\'s time, princess," Gregori said from the doorway.
Mari gave Morgan and her mum one last smile and hug before going with the father down to where a group of un-mated Carpathian males waited to see if she was the one to give them back their color, their feelings.
"It is time to go to him, Morgan," Savannah told her youngest.
"I know."
"I think he is out in the backyard."
"I know where he is, mum." Morgan gave a small smile.
Mother and daughter hugged again, they had already said their goodbyes earlier, but once didn\'t seem to be enough.
"Thank you, for preparing me for this and for being the best mum in the world," Morgan told her mother through tears.
"Thank you, for being such a joy in my life. I know you will be a joy for Harry too, go." Savannah smiled, tears still in her eyes and on her face, she nodded towards the door.
Morgan took a deep breath and left the room, walking to stairs she moved to the place she knew he was at, waiting for her.
She had only seen him twice in her whole life.
Once when she was little and their eyes met, when he realized she was his lifemate, but she didn\'t really see him, just his eyes, bright green. From that point on, Gregori made sure the two were never near each other. But once, in the heat of chaos, she saw him again, and spoke to him.
The Vampires had been attacking then backing away from the Carpathians for years now, Morgan was four when the great war with them started, and by the age of sixteen, it was still raging.
After a gruesome battle, many Carpathians were hurt and Gregori was healing many warriors. Morgan had been helping put the young ones to bed when she started walking to her own room, she collided with something, or someone.
"I\'m sorry," came a deep, accented voice and Morgan looked up to see those green eyes.
Morgan didn\'t know what to do, there he was, holding her arms, where he had grabbed her to steady her. She could really see him now. Dark, messy hair, strong jaw, wide shoulders... he was very handsome.
"I wasn\'t watching where I was going, I\'m sorry," she replied, looking up at him, into those bright eyes.
His eyes scanned her face, as though they were memorizing each little part of her. He took a deep breath and started to lean into her, lost in his eyes, she leaned forward too.
She could almost feel his lips on hers when Mari called her name out from down the hall.
He pulled back suddenly, his eyes going wide.
"I... I\'m sorry." He gave her a small bow and quickly turned and left.
The deepest sadness hit her as he walked away, as if not kissing her had broken something inside of her.
Morgan brushed the memory away as she neared a small grove of trees in her backyard, where she knew he was.
He moved out from the shadows and stepped up to her.
"Harry," she said, her voice soft.
"Morgan," he replied, his voice husky.
They stood there for a moment, until he took a breath and closed the distance between them, sealing his lips over hers.
And then Morgan knew, what it was like to be whole.
