Trouble in Paradise

Trouble in Paradise

Hermione looked at the radio, fighting an internal battle. Silvano had, after all, said he would be there to listen if she needed someone to talk to. She set the radio back on the table. Josiah was in bed already, and Ron, of course, was not home yet.

She was about to pick up the radio, deciding to inquire about the potion as an excuse to talk to him, when she heard the now familiar distorted voice.

“Nancy?” he asked into the radio.

She picked up the radio and held it to her lips.

“Yes?” she asked tentatively.

He hesitated.

“How are things?” he asked, feeling like an idiot.

Hermione sighed.

“They’re ok, I guess,” she said.

“He’s late again isn’t he?”

“Yes.”

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s not you who should be sorry,” she said softly.

“I truly do not understand why you don’t just leave him,” Silvano said, hoping he had not overstepped a line.

“Because I don’t have proof. I know he has been cheating for three years now, but I don’t have any kind of proof. I guess I am afraid of change, and of what everyone around me might think if I left my husband of twenty years without a good solid reason,” she said, tears beginning to form.

“Do you love him?”

“I----well, to be frank, I don’t know anymore. I would like to say ‘yes, yes of course I do,’ but I just don’t know that that’s true,” Hermione said.

Silvano suddenly felt a little uncomfortable. They had been talking for two weeks now, and he found himself falling for this mystery woman. He was a Slytherin through and through, but he just did not feel right interfering with her marriage.

“Perhaps you should talk to him,” he suggested.

Hermione sighed. He was right of course. She really should just talk to him. She felt nerve wracked at the mere thought of that conversation, however. She decided to change the subject.

“Any progress with the potion?” she asked.

“No,” he answered.

It was true though. Developing this potion with her long distance really was proving to be more difficult than he imagined it would be.

Hermione looked at the clock.

“I suppose I should go to bed now,” she told him. “I doubt he will be home anytime soon.”

“Yes, perhaps you should,” he answered.

“Good night, Silvano.”

“Good night, Nancy,” he replied, and then tapped the radio with his wand, to deactivate it.

Hermione set the radio back on the nightstand and climbed under the covers.

“Ron, I am so tired of all this sneaking around!” Lavender exclaimed, tossing back her blonde hair in frustration.

“I’m sorry,” he replied.

He was getting rather tired of this argument.

“You don’t love me!” she accused.

“You know I do,” Ron said, looking at her pointedly.

“If you did, you would leave her!”

“You know I can’t do that,” he reminded her.

“I know, I know, because of the children. Honestly, Ronald, that excuse is getting old. I am beginning to think it has nothing to do with the children at all, and everything to do with the fact that you still love her!”

“You know that is not true,” Ron said, getting a little angry.

“I am tired of sharing you!”

“I have to go,” Ron said looking at the clock.

It was well after two in the morning. He turned to go, leaving a dumbstruck Lavender staring after him.

Her eyes narrowed at the door he had just exited through. She was tired of this game. She would have him all to herself, even if it meant she had to take matters into her own hands. She made a decision.
