Guy's talk

Ch 7 Guy’s talk

When Tom woke up his thoughts were in turmoil. Momentarily distracted by the heavy weight of Nagini lying coiled up on his lower back, he decided that he needed someone to talk to. Preferably Cassander.

He was the only other Dragon Rider he knew and he was desperate for answers. Tom had never bothered to study the Riders beyond what he needed to control his powers, but he knew nothing of the current problem at hand. Mates.

“Mates?”

“Mates.”

Cassander did not know where to start. This was the kind of talk you were supposed to have with you teenage child, not your mid-twenty-something schoolmate.

“I thought you studied up on this on your 6th year.”

“Just what I needed to not kill someone. Spill it Cass, I’m into it deep here.”

“Why don’t you tell me what you’re ‘into deep’ first, then I’ll answer your questions. It’s easier that way.” Cass said and rearranged himself to sit more comfortably.

“Fine.” Tom sighed.” In August three years ago I met saw this girl walking down the street and then, out of nowhere I just knew that I had to have her right that moment, so I did.” Tom looked away and worried his lip. He didn’t want to think about it, but he had to, for Cass to be able to know what was going on. Cass was going to be disgusted with him. He had done exactly what he swore he would never make another have to endure.

“You claimed her.” it was a statement, not a question. Tom could not believe what he was saying.

“Cla…I raped her!” he nearly yelled.

“Calm down brother, if she is your mate, you did no such thing. But why do you tell me this now? It happened three years ago, no?”

“I met her again in the park this morning.” Cassander frowned.

“And how did that turn out?”

“She’s married.” Cassander’s eyebrows shot to his silver blond hairline.

“Oh dear”

“With a daughter…” Tom sighed, “whom is mine.” Cassander let exhaled heavily and pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Was she a virgin?”

“Yeah.” He replied guiltily

“Was she hurt during the claiming?”

“Says that she wasn’t.”

“Was she angry with you?”

“No”

“Did you reclaim her?” Tom nodded

“Did she say why?”

“Said she needed to feel me again.”

“How do you feel about her?”

“Um, like she’s mine I guess.”

“She’s definitely your mate then. Merlin, Marvolo. Why didn’t you tell me this before? Tom looked away in shame.

“I thought you’d hate me. You’re my best friend, my brother, I didn’t want to lose you.” Cassander had always been the protector of the two of them. Even though Tom was the magically stronger he had always relied on the older boy.

“You’d never lose me, no matter what little brother.” Tom rose from his chair and paced the room. Eventually he stopped and leaned against the marble fireplace. He sank down, put his head against his knees and wrapped his arms around himself.

“Yes I would.” He said brokenly. “If you knew what Dumbl…” he choked on a sob. “I swore I would never…” Cassander jumped from his chair and sat down beside Tom and cradled the younger man against him.”

“Shhh. You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to. He’ll never hurt you again, I swear. I swear.” Tom looked up at him with teary emerald eyes and started to pull away.

“When did you find out? How can you even stand to be around me when you know… I…I’m dirty, I…”

“In the end of your second year.” He said as he reached for the sobbing bundle beside him and pulled him onto his lap and cradled him in his arms. “You’re not dirty little brother, and don’t dare to believe that it was ever your fault.”

They sat like this in silence for a while. Tom let himself be calmed down by the gentle rocking and the steady beat of the heart of the man he considered his older brother, his only family, until now.

“What is going to happen with you mate now. What are you going to do?”

“I’m meeting her at two o’clock in the park.” He answered weakly. Cassander nodded.

“You have a daughter now; you’re a father. How does it feel?”

“Like my heart was going to burst when I held her. She looks exactly like me, but she has her mother’s hair. It’s so red it’s almost crimson, with green eyes.”

“She sound adorable.”

“She is.” Tom sniffed and rubbed away the remains of his tears with the back of his hand.

“You need to built a relationship with you mate” Cassander said “A strong one based on trust, not just attraction.”

“But she’s married.” Tom sighed.

“The marriage was invalid as she was already claimed, brother, but with the no divorce policy you’ll have to come up with a plan to slither you way into her and her family’s life before you state you official clame. So who are they? Their names I mean”

“Lilith and Lily Evans”

“Why ‘Evans’?” Cassander wrinkled his nose.

“Keith Evans….”

“You’re kidding!”

“No, why?” Tom said and glanced up at his temporary lazy boy.

“Keith Evans; 5’11, blond and looks like a mediocre whale.”

“Um, yeah.”

“Ha! That fat git won’t know what hit him!”

“Any reason for your dislike of the man, besides that he’s ugly and constantly drunk?” Cassander snorted.

“He’s the junior CEO of that drilling company you just bought.” Tom bolted up in Cass’ arms.

“You’re kidding!”

“Nope.” Cassander grinned

“Oh, this is too good.” Tom said as he dried the remaining tears from his cheeks. “We’ve got to fuck with him!” Cassander raised a brow at the black haired man in front of him.

“Muggle saying, Cass, you know what I mean.”

“Yeah, I just can’t help myself.” He chuckled. ”Should I arrange a meeting?” he asked with innocent eyes.

“I think a meeting will be in order my fellow prankster.”

“The Riders rise to fly and spread havoc once again!” Tom made a mock salute and they broke down in fits of laughter.

“Shit! It’s already one thirty. Got to go Cass. Thanks for bearing with me.”

“No problem, I’ll send you the book on mates so you’ll know what you’re in for.” Cassander said as he headed towards the floo.

“Yeah, thanks.” Tom said as he waved goodbye.
