Chapter 7

“Not really, no. It’s none of your business, it’s between Yeoh and myself.” Harry said smoothly as he took a step forward to hide Hermione from their view. He wasn’t about to let any of them upset his beloved sister, it had been an upsetting enough evening as it was.

“I will not stand for your insolence, boy.” Snape sneered, noticing how Harry flinched subtly at his words.

“I-I…” Harry stuttered, almost jumping out of his skin when he felt a hand on his back. For a moment he was certain that the hand was going to hit him, and he couldn’t help the whimper that escaped his lips as he slumped his shoulders and closed his eyes. He stayed frozen like that for a second, before realizing it had just been a flashback and his uncle was not in the room. Opening his eyes, he looked up from the floor to see Snape, Malfoy, Zabini and Parkinson watching him intently.

“Harry? Are you alright? Are you hurt?” Hermione’s worried voice seemed to break through his temporary stupor. Still staring at the Slytherin Trio and their teacher he answered with a soft voice, so soft it was almost inaudible.

“I’m fine. I…just hurt my back this morning. I’m just a bit sore.” Harry lied, not wanting to worry her further and not wanting his biggest rival to find out just how fucked up he was.

“Harry…” Hermione said with a serious voice, letting him know that she didn’t believe him for a minute.

“Really, sis, I’m ok. It’s just to do with what we talked about earlier, okay? Now is not the time or the place to discuss it.” Turning towards Hermione he pleaded with his eyes that she would let it go for now. Seeing understanding flash in her cinnamon-coloured eyes, he gave a small sigh of relief.

“Granger’s your sister, Potter?!” Malfoy asked with a stunned voice. Harry and Hermione each gave him a patronizing look, before Harry answered him.

Adopted sister, Malfoy. We adopted each other at the beginning of last year. Not that it’s anybody’s business what we do.”

“That is where you are wrong, Mr Potter. We have every right to find out what you are up to in case it will be damaging to this House or the students in it. I have that right because I am the Head of House, and Draco, Blaise and Pansy because they are Prefects of this House.” Snape said.

“Actually, I’m Head Boy this year.” Malfoy sneered. Harry just raised his left eyebrow and proceeded in giving them a look that said you are way, way beneath me, and I don’t have to tell you a thing.

“Oh, well, that’s just perfect! Could this get any worse? Never mind, of course it can…” Hermione grumbled while crossing her arms over her chest and scowling at him.

“What’s it to you, Granger?”

“I happen to be Head Girl this year, Malfoy.”

“Typical. Well, I can’t say that I’m surprised. After all, up until tonight you were the Headmaster’s perfect little Gryffindor.”

“Let’s not even go there tonight, shall we? Mione, let’s go to our dorm, we need to talk.” Taking Hermione’s hand, Harry turned around and headed for the tapestry of the Basilisk, where he hissed the password and dragged Hermione through the tapestry, leaving four very stunned Slytherins behind.

“Is he supposed to be able to do that, Professor?” Pansy asked with a small voice, the four of them still staring at the tapestry where Harry Potter and Hermione Granger had just disappeared.

“No…he isn’t, but then again, when have the laws of magic or even physics for that matter, made any difference to what the Golden Boy has been able to do? For Salazar’s sake – he defeated the most powerful Dark Lord to live in almost a century by strangling him.” The Silver Trio struggled to make sense of that revelation, it had not been made public just how Harry Potter had defeated the Dark Lord, only that he had.

“So…what are we going to do?”

“What do you mean, Draco?”

“I mean about the fact that Potter reacted the way he did. No way did he hurt his back this morning, he’s always been crap at lying.” Draco said, with a slight sneer to his voice.

“True…but if that isn’t what happened, then…no, it can’t be. They would never do that, the old man would not allow it. Would he?” Snape mumbled to himself while he stared at the tapestry with the Basilisk contemplating his own words. He didn’t seem aware of the fact that his students were looking at him with eager faces. Finally, Draco broke the silence.

“Well?”

“Hm? Oh, I was just thinking that if Potter didn’t hurt his back this morning – which isn’t very likely – then he would have had to hurt it some other way, no? Maybe, he was supposed to be in Slytherin because he was abused? But surely, the Headmaster wouldn’t let his precious Golden Boy be subject to such treatment? After all, we were told that he was treated like a king by his family.”

“Golden Boy, abused? You’re right, it’s not possible. Probably someone just finally gave him what he deserves and beat him up. That should take care of his huge ego.” Draco laughed cruelly at his last comment.

After dragging Hermione through the tapestry, both Harry and Hermione came to a stunned stop as they entered what appeared to be their private common room. The walls were painted a tasteful forest green, with white ceiling and light wooden flooring. A large fireplace took up one wall, and a round coffee-table stood in front of it. Round the table stood two large chairs and a sofa in cream coloured leather, and on the opposite side of the room were two desks in light birch tree, each with a plush looking chair.

There was a staircase leading up to the bedrooms, and Harry and Hermione hurried up it to see their new rooms. On the right was a door with a beautiful unicorn carved in to it, and to the left was a door with a dragon carved into it. It was clear that the door with the unicorn led to Hermione’s room, and the door with the dragon led to Harry’s room. Hermione opened her door first, and gasped at what she saw.

“Oh, Harry, it’s beautiful!”

And it was.
The walls were a pale silver colour, the ceiling was the palest blue imaginable, and a cream coloured rug lay on the wooden floor. In the middle of the room a huge four-poster bed with blue hangings and bed-spread stood. There was an on-suite bathroom done in gold and silver with a shower big enough for three people, a huge tub, a toilet and a sink. In the walk-in closet there was even a dressing table where Hermione could lay out the silver brushes she had inherited from her grandmother, and all her different grooming articles.

“Yeah, it’s absolutely lovely, Mione. It’s just the kind of room I can see you in, I wonder what my room looks like?”

“Well, there’s a simple way to finding that out, Harry, just open the door and let’s have a look!” Doing as he was told, Harry stepped out of Hermione’s room and walked up to his own door and opened it.

The walls were an almost black emerald colour, with a dark blue ceiling and a black rug on the floor. The king size four-poster bed had emerald green hangings and bed-spread, and it looked as soft as a dream. His on-suite bathroom had the same as Hermione’s, except it was done in green and gold instead of gold and silver. Even he had a walk-in closet that was as large as his bedroom at Privet Drive, which was a good thing, if he was ever going to fit all of his new clothes in there.

“Well…it’s a good thing we got as large a closets as we did, isn’t it? You at least went a little crazy with all the shopping you did before school started, Mione.”

“Well, I’m not the only one. And besides, it just felt so good having money of my own for once, you know?”

“Yeah, I know.”

Pause.

“So…I’m waiting.”

“Waiting for what?” Harry said, trying to sound innocent and failing miserably. Hermione glared at him.

“Harry James Potter! You tell me this instance what was going on out there in the common room, and you better not try and lie to me again.” She glared at him as he sighed and made his way to sit down on his bed. He gave another deep sigh before meeting her eye.
His eyes were shining with tears and despair. And behind that was shame and hurt and…fear.

“Harry…? What’s happened to you?”

“I…I’ve been through so much, Mione. I’m completely screwed up. Some of the things he did to me…no one is supposed to have to deal with that sort of thing.” A single tear made its way down his cheek, but Harry didn’t seem to notice. His eyes were glazed over and he got a look of fear and deep pain on his face.

“Harry?”

He didn’t seem to hear her as he kept staring at the wall ahead of him. Suddenly he flinched and threw himself off the bed, only to curl in to a ball and start shaking.

“Harry? Harry, please tell me what’s wrong. Harry!” Hermione was absolutely terrified as her brother started whimpering while clutching his hands over his head to protect it from the invisible blows he seemed to feel. Deciding that this was out of her hands and that she needed help, she rushed to the tapestry while shouting to Harry that she would be back soon.

Out in the Slytherin common room, everyone got quite the shock when Hermione Granger suddenly burst through one of the tapestries with tears running down her face.

“Miss Granger?” Snape asked the obviously distressed girl. The second he addressed her, her cinnamon-coloured eyes locked with his black ones.

“Professor Snape, you have to help…you have to come with me, please.” She rushed forward and grasped his arm, dragging him towards the tapestry.

“Unhand me this instant, Miss Granger! Draco!” Snape started struggling, but she was definitely a lot stronger than she looked, as she managed to drag not only him, but also Draco through the tapestry after mumbling the password to quietly for them to hear.
As soon as they were through, they could hear shouts and whimpering coming from one of the bedrooms. Hermione took off running, and Snape and Draco shared a look before rushing after her.

The sight that greeted them when they reached the doorframe was one that neither will ever forget.
