for Missa
Hi everyone!! More beta'd chapters! See how devoted I am to this fic?? huh? huh? Yeah, I thought so! *muah*
“What the bloody hell was that in there then!” Ron demanded of Sirius. It was the next morning. Harry and Draco had both been carried to their room’s unconscious the morning before. Neither had stirred the entire day. Despite the mornings interruptions Hizen had insisted they continue with their studies. Which meant this was the first free moment he and Hermione had, had to question Sirius and Snape.
The fact that Ron was the one asking the questions instead of the ever pertinent Miss Granger was a rather nice change in Snape’s opinion. However Weasley’s bedside brashness had not seemed to mellow with age, to the contrary it appeared to have gotten worse. He stood their body braced as if preparing for battle, Snape fought back a snort of disdain it was as if the foolish boy expected the big bad death eater to eat him if he wasn’t wary.
“You know about the prophecy you’ve been filled in haven’t you?” Sirius responded carefully to Weasley’s tone. The young man gave a curt nod waving impatiently for Black to continue. “Well theirs a reason Hizen and the other masters have had you study up on the Fae and battling with wizard swords. Harry and Draco are Fae, Draco much stronger then Harry at this point so at this time his powers are dominant. We don’t as yet know what it is but something about Draco triggers Harry’s powers into working.”
This received a look of understanding from Granger and a look of dense puzzlement from Weasley, nothing had changed there Snape sneered.
“You might have to speak plainer Black. Young Mr. Weasley appears to be as dense as ever,” Snape chuckled to himself over that clever statement. There was a time when Weasley would have flushed red and stared at his shoes when his intelligence was slandered. But this wasn’t school and he was no longer Ron’s professor and Ron was no longer a child. He turned looking Snape right in the eye; the heat in those eyes could have melted ice as he bit out rather forcefully.
“Oh I got him alright, and I don’t need any help from you Snape,” turning towards Sirius he said. “If Harry and Malfoy are Fae how come they never showed any signs before? You are Fae to because it’s the only reason I can think of for you standing here, but I’ve seen you display unexplainable feats of magic. When the order used your house for the base that summer I saw you wave your hand and move a cupboard once. Harry’s never done any of that.”
Snape blinked at Weasley then glanced at Granger. She seemed not at all surprised that Weasley had put instances together and was using reasoning. She seemed almost in awe of him and a little sad if that slight frown on her lips meant anything.
“She’s too young for you Snivels, god forbid you turn into a dirty old man”
“Jealous Black? And stay out of my head for the last time, Black!”
“Of Hermione? She couldn’t handle you if she tried!”
“Back in school she had a lot of spirit, you never know with young women.”
“Well she seems to have lost some, where Ron seems to have gained some. Those two have issues of their own to work out. So keep your dirty hands off, eh, Snively.” Snape chuckled, and wasn’t surprised to find Granger and Weasley staring at the two of them in puzzlement. Sirius cleared his throat fighting back a grin as he answered Ron’s question.
“There were signs on Draco; they’ve been well hidden since his birth, charms and spells to hide his Dragon mark and to hold off the intensity of his fire for as long as possible. We didn’t have to worry about that for Harry because he’s earth Fae and they’re different as you know. The magic is repressive in humans; most humans if they have Earth Fae blood will never even know it. They’ll have talents but nothing that wont be seen as just that, a talent.”
Ron nodded and Hermione asked suddenly understanding “Like Harry’s flying and his skills in defense. Unfortunately to defeat Voldemort, Harry will need his power at full strength and that’s where the prophecy comes in. Dragon’s Fire is the key to waking all Harry’s repressed magic and we got an example of that right away didn’t we.” When Sirius nodded in affirmative she beamed, Snape rolled his eyes. Granger appeared to be regaining some of her confidence.
“So how does it work, do they have to be touching because things didn’t get weird till the touched or was it the extreme state of rage he was in or was it…?”
“HERMIONE!” Ron squawked in agitation, she blanched and fell silent. Interesting Snape thought. She tossed Ron a searching glance and started again but slower.
“Why didn’t you tell anyone you where alive, Sirius?”
There was absolute silence, Snape knew exactly what that question meant, what she had really asked was what was on everyone’s mind. Why had he when he was reborn stayed with him instead of going to Harry or another order member? Weasley looked angry now as if Sirius had some how betrayed there trust by landing on Snape’s doorstep and not coming to them. Granger looked rather reproachful. He glanced at Sirius he looked rather chagrined himself. Snape felt rage begin to simmer in his belly.
“Well… the thing about the rebirth was I couldn’t choose where I ended up. I was lucky it wasn’t somewhere in Tibet ! My two bodies grow and correspond differently with each other they’ve sort of melded. While a puppy I wasn’t strong enough to become a man so I could not very well tell anyone I was alive. I was being fed and cared for and my mind set was that of a puppy. What did I care about Death Eaters and Orders?”
Sirius grinned ruefully. “I just wanted to play fetch and chew on slippers. The older I got the more of the old me I got back. I contacted the Order about a year ago. By then Harry had already grieved for me and things where already in motion. They knew about the prophecy of course so my assignment was to watch over Draco. They didn’t see a point in telling Harry I was alive. It would be a distraction at that time he was still destroying Horcruxes”
Ron and Hermione, nodded seeming to accept this. Snape glared at Sirius.
“Don’t look at me like that Master.”
“Don’t master me Black! Was that all it was then, orders and forgetfulness. What about always wanting me, and tired of fighting against it, huh! So much for all your sweet words they where just lies, playing me on where you, Black?”
“There not ready for the truth, Harry….”
“SAVE IT! You know exactly what you’re afraid of; your precious little godson won’t be so loving if he finds out your dirty little secrets now will he.” Snape shouted, not realizing he had said that aloud. He was so bloody angry it was seething and rolling inside of him. Sirius was ashamed of him, of what they had started and of course he would be. He had actually started to believe all those pretty words Sirius spouted when they slept together, he was such a damn fool.
“It’s not like that at all Master, please just let it be for now,” Sirius pleaded, Snape refused to be touched by those shining eyes of his or the way he bowed his head in puppy like chagrin. Christ if Black still had his tail he could just see it lagging on the floor with those puppy eyes glistening tearful at him. What the hell had gotten into him lately; this was Black! When it came down to it he would always choose them, it had always been them first and Snape last. It shouldn’t hurt like this, he shouldn’t care.
“Sure it isn’t,” He sneered and swept from the room before he made an even bigger fool of himself.
Sirius stared after him a low whine wanting to break past his lips. What was wrong with him, things had been so good between them for awhile he had known coming here wouldn’t be easy but he had thought he could handle it. Was he really ashamed of his feelings? Did some of his old Griffendor pride demand that he not admit to anyone that instead of cursing Snape all he wanted to do was…he flushed well a lot of things. He had hurt Severus the last thing he had intended to do. Was he right?
“Tell me that that look is some sort of doggy attachment you’re trying to get rid of. Because that’s the only way Harry’s ever going to forgive you Sirius!” Ron’s warning was conformation enough. He was afraid, he really was.
----Next room over----next room over----next room over---- next room over---next room--.
Draco woke to blinding light hitting his eyelids. He jerked them open then immediately shut them letting out a moan of frustration. He was going to slay fucking Potter if it killed him. The jackass had nearly chocked him to death. He hoped it took Potter a month to recover from the burns he had given him. He felt a start of fear, the last thing he remembered clearly was setting Harry on fire in an effort to save himself. What if Potter had died burned alive just like Alex? He told himself this rending sense of loss in his system was because Potter reminded him of what he had already lost.
“You want to open your eyes Malfoy! Give me one good reason I shouldn’t stick my sword in you right now!”
The sound of Harry’s voice sent Draco’s eyes shooting open and Him nearly flying off the bed. He gaped at him in amazement. Draco’s own skin was never scared from the fire, the exact opposite happened actually. He always came away skin smoother and whiter then ever. Harry looked about as healthy as Draco had ever seen him, certainly better then that fading grey shape that had been sitting there when he had first entered the hall.
He looked worlds different now, his skin was pear white contrasting sharply and rather nicely with that raven hair of his. Potters eyes where two emeralds glaring and glittering down at him, Christ those eyes could slay nations if Potter used them right. There was a faint glow to his skin as if magic had seeped into it or someone had sprinkled him with fairy dust.
He was still dressed all in black, but it no longer looked like a shroud. Before he had looked like some fading mist not here in the world too much longer, and his cloths where simply there to hold him in. He looked solid and lethal now, that might be because he gripped a rather nasty looking blade in his hands and had it pressed to Draco’s bare chest.
“Because it wouldn’t do you any good, and you need me” Draco replied acidly. Potter always had been an idiot. Why would you kill the tool you needed most, even if you didn’t particularly like it. Like was the farthest thing from Potters mind, it looked like finishing what he’d started was. That’s when it fully hit Draco, Potter had not only survived his fire unscathed but he appeared better for it!
“It didn’t burn you!” He gapped in shock. Potter smirked, that smirk of his could get annoying real fast. How would Potter like it if he smashed his face one, he wouldn’t be smirking so much then would he?
“Course it didn’t, pretty weak magic there Malfoy. Looks like you’re loosing your touch”, Potter sneered down at him. Draco felt his anger rise, he glanced at Harry’s sword and smiled as it burst into flames and Harry yelped in shock dropping it. Draco swung up from the bed and pushed the darker haired man backwards.
“Try anything like you did yesterday and I’ll kill you Potter” He warned, those eyes of Potters where glittering up at him. There was rage there he noticed but no more coldness. That cold lifeless stare of yesterday had melted in his fire and brought some life back into Harry. And this was how Potter repaid him! He must have been out of his mind to come here.
“Come get me then, I promised I’d kill you and Snape if I ever saw you again! Don’t think I’ve forgotten it.” Harry spat venomously. His hands were balling into fists and he looked ready to kill. The air was charged with energy, the energy that had been between them since their youth driving them to harm each other in frustration, it was charged it was heady and Draco felt near to bursting with it, he always did. Only this time it was laced with something else, there was another element to the heat between them. Had it always been there undeveloped waiting to be charged? What the hell was wrong with him! This was Potter; Potter the only thing he was good for was a good smashing.
“Well you can’t kill me now, you heard everyone there’s that stupid prophecy and since you’re a good boy, you’ll follow it wont you. And to do that; you need me.” Draco sneered. Potter’s eyes grew a notch hotter with that inner heat of his. Draco felt himself sliding into them they where mesmerizing they called to something elemental in him. He was really going to hit Potter he really was.
“Yeah, that’s exactly my reaction! I find out that Dumbledore kept the truth from me that my own godfather has been lying to me and my reaction is to feel like falling into their plans perfectly, you have always been fucked in the head Malfoy but even you cant be that dense” Potter snapped back. Oh yes that charge in the air had turned into a virtual lightning storm and they where ready to tear into each other. His body was humming his skin itched to release! He could feel it the rustling of wings the heat of fire. The dragon in him wanted release and if Potter wasn’t careful he was going to get burned.
“Then you can be reasonable, tell the Order where they can stick it and give up this insane notion you have of taking down the dark lord. So I can go home and we’ll all get on with our lives.” He was relived that Potter seemed to have finally gotten his head out of the sand. He’d spoken too soon.
“Never mind, you’re as dense as a rock! He killed my parents! He killed the only woman I’ve ever loved and you expect me to just forget!” Potters anger at that moment was nothing compared to what Draco felt hearing those words.
He didn’t understand why his fangs wanted to burst forth and his talons wanted to thrust forward and tear into something. He wanted to roast the entire room slash it to pieces. He wanted to lance out at Potter force him to take it back. He didn’t understand it, Potter had always been the world’s biggest moron and the fact that he hadn’t changed shouldn’t enrage him. Something in Draco had stirred yesterday, woken and demanded something that Draco neither knew what nor was willing to give.
“Get. Out. Now.” He seethed.
Draco’s electric blue eyes, normally charged where blazing now. There was something moving in them something alive. There was a faint roaring in the back of his head as Harry stared at him; he was going to do murder.
Harry stood staring at the blonde in wonder, whatever power Draco had it was far stronger then his own. There was something so dominant about Draco now, he reminded Harry of the Horntail he had once battled. His hair was molten sunlight actually glowing with the charge of magic, Harry’s fingers twitched. What would it be like to touch, to taste such power? Right now it looked as if it would devour him and despite what Malfoy seemed to think he wasn’t a fool. He knew when to cut his losses.
As Harry shut the door Draco fell back on his bed, body seething with energy his Dragon nature demanding he…
That he what? Eat Potter, because that’s what he had felt like doing. He felt like sinking his fangs into Potter as deep as they would go for daring to say that to him. For daring to call what he had shared with the Weasley whore love! If Potter was going to defeat Voldemort for her then he was having no fucking part. He lay there trembling with suppressed energy and rage. A hiss came from the bed rail where Slyfer was perched.
“Some Dragon you make Draco. You found your mate what the hell are you waiting for? It isn’t healthy you’ll explode and you’ll both get burned.”
“Potter! Are you out of your mind?”
“Oh please, tell me you didn’t miss all that sexual tension leaking from the two of you! It was flooding the room so bad I could barely breathe. And I can hear you roaring from a mile away. Your Dragon seeker Draco, your more Dragon then man and we Dragons are dominating creatures. You can’t stand that he loved anyone but you first and you wanted to assert your dominance, as well you should have done. Your human code of honor is ridiculous! Take him! He’s yours to take, your only hurting yourselves by denying it.”
So that’s what the dragon in him wanted, it wanted Potter. No doubt because it knew he was strong enough and was desperate for a mate. Well he was more man then beast and he sure as hell wouldn’t touch Potter if it killed him. Which judging by the tremors going through his body and the ever present desire to pound into Potter so hard he saw stars, he was sure fighting it was going to. Sly hissed in disdain rustling nearly grown wings in disgust.
