Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Returning To Dev
A/N: hey guys, sorry for such a long wait -.-;;;;;;;;;;;; I could give you a ton of excuses not the least of which would be insomnia, theta brain waves, writer’s block, Disgaea 2, Forensics 101 and last but not least extreme exhaustion. But I guess the more pressing matter is…well…I’m really, really, REALLY, really, sorry about the shortness of this chapter but I’ll try to get the next chapter up this weekend (promise).
Chapter 7: Returning To Dev
He waited until Snape’s class ended before entering the classroom.
“Mr. Potter,” Severus said evenly.
Harry motioned towards the door and Viktor, who had opted to hang around, closed it.
“What happened to Draco while I was gone,” Harry asked, his patience a thing of the past.
“Would you care to be a bit more specific?” Severus asked as he settled into his chair, his cool obsidian eyes holding Harry’s gaze.
“At the beginning of second year he came back beaten. He’s been beaten before, by his father. Was this going on while I was gone?” Harry asked.
Severus sighed, his fingers interlacing as his gaze shifted as though he were staring into something beyond sight.
“Yes,” Snape finally said. “Lucius believes in enforcing what he teaches.”
Harry closed his eyes, trying to restrain the sudden, almost overpowering, urge to destroy something living. “Where is he now?” he asked, his voice quite.
Snape straightened in his seat, his eyes focusing. “You cannot kill Lucius Malfoy,” he said.
“Watch me,” Harry growled. He didn’t give a shit about repercussions, not anymore. Once, in what seemed a different life, it had been important to consider every move he made. But now it seemed as though repercussions were futile to control, all that mattered was love and blood.
“And what would you tell Draco?” Severus asked his tone harsh. “You have been gone to long to take actions that may end in misunderstanding.”
“No,” Harry said coldly, “I’ve been gone just long enough that whatever I do can be considered an act of evil. Doesn’t mater what I do, really. Now tell me where the man is.”
“Dev!” Severus said. The use of the name made Harry look at him, really look at him. Severus seemed almost frightened now. “Killing Lucius…it would be to soon. Gods know I’d love to slaughter the man myself…however it is to soon. I’ve told you already, the only thing you can do right now is speak with Draco.”
Harry shook his head. Severus wasn’t comprehending him. “You don’t understand,” he said, he could feel Viktor move towards him but held a hand up to stop the man. “I am not a nice person. I never have been. Do you think that the year I was gone I was rehabilitated from evil? That I am now sugar plums and ice mice? I am Devastation, I am Ruin. When all is said and done I am a murderer, through and through. I’ve had enough with these games. Tell me where he is, Severus.”
Severus only shook his head and the fear that Harry had glimpsed moments before was now plastered across the man’s face, like a cracked mask of mud.
“Then I will find him myself,” Harry said. He turned, ready to leave but rethought the action. “Severus,” he said slowly, “I came back to fix what I had done. So far all I have managed to do is rekindle old trusts. I am not a trusting person. I think, perhaps, that it would be best if I reminded the people I care about just why it is they once trusted me…”
