The Truth

Chapter 7 The Truth

When Draco got home from work that day Hermione was in his flat waiting for him. She had spent the previous two hours slaving over his stove determined to make him a wonderful meal sans magic. He looked at the table to see that she had made what looked to be a wonderful shephard's pie, though what had really caught his attention were the desserts she had made; there was a shortcake with strawberries, a pudding pie, and dozens of peanut butter cookies.

He gave her a questioning look, to which she replied that she wanted to leave him with enough sweets to last a couple of days, as she had learned that he had a sweet tooth with a fondness for these particular items. Plus, she intended on using some of the strawberries and whipped cream for other purposes. She had a particularly mischievious glint to her eyes when she spoke the last sentance.

They barely made it through dinner before he had levitated all the food to the counter and had her naked on the table screaming from beneath him.

The next morning she once again refused to let him call out of work. She needed to clear her mind and make a few decisions. She had come to terms with the fact that she was falling in love with Jared but she though he deserved to know the truth. She just couldn't bring herself to say it to his face; she didn't want to see the betrayal that was sure to be in his eyes knowing that she had lied to him for the past month. In the end she decided to write him a letter. It was very straightforward and took a long time to decide what to write for so few words but once the words started she poured out her soul to him, letting the letters fall where they may to make up the sentances and the paragraphs until the page was filled.

Dear Jared,
I have written this letter to tell you that I won't be coming back to Boston. I have fallen in love with you, and it is something that I just can't let happen. I told you about Aaron but I failed to mention the majority of my life. Like the fact that I was to be married ten years ago this week but Death Eaters crashed my wedding and killed one of my best friends while sending my fiancee to St. Mungo's with a permanently addled brain. Or the fact that it took many years to be able to love again and then Aaron went and did what he did and I ran away. While I have told you most of that story, I left out the most important details. I don't think that I can really trust another man with my heart yet, especially since I haven't been honest with you myself. You know that I am a freelance potionsmistress, but I didn't tell you that my specialty is potions that are used instead of glamours.

The entire time you have known me you have known what I really look like. Or my real name for that matter. When I ran I wanted to be someone else, someone different and by the time I started having true feelings for you I knew it was too late to tell you the truth, but here it is. My name is Hermione Granger. My first fiancee was named Ron Weasley and our friend who was killed at out wedding was Harry Potter. This reunion I am going to is for those students in the years surrounding mine from Hogwarts so we can remember our friends and catch up with our lives. The war connected us and tore us apart at the same time and none of us were ever the same though I'm sure that is something you understand.

Please don't hate me.

With all my love,
Hermione Granger (Aurora Bennett)

She hid the letter away in one of her bags, tears falling from her eyes. She then went and took a nice bath while she waited for Jared to come home so she could spend her last night with him.

When Thursday came, Hermione went to visit Draco at work before she left with just the two bags she had upon arriving after leaving the letter on his kitchen table. His co-workers had noticed he'd been in a bad mood the past couple of days but they didn't know why as he wouldn't talk about it. After they saw his girlfriend come in with her bags in tow and then go to the portkey office after visiting him, they knew he would be in a bad mood for a while.
