At breakfast Dumbledore announced that on Halloween after the feast would be a dance for everyone. The hall erupted with excited whispering as they talked about what they would wear and who they wanted to go with. Harry and Hermione shared a nervous glance before continuing to eat their breakfast.
Soon Halloween arrived and Harry had eventually gathered up the courage to ask Pansy to the ball while Hermione had accepted an invitation from Seamus to go as friends as not many people knew that Seamus was involved with Dean.
They arrived at the ball that night, Draco was standing with his date Pansy talking when Hermione entered. Dracos breath caught in his throat as he watched her enter on Seamus' arm with a twinge of jealousy but let it go as he took in her beauty. Hermione was wearing a long pale blue strapless gown that hugged her in all the right places, her hair fell in elegant curls down her back and she only wore the slightest bit of make up looking completely natural.
Hermione was smiling brightly as she entered with Seamus though she wished to herself that it had been Draco instead. She looked around the room at everyone dancing and her eyes fell upon Dracos as he stood beside Pansy, their eyes met and she gave him a smile and continued into the room.
"Hermione, care for a dance?" Seamus asked politely.
"That would be wonderful. Thank you," Hermione replied and took his arm and was led out into the dance floor.
They danced together though not a close dance it made Draco feel jealous and wish it was him instead.
The night passed slowly with various people asking Hermione to dance which she always accepted.
Finally tired she decided to take a break and went out onto the balcony where she found herself alone. It was a warm night so she was not cold. Leaning on the rail watching the stars she smiled to herself wondering what Draco was doing. She felt rather than heard his approach. Draco leaned on the rail beside her and looked out over the lake which held the reflection of the moon.
"How's your night going?" Draco asked quietly.
"Really good, it's so much fun, isn't it?" Hermione asked smiling.
"Yeah it is," Draco replied.
"Draco we need to talk," Hermione stated suddenly.
Draco nodded and looked at her waiting for her to begin.
"I want to apologise," Hermione stated quietly.
"For what?" Draco asked.
"For me being who I am. I don't want you to hate me Draco, I don't but I've realised that I'm in love with you and I know you won't want to be near me because I'm just a stupid fucking mudblood and this is so not going like I planned," Hermione stated as tears began falling down her cheeks.
Draco seemed to come out of shock from her outburst and pulled her to him, holding her close.
"Shush, you are not a mudblood, you are an intelligent, caring, wonderful girl... woman," Draco whispered in her ear.
The music from a slow song drifted out onto the balcony and Draco pulled her into the centre of the balcony and they began swaying gently to the rhythm of the music.
"I love you too," Draco whispered as they danced.
Hermione glanced up and their eyes met. Draco leaned down and claimed her lips in a soft romantic kiss.
