Chapter 7

The next day all Harry could think about was his upcoming Mas lesson.
Hermione tried to quench his enthusiasm by telling him about all the theory he had
to learn before he could really start playing his instrument.

But the Gryffindor truly didn’t care.

He would be allowed to play again, that was all that mattered to him.
That, and seeing a certain Slytherin that he hadn’t been able to see at all that day.
The only other lesson he had with the Slytherins was Advanced Potions and that only took
place on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Somebody had obviously realized that having too many Gryffindors and Slytherins in one
room led to a catastrophe.

Harry could not believe how incomplete his day felt without at least one verbal argument
with the smaller boy.
Finally, after two hours of intensive fidgeting while Binns went on and on about some
Troll tribes fighting against each other, over .. sacred skunks???, class was over.

Harry made his way hastily towards the East Tower. He went around a corner only to meet up with none other than Draco Malfoy!
It was no surprise really.

They both had to go to the center of the school before turning towards the eastern part of Hogwarts.
The Slytherin dungeons were in the northern part, while the Gryffindor tower
stood high towards the southern part.
Opponents in all ways, the students always thought.

The two boys stood there, starring at each other, both apparently at a loss of words.
Their relationship had always been defined by hate and anger, as soon as they were forced to be in each others proximity they started to fight.
But now 6 years of behavioral conditioning came to a halt, their relationship had changed yesterday.

Looking at the smaller figure Harry noted the carefully blank face. Draco was obviously unwilling to lead.
Unable to stand the silence any longer, Harry said the first thing that
came into his mind.

“Kochane?”

Something, he really should know better than to do.
He felt himself flush a bit in embarrassment, thankful for his dark complexion which made the whole thing unnoticeable.

Contrary to Draco’s skin.
The pale boy opened his mouth in apparent shock, and pink blush began to spread all over his face.
Harry had never seen the boy blush before yesterday, even when angry he remained ghostly pale.

Well he didn’t mind the change, the boy simply looked adorable like this.
Malfoy closed his mouth and composed himself, putting on his famous trademark
smirk he said snarkily, “Really Potter , I didn’t know you felt that way.”
He turned towards the stairs that would lead them to the Mas room and continued walking. The Gryffindor falling in step beside him.

Feeling slightly uncomfortable he asked, “Just what exactly did I just say Malfoy?”
The smaller boy’s grin was insufferable as always, but somehow Harry didn’t
feel as annoyed as he usually had.

“You shouldn’t use words you don’t know the meaning of, Potter. But wait, that would probably reduce your already pitiful vocabulary to words of single syllables.”

Harry rolled his eyes and replied, “Yeah, yeah whatever. At least people want to hear my one syllable words, while most just try to block out your posh articulation.”
There was a second of silence as they stepped onto the next landing, turning right into a long corridor in which dozens of floating candles spread a warm light.

Then Harry insisted, “Come on, tell me. Pani is calling you that all the time. I take it, it’s Polish?”
Malfoy grinned up at him, which was kinda cute, Harry noted absently.
“Indeed it is.” Nothing more was forthcoming.

Harry sighed as he opened the door to their classroom that was now right in front of them. He stood there, unconsciously waiting for Malfoy to pass him. The blond raised an eyebrow in surprise and a corner of his mouth twitched as if he wanted to smile.

The Gryffindor felt his face grow warmer as the boy passed him in a flare of his robes.
What the hell was he thinking, he admonished himself, holding the door open for the other boy!
As if he was his date, a girl, or whatever.

Harry mentally slapped himself and then walked in after the blond, murmuring, “Anybody ever tell you that you’re an insufferable git?”
Draco stopped just two steps into the room, turning back and looking up at Harry in serious contemplation.

“Yes, there was this one guy, but he suddenly sprouted warts everywhere and never did it gain.”
With a move that was too fast even for Harry’s honed Seeker reflexes Draco pulled his wand and shot “Warticus” at the Gryffindor, before turning and running, laughing all the while.

Harry Potter stood there in shock. His arm slowly lifted and he touches his face in confirmation. Jerking his hand back as it encountered the uneven surface of his skin.

“Malfoy!!!” He shouted out as his shock turned into anger and he sprinted after the blonde who’d run to the other end of the classroom.

But the only thing he caught was a look on the boy’s behind as he whirled around Pani Asia who stood in front of the chairs and tables that were building a half moon around the teacher’s desk.

The woman didn’t seem to be surprised by the way Harry looked and just said in an
amused voice, “Draco the last time you did that I had a huge tentacled museum curator on me. At least this time there will be no ink shot around.”

Harry scowled. “Hiding behind a teacher! How typical for you Malfoy.”
Asia grinned. “Yes Kochane, I’d thought you’d left that behavior behind when you were 5. And really, warts?! You can do better than this, something with more class, maybe snakes on his head?”

Malfoy poked his head around the taller woman’s robes to look at Harry, who’d put his hands over his head, afraid that the boy would follow his teacher’s advice. Then the boy giggled, he actually giggled!

“No Asia, I think the punishment should always fit the culprit.”
Harry’s anger rose. What did he mean, fit the culprit. He had nothing to do with warts! They were ugly disgusting things!!
“Wait you, I’m going to turn you into a…”

He looked into the amused face for inspiration.
Malfoy seemed to have fun, not in his usual mean and scathing way.
It was more of a honest enjoyment. He was relaxed, smiling openly, not malicious.

Harry couldn’t bring himself to say Ferret.
That would turn their game into something ugly. Maybe even bring back the 6 years of animosity they’d just put aside so tentatively.

The Gryffindor smirked, finishing his sentence with: “Kitten.”
Draco’s grin froze, and he scrunched his nose up in a really cute way.
Harry thought that there had to be something seriously wrong with him.
He’d used the term cute in connection with Malfoy for the second time that day.

“Kitten? Are you insane? What do I have to do with Kittens??”
Harry relaxed and smiled devilishly, “Well you’re all fluff and your bite only tickles a bit.
At your heart you’re just like one of those sweet, cuddly kittens.”
The look of outrage, and something else, hidden behind the anger was rather amusing.

The Slytherin didn’t know whether to hex him or what. The laughter of their teacher interrupted their staring contest.
“Ah, Draco the Kitten, what a picture!”
She got herself under control and with a swish of her wand Harry’s warts disappeared.
“Really boys, you’re quite the entertainment.”
