“Mr. Malfoy, Ms. Granger, so glad you could join us today. Since you two seem to have no concept of time you will be partners for the rest of the year.” Snape spoke poignantly. Though he hated to reprimand one of his own house and two of his best students, he had no choice.
Draco and Hermione sat down at one of the empty tables in the middle of the classroom. For the sixteen students who had made it to N.E.W.T. level Potions Snape was just as big of a hard ass as ever. The students copied down the instructions from the board and began gathering ingredients. The young couple worked in comfortable silence through most of the class. When they finished their potion they labeled it and brought it to Snape’s desk.
“Your homework for the week is to find the seven other potions that have the same ingredients you used today. Each one of them has the same fourteen, one of them is different. List all seven their uses and adverse reactions when brewed improperly. Class dismissed.”
Hermione gathered her things and headed towards the door with Harry and Ron. The trio was half way down the hall before Draco caught up to them. “Hermione, do you want to set a prefects meeting for Saturday night? It might be a benefit after we talk to the headmaster in the morning.”
“I think that would be a great idea. We should set it for eight o’clock that way everyone has plenty of time to finish any homework they may have.”
Harry turned and smiled, “Only you would be worried about homework on a Saturday. Furthermore, it may have taken me seven years to figure this out but we don’t go ‘home’ until the summer. We shouldn’t have to finish any assignments until then and turn them in during the first week of classes the next year.”
“Harry I think you may have stumbled on to something there. I’ll bring it up with the headmaster tomorrow morning.” Draco concurred.
“You will do no such thing! That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever come out of your mouth Harry James Potter! And you,” Hermione turned on Draco, “if you even think of breathing a word of the nonsense he just spewed out I will find new and inventive ways to punish you beyond anything you could have ever imagined! And trust me I will know if you have been thinking it.”
Poor Ron stared at the three of them trying so hard not to laugh. Hermione took swift notice and put an end to that. “Ronald, you are the only one making it out of this conversation alive at the moment, laugh and that fact will change quicker then your blush.”
“I’ll see you all in lunch.” Ron mumbled before running down the hall chocking back his laughter.
Draco took Hermione’s face in his hands and kissed her squarely on the mouth. “That is one of the many reasons why I love you. I’ve never in all my life been put so neatly in my place. Let’s go catch up to Ron, I want to watch you rip into him again.”
Draco started toward the Great Hall and Hermione leaned her head on Harry’s shoulder and watch him disappear around the corner. How on earth did her life become so completely out of control? “Harry what am I going to do with him?”
“Whatever it is, it will certainly keep you busy.” Harry chuckled as they made their way to lunch.

The Head Boy and Girl met at 10:58 am on Saturday morning in front of the headmaster’s office.
“Do you have any idea what the password is this year?” Draco asked.
“I have no idea.” The words were barley out of Hermione’s mouth before the staircase sprung to life. They ascended the steps together and entered Professor Dumbledore’s office.
The headmaster was seated behind his desk looking down and some parchment. He gestured absently for them to have a seat. They sat and waited a few more minutes. Once the headmaster was finished reading he looked up at the students and began his meeting.
“I realize that we never really spoke of your relationship in terms of how it would affect the school. Because of that I want to get this discussion on and off the table as quickly as possible. What do you two intend to do about it?”
“Do about what sir?” Hermione asked cautiously. “Are you asking us to keep it a secret or, well, I don’t know what the other option is.”
“That is not what I am asking at all my child. The staff and I had decided when we found out that we would not interfere unless we had to. Unless it was going to affect your heath in someway or the order of the school itself, your relationship to date has done neither. Students in this school do know your past however, and after what happened the other day in the great hall there has been some talk. What I am asking is if you two want to figure yourselves out in a more private manner, with rumors flowing around school, or if you want to find yourselves and you impending relationship on display. If you choose to let the school in on your lives it will quell some of the rumors. The choice is yours, think about that. Now on to bigger and more important things, like the Christmas Ball.”
“Sir, we don’t have a Christmas Ball.” Draco stated still slightly bewildered.
“That’s because you two haven’t planned it yet. This year to help celebrate the defeat of the Dark Lord the staff and I thought it might be beneficial to have a Christmas party. The one from your fourth year was such a hit. It will take place on Christmas Eve night, and we would like you and the prefects to open the dance. All the rest of the details are up to you.”
Hermione’s brain had finally reengaged, “Sir, would you like to be kept in the loop on all of the planning?”
“I think it would be best if until all the bigger decisions were made that I be kept firmly in the loop as you put it. Weekly meetings should be well enough for now. Next order of the day is that today will be the first Hogsmeade visit of the year. I know it is short notice but we will want the heads to be there for this first trip making sure everything goes smoothly. The students will be leaving at one and you will return at six thirty.”
“Will that be all sir?” Hermione asked as she scribbled furiously on a sheet of parchment.
“Yes, I think that will do, the students are being told about the weekend as we speak by their heads of house. Do enjoy your day; I’ll see you both next Saturday morning. The password is Godiva.”
As Hermione and Draco walked down the corridor to their common room as easy silence surrounded them. “The halls are very quite for a Saturday.” Draco spoke breaking the silence.
“Everyone is probably getting ready for the trip. I have to grab a couple things from my room before we head out. Unless you want to go by yourself.” Hermione said hoping that wasn’t the case.
“I’ll wait for you. It occurs to me that I should be courting you.”
“You don’t have to court the inevitable.”
“No, but I should. Let’s make it a date. You know involving food and conversation.”
“You really don’t have to.”
“Did you ever think that maybe I want to? I might even take you shopping. Women love shopping.”
“Yes, we do, but you don’t have to take me shopping or anything.” Hermione blushed. She really was being courted. That was something so new to her.
“Did it ever occur to you I asked because I want to. Maybe I am hoping you will point out something you might want for your birthday. I was invited to this party. I’d hate to show up with out a gift.”
Hermione’s face blushed bright scarlet. “I might be able to pick something out that will win you points with the guest of honor.”
“I was hoping you might.” Draco kissed her gently. “Go get ready; I’ll wait here in the common room for you. We should go down early to help get everyone off on time.”
Hermione gathered her things, sat on her bed and gave a silent scream of joy. She changed into a snug pair of jeans and pale blue tank top and brushed her curls into neat waves. She carefully applied light makeup and added a touch of gloss to her lips. She walked out with a fall jacket over her arm to her destiny.
