Chapter 7
Disclaimer: I do not own any characters from Potterverse and from Dragonlance and surely I don't earn any money from my fan fiction. Of course, if someone wants to give me money, I would not object.
Draco and Hermione apparated to the Diagon Alley. Draco had a glamour charm over his head. Near the Leaky Cauldron in muggle London there was an Internet café, frequently visited by young wizards, especially muggleborns. A muggle keeper of the café thought there is some theater nearby and his guests are actors, because quite often wizards and witches forgot to change their clothes and came here dressed in robes. His second theory was, that they are some Dungeons and Dragons players, because he sometimes saw them pointing their wands to the monitor and threaten to hex it, if the poor monitor didn't show some information. But as long as his customers came and paid (and gave an enormous gratuity and always paid for exploded computers, which happened unusually often), he never asked their eccentric behavior. Or he sent his young and beautiful coworker Katie Bell to take care of them.
Draco gave to Hermione the book Wizarding communities in Europe and showed her there the town his godfather suggested. Hermione found some pages of Brno' s real estates. When the bartender was turned away, she cast a translate spell and together with Draco they started to search. Twice they had to remove the spell, wait for the monitor to become stable again and stop smoking, and then recast the spell. Katie Bell, who graduated Hogwarts two years before, stood behind them with folded hands and threatened them to kick their asses, if they blew the monitor with their spell.
Finally they found a large beautiful villa with a very big garden, costing 14 500 000 CZK. Hermione counted for a while and then told, that it is only 65 000 galleons. Approximately the cost of a two rooms flat on the Diagon Alley. They immediately called the phone number and arranged the viewing of the house in three hours. Then they printed a detailed town plan of Brno, paid and went to a lunch on the Leaky Cauldron.
After the lunch they apparated to Brno. Hermione and Draco roamed the center of the town and they discretely observed the entrance to the local wizarding community with standard "cauldron and wand" sign. Luckily they didn't meet any wizard or witch. Draco was very pleased that almost every young muggle they tried was able to give them the directions or answer their questions in English (although with a very thick accent). Draco went to a bank and picked from one of the Malfoy muggle accounts Czech money. They amused themselves with watching Gypsies on the main station, shouting to one another and pocket-stealing wallets and cell phones from the white muggles.
Then they apparated to the villa with its awaiting owner. After a brief tour Draco agreed to buy it and he paid one tenth of the price (the rest he would pay after the papers would be managed). When the owner went away to manage all the papers, Hermione sat on the couch in the main room and started to read the Wizarding communities. Draco started very detailed inspection of the house. Hermione could hear very disappointed murmurs including words "broken", " blessed house-elves", "stupid muggles", "gonna die", "rubbish", etc. After a quarter of an hour he came back and he wore a totally desperate expression.
"Granger, nothing here is working. Let's buy some different house. At least with a working refrigerator. Here I should die from hunger."
"I though you were hiding in muggle houses with Professor Snape. Just plug in the damned thing. How is it possible you are so incompetent?"
"Save it. We lived in warded Death Eaters hiding places, where all the items were using magic. In refrigerators there was always food. Severus cooked. How can I live without spells?"
Hermione turned her eyes, took his hand and dragged him to the kitchen. Here she took refrigerator' s plug, showed it to Draco and with a dramatic gesture she put it to the wall plug. The refrigerator immediately started to whirr. Draco eyed her cautiously, but nevertheless opened refrigerator' s door and looked inside. Hermione opened the gas faucet, plugged the oven and the dishwasher and returned her attention to Draco.
"See, Granger - still no food! Only the light is on. I told you it' s broken and you did not believe me. We must buy a new one."
"Lesson one: muggles have to buy their food and put it manually into the refrigerator. Lesson two: they cook and wash their dishes. Lesson three: they even wash their clothes. When you cannot use your wand, you need to do everything like a muggle except of apparation and wandless magic, which is untraceable. Now I'm going to inspect the house and I'll make a list of everything we need to buy. Come with me, it would be a good education for you."
Next half an hour they walked through the villa and Hermione explained to Draco how muggles live without any magic. Draco had some suspicions, because his father forced him to take muggle studies in his seventh year, so he knew and could use some muggle devices (for example the Visa card or a gun). Now he realized, that everything is much more complicated than reciting: "television shows moving pictures of muggles". He took the map and on the reverse started to make notes like a good student. After Hermione completed her list, they studied the map, found something called "hypermarket" and apparated near the postern, where no one could see them.
Not that Malfoys are cowards, but inside the hypermarket Draco took Granger' s hand just for a bigger safety. The shop was huge, sterile, all plastic and too crowded. After several moments his curiosity won over his mugglephobia and Hermione had to explain again. Although she has only approximate idea, why someone uses dumbbells or why muggles want to eat "Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc". Hermione enthusiastically attacked book section, but she was very disappointed, because everything was in Czech. Nevertheless she took here a dictionary and Brno' s guide in English. Frowning Draco managed to choose some muggle clothes. Then he went to Hermione, who was searching through the book section.
"Granger, are there any books on household? And a dictionary? And books on cooking and on muggle entertainment and on local restaurants and"¦"
"What about you taking a muggle assistant? She would translate everything for you and she can help you, if we made up some believable story. For example you just escaped a psychic sanatoria. From the babyhood you were holed up here and suddenly, when your 18th birthday hit, your mind almost cleared"¦"
"Not she, I would prefer he. It's quite a good idea. But your story is ridiculous. Let me thing for a while. What about a memory loss after some accident? It's much more preferable for me. Where I could find him?"
"Probably on some newspaper in an advertisement section, prat."
They went through the newspaper section and Hermione had to cast translating charm, because there was nothing in English. After a quarter of an hour they found a suitable advertisement and they contacted the man through Hermione' s cell phone. The man reacted immediately to Draco' s English and after quite a long chat they agreed on a meeting and maybe on employment. Then they finished their shopping, Draco paid with his Visa card and they apparated home.
"Granger, I think you can help me with unpacking this and you can apparate back to Hogwarts. The assistant has to come in two hours."
"Oh, mighty lord Malfoy. I'm so honored I can unpack your things. You are so kind to dismiss your undeserving servant after her work is done."
"Wow, Granger, finally you speak to me as you should all the time. I almost lost my hope you would ever learn that. No, sorry. Can you help me with the unpacking? I'm grateful for your help, really. What do you want as a reward?"
"Nothing. I will help you; don't worry. We are friends, are we? I just expect you will be here, whenever I drop here for a visit or for a holiday. Just be careful and don't use your wand after I left. Are you sure you don't need me anymore?"
"Yes. You can return to your dark mage' s snogging and to your transfiguration books. Thank you."
AN: I'm so glad someone reads my story and someone actually knows, who Raistlin is. But I don't think Raistlin is much OC here. Actually he behaves similar to the Legends. There he manipulated Crysania from the first moment in Astinus' s tower, because he wanted something from her. In this fiction he does the same to Hermione.
