Chapter 6
All too soon for Hermione, the Christmas holidays were upon them. Hermione stood beside Severus in his private lab. Their potion was making some progress.
“Okay, pour in the nightshade.” Severus instructed quietly.
Hermione poured the proper amount of nightshade into the cauldron. The potion hissed and emitted a loud bang and poof of lavender colored smoke.
“Well, we at least have the right color and consistency we predicted.” Hermione said excitedly.
“Yes. If our calculations are right, this potion should weaken Voldemort considerably. Enough for Harry to defeat him once and for all.” Severus replied.
“Now what?” she asked.
“The potion has to simmer while being stirred clockwise 10 times and counter clockwise 10 times twice a day for two weeks.” he answered.
The two sat on the couch in the lab for the first time in two and a half hours. Hermione snuggled into Severus’s arms. Severus kissed the top of her head as she rested it on his chest.
“When are you leaving?” he asked.
“Me and Remus are heading for 12 Grimmwauld Place the day after the holidays start.” she answered sadly.
“Honey, listen to me. I know you want to stay here with me, but you can’t. I can’t and won’t let my vision of you dying happen. I hate this too. Believe me, all I wanted was to spend two weeks alone with you.” Severus said as he turned her to face him.
“Will I see you at all?” Hermione asked hopefully.
“I think I can sneak away for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I’ll leave instructions for Albus and Minerva for the potion.” Severus answered.
Hermione smiled as she snuggled back into his arms.
“I give you my word Hermione, I’ll be there for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I swear.” he whispered.
They sat there on the sofa for an hour. Then they decided to check on the potion once more.
“Everything seems to be going our way.” Severus said happily.
“Yeah. I had better get going. It’s almost midnight and I do have classes tomorrow.” Hermione said.
Severus walked her out of the lab and into the sitting room. He helped her pack up her notes and books, and then walked her to the door. At the door he pulled her into his arms and kissed her.
“I love you. Sweet dreams love.” he said as he wrapped Harry’s invisibility cloak around her shoulders.
“I love you too Severus. I’ll see you tomorrow afternoon in class.” she replied as she exited the room and out into the corridor.
Hermione quickly made her way through the silent castle. Once she was safely in her room, she removed the cloak, stripped off her uniform and slipped on the nightgown Severus had given her the night of the Halloween Ball.
‘I hate being separated from him, but it’s for the best. At least we will have two days. He’s been through so much this year. I hope with this potion we can destroy Voldemort once and for all.’ Hermione thought as she turned out her light and climbed into her bed.
The week flew by quickly. Hermione saw Harry, Ron, Ginny and Jonathon off as they left. She was leaving with Remus the next morning after breakfast.
“Something wrong?” Minerva asked as she and Hermione returned to the castle.
“Just that him and I have to be separated for the holidays.” Hermione answered sadly.
“I know dear. This has to be so hard for you both. But soon you won’t have to hide anymore. Soon you two can be together.” Minerva said gently.
Hermione merely nodded. Minerva knew this was hard for both Hermione and Severus. She knew it was harder for Severus though. For the past few weeks Severus and her had been meeting for tea after dinner. A few times he had voiced his fears of losing Hermione. Minerva knew if anything ever happened to Hermione, Severus would be devastated. She vowed to protect them with her very life if she had to.
Once they reached the castle, Hermione bid Minerva good day and retreated to her room. She made sure everything she needed was packed. As she packed a few last minute things, she spotted a note Severus had slipped into her bag back in October.
Hermione,
I missed the feel of you in my arms. I hope you slept well last night. I did. My dreams were filled of you, me, and a beautiful future together. I love you.
Severus
Hermione smiled as she re-read the note. He had given it to her a week after her nightmares had caused her to call to him. Dinner that night was very subdued. Only the staff and a few students remained. Hermione sat across from Severus so as not to draw attract any attention from Patrick Lensheer who was staying over the holidays.
“When are you leaving Hermione?” Albus asked as they were halfway through dinner.
“Professor Lupin is escorting me to London in the morning.” Hermione answered.
After dinner, Hermione went out to the courtyard. She sat on the edge of the fountain. She stared at her reflection in the icy waters. She was so intent on her reflection, she didn’t even hear Remus approach her.
“You all right Hermione?” Remus asked.
Hermione let out a shrill scream and almost fell into the fountain.
“Don’t do that! You scared me to death!” she cried.
“I’m sorry. I was just asking if you were all right.” Remus chuckled.
“No I’m not all right. I have to leave him here. I hate it.” she answered.
Remus sat beside her and gently put his arm around her shoulders. She rested her head against his shoulder.
“I know this is hard. It’s hard for him too. Minerva told me he’s afraid something will happen to you.” he said.
“I worry about something happening to him as well. I would rather be here, but I promised him I would go with you.” she replied sadly.
Hermione then began to cry. All Remus could do was hold her and gently tell her everything would be all right. An hour later the pair re-entered the castle.
“He did promise to stop by for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.” Hermione said as Remus walked her to her room.
“That’s good. At least you two will be able to spend two days and at least one night together.” Remus replied.
“Yeah. Well, here we are. Thanks for walking me to my room.” Hermione said.
“You’re welcome. I’ll meet you at the front door at 10:30. Is that okay?” he asked.
“That’s fine. I’ll see you then. Good night Remus.” she answered.
Down in the dungeons Severus was pacing his sitting room while Albus tried to calm his nerves.
“Albus, so much could go wrong between here and London.” Severus said.
“My boy, everything will be fine. Remus will be her the whole trip.” Albus said calmly.
“Albus, how can you be so damn calm? The woman I love is about to leave the safety of this castle! If something happens to Remus she’ll be alone!” Severus cried.
“Did you honestly think I was going to let them travel alone? Tonks and Moody will be following them. If anything happens to Remus, they will get Hermione safely to either Grimmwauld Place or back here.” Albus explained.
Severus sank heavily into his arm chair. He then ran his fingers through his hair.
“I can’t shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen. I can’t explain it sir.” Severus said shakily.
“Everything will be fine. Right now, you just focus on the potion and what you are going to get that beautiful young lady for Christmas. Good night Severus.” Albus said as he rose to his feet and left.
That night both Severus and Hermione tossed and turned. Neither wanting the morning to come. After spending three hours trying to sleep, Hermione gave up. She grabbed her dressing gown, put on her slippers, grabbed her wand and left her room. In no time she was standing at Severus’s bedroom door. She could tell from his slight snore he was sound asleep. Quietly she slipped into the room. She stood at his bedside and admired his face from the light of the fire place.
‘He’s so handsome. He means the world to me. I hope the potion we created will bring an end to Voldemort. Then together him and I can move foreword and try to build a future together.’ Hermione thought as she watched her lover sleep before her.
Hermione removed her slippers and dressing gown. She placed her wand beside his on the night stand. Gently she pulled back the sheet and comforter and slowly climbed in beside him. It was then she noticed Severus was completely nude. That gave her an idea. She leaned over his broad bare chest and began to softly kiss her way down his body.
“Mmm. Hermione.” Severus moaned in his sleep.
Hermione smiled as she reached his hardening manhood. Ever so slowly, she lowered her lips over the tip. She felt him twitch and heard his low moan. She quickly gathered more courage as she felt Severus’s fingers tangle in her hair.
“Huh? Hermione, is that really you?” Severus asked huskily as he pulled away the covers.
“Yes. I had to be with you.” Hermione answered as she looked up at him.
Severus pulled her up and captured her lips in a bruising kiss. She startled his waist and quickly removed her gown.
“Did you enjoy what I was doing?” she asked.
“Oh god yes, but I want you now.” he whispered huskily.
“Then take me love.” she replied.
He quickly rolled her over. As they kissed once more he reached down and began to finger her. Hermione moaned and writhed beneath him, When she was ready, he removed his fingers and replaced them with his hardened penis.
“Severus!” she moaned.
“Hermione!” he groaned.
Both remained still, savoring the glorious feel of them becoming one. Hermione began to move her hips against his.
“Anxious are we?” Severus chuckled.
“Oh Severus. Take me. Now. Please.” Hermione pleaded as she moved against him.
Severus needed no further encouragement. He began to move in and out of her. Her moans and cries of ecstasy caused him to become more aggressive.
“Yes! Harder…don’t stop! Please! Don’t stop!” she cried out as she dug her fingernails into his broad shoulders.
“That’s it Hermione! You’re so wet! I’m so close! Come for me. Come on my cock. Oh yes! Hermione!” Severus cried as he exploded deep inside her womb.
“Severus! Yes come deep inside me!” Hermione screamed as she came hard around his throbbing penis.
Severus collapsed on top of her. They lay there gasping for air. Neither capable of speaking. Severus slowly rolled off her and lay beside her.
“That was intense.” she sighed.
“Yes it was. Now, as glad as I am that you came to me, you shouldn’t have.” he whispered.
“I know. I couldn’t help it. I had to spend one more night with you before I left for London.” she replied.
Severus simply gathered her tightly in his arms, did a cleansing spell covered them with the covers. Within minutes both were sound asleep. Before the sun rose Hermione climbed out of Severus’s bed. As he slept she slipped out of his chambers and returned to hers. After she showered and dressed she headed for an early breakfast. There she sound Remus, Albus and Minerva.
“Hermione, you’re up early.” Minerva said.
“I couldn’t sleep. Well, I got a few hours.” Hermione replied.
“Well, since you’re up early, we could leave early if you wish.” Remus suggested.
“Yes. I think that would be best.” she said.
After breakfast Hermione quickly gathered her trunk and met Remus. Before they left she gave Albus a letter for Severus. At 9:00 Severus entered the Great Hall. He was quite surprised to find Hermione gone when awoke. He got an even larger surprise to find both Hermione and Remus gone.
‘Surely they wouldn’t have left already. She would have said good bye before she did.’ he thought as he sat down to eat.
Just as he finished Albus approached him and signaled for Severus to follow him. Within minutes they were in Albus’s office.
“Hermione asked me to give this to you.” Albus said as he handed Severus the letter.
With shaking hands, he opened the letter. It read:
My Dearest Severus
Please forgive me for leaving this way. It just would have been so hard to say good bye. Last night was incredible. I will send word once I am safely at 12 Grimmwauld Place. Plus, we will see each other on Christmas Eve. I love you. Please forgive me for my departure.
Love Always,
Hermione
Severus sat heavily into a chair. After rereading the letter a second time he faced the Headmaster.
“I wish I could have at least seen her off.” Severus said.
“My boy, you’ll find that women are strange creatures. Not even magic can explain why they do some of the things they do. It’s been my experience to just go with the flow.” Albus advised.
“Really?” Severus questioned.
“Of course. Hermione is a bright, strong minded witch. Id she sees something she wants, she goes after it full heartedly. She’s also very loyal to those she loves.” Albus replied.
Severus spent the rest of the day observing the potion. When he wasn’t watching the potion, he was reviewing their notes.
‘So far the potion is doing exactly as we predicted. If this keeps up, we may very well have found a way to kill that bastard.’ he thought as he watched the potion.
At dinner that night a beautiful Eagle owl delivered a note for Severus. He sighed with relief as he read Hermione’s note saying they arrived at the Headquarters safe and sound.
“What’s wrong Hermione? You seem sad.” Sirius asked as he, Hermione, Moody, Tonks and Remus sat down to dinner.
“I just miss Severus. That and I have a bad feeling something is about to happen.” Hermione answered.
“What do you mean bad?” Moody asked as he sniffed at his dinner.
“I don’t know how to explain it. Something in my gut is telling me that something bad is going to happen to Severus.” Hermione explained.
“Don’t worry. He’s safe as long as he’s at Hogwarts or with Albus.” Tonks said gently.
“Tonks is right. Everything will be fine.” Sirius added.
“You guys are right. Severus is fine. It’s probably just my nerves about the potion.” Hermione replied.
The rest of dinner was spent discussing the potion. At the same moment, Albus was watching as Severus stirred the potion.
“So this has to be done twice a day for two weeks?” Albus asked.
“Yes. I stir it at 11 in the morning and 9 at night.” Severus answered.
“How many times and in what direction?” Albus asked.
“10 times in both clockwise and counter clockwise.” Severus replied.
“You and Hermione have done an excellent job. Despite everything that has happened, you two have created this potion.” Albus praised.
“We’re proud of ourselves. Hopefully this potion will help bring Voldemort to his death.” Severus said.
“Well, sleep well Severus. I will see you at breakfast.” Albus said as he left the lab.
Severus merely nodded and continued stirring the potion. After he was done he returned to his sitting room.
“What the hell are you doing here!” Severus cried as he entered the room.
“I’m here to avenge my sister. PERTRIFICUS TOTALUS!” Nicholas cried.
Severus went rigid and fell to the floor. His eyes wide in shock and anger. He watched as his uncle stood over him.
“Time to return you to your master.” Nicholas hissed.
In a flash, Nicholas heaved Severus over his shoulder and headed out of the room. In no time they were outside the gates of the castle. Nicholas dumped Severus to the ground. He then pulled out the mirror.
“Lord Voldemort.” Nicholas said.
“Aahh. Nicholas. Tell me you have good news.” Voldemort replied.
“He’s here. Where do I meet you to deliver him?” Nicholas asked.
“Meet me in the alley where we made our deal.” Voldemort answered.
Nicholas put away the mirror away, took hold of Severus’s robes and apparated away. When they arrived there was Voldemort. Severus’s eyes widened in fear.
‘Oh god! What do I do? Think! I’ve got to get away!’ Severus thought fearfully.
“Hello Severus. Welcome home.” Voldemort said.
“You promise he will pay?” Nicholas asked.
“Yes. Now, for your reward. I have already had 6,000,000 Gallons transferred into your account at Gringott’s.” Voldemort answered.
“Good. Now you’ll get what you deserve my dear nephew.” Nicholas said evilly.
After Nicholas apparated away, Voldemort took hold of Severus. A second later, Severus found himself in some kind of room with stone walls and a stone or concrete floor.
“Finite Incantartum.” Voldemort said.
Severus quickly got to his knees and backed away. He soon found himself up against the cold stone wall. He reached for his wand, only to find it wasn’t there.
‘Damn! It’s in the lab!’ Severus thought angrily.
“Well, well. Severus Snape. Now, tell me where your darling little whore is.” Voldemort said.
Severus remained quiet and turned away. Voldemort slowly walked over to the wizard. He grabbed a handful of hair and forced Severus to face him.
“Tell me where she is!” Voldemort ordered.
“Go to hell.” Severus hissed.
Voldemort’s eyes flashed red in anger. He slammed Severus’s head into the wall and withdrew his wand.
“Very well. CURICO!” Voldemort cried.
Severus crumpled to the floor. Writhing and thrashing in pain. Yet he never et out a cry. At least not out loud.
‘HERMIONE! HELP ME!’ Severus’s mind screamed.
“AAHH! MAKE IT STOP!” Hermione screamed as she thrashed in bed.
“Hermione? What’s wrong?” Sirius cried as he, Remus and Moody burst into her room.
“What the hell? It’s as if she’s under the curtatious curse. But how?” Remus asked.
“Her dream. Wake her up.. Whatever she is seeing is what’s causing this.” Moody answered.
“Hermione! Hermione wake up!” Sirius cried as he shook her.
“NO! SEVERUS!” Hermione screamed.
“Wake up!” Remus cried as he slapped her cheek.
“SEVERUS!” Hermione cried as she jerked awake.
“Hey, hey. It’s all right. Just take a deep breath.” Sirius said gently.
“He’s…he’s got him. You’ve…you’ve got to help him. Please.” she pleaded.
“Who’s got who?” Moody asked.
“Severus! Voldemort’s got Severus! I heard Severus call to me! Begging me to help him!” she answered.
“Hermione, it was just a dream. Severus is safe at Hogwarts.” Remus said.
“No damnit! Severus was somehow taken from Hogwarts! Call Dumbledore! We have to find him!” Hermione screamed.
She grabbed her dressing gown and left the room. The others hurried after her. Once in the kitchen, she immediately called Albus. He answered a second later. She quickly told him what she saw.
“Listen to me. Stay there. I’ll go check on him. I will report back in ten minutes.” Albus instructed.
Albus quickly rushed to the dungeons. He withdrew his wand as he carefully and quietly went into Severus’s chambers. The sitting room was empty.
“Severus? You here?” Albus called as he headed for the lab.
There he found the potion simmering and something very unusual. Severus’s wand. Albus gently picked it up. He checked the bedroom, but his fear was confirmed. Severus was gone. Albus rushed back into the sitting room. Hermione sat holding a hot cup of tea as she, Moody, Sirius and Remus waited. Suddenly the fire came to life. Albus’s head appeared surrounded by flame.
“Was he there?” Hermione asked hopefully.
“No. What’s worse is I found his wand in the lab. Severus Snape doesn’t go far without his wand.” Albus answered.
“We’ve got to find him! Voldemort is torturing him!” Hermione cried as tears fell from her eyes.
“We will find him. I swear. For no, you must remain at headquarters. As for you potion, I will send Minerva there with both yours and his notes and the potion.” Albus said calmly.
Hermione could only nod. Sirius gathered her into his arms.
“Albus, find him. And bring him back safely.” Remus pleaded.
“I’ll do all I can. Moody, go and alert the Order. Tell them to begin searching everywhere for him.” Albus ordered.
A second after Albus’s head disappeared from the flames, Moody rose from his chair. As he pulled on his traveling cloak, he faced Hermione.
“Be strong. If your love is as strong as I think it is, Severus will need your strength as much as his own.” Moody said gently as he patted Hermione’s shoulder.
An hour later Minerva arrived. Remus helped her set up the potion in the lab that Severus used whenever he stayed at Headquarters. Once everything was set up, Minerva went into the kitchen.
“Hermione?” Minerva said.
Hermione looked up. She untangled herself from Sirius and threw herself into Minerva’s arms.
“Sshh. Everything will be all right. We will find him.” Minerva whispered.
“But…but in…what condition?” Hermione sobbed.
“He’ll be fine. Severus is strong. Plus he couldn’t and wouldn’t leave you alone.” Minerva replied softly.
Hermione could only sob into Minerva’s shoulder. Minerva simply held and rocked the distraught young witch. With the help of Sirius, they were able to get her upstairs to her room.
“Poor Hermione.” Minerva whispered once Hermione was asleep.
“I know. You should have seen her. When we burst into her room, I would have sworn someone was using the curico on her. She said that Voldemort was torturing Severus. How could she know that?” Sirius asked.
“It seems that the love she and Severus share isn’t an ordinary love. Their love is what we call Venesian.” Minerva answered.
“No wonder she was reacting that way. She was feeling whatever Voldemort was doing to Severus.” Sirius said.
Meanwhile, Severus collapsed to the stone floor gasping for air.
“Ha! Ha! Ha! Tell me Severus, is your whore worth the pain? Worth dieing for? Huh? Just tell me where she is and the pain ends.” Voldemort laughed.
“No. I’ll…die…first.” Severus gasped.
“Oh you’ll die all right. I’ll give you the rest of the night to rethink your position.” Voldemort said.
With a twirl of his robes Voldemort left. A second later, Lucius, Goyle Sr., Crabbe Sr., and Bellatrix LeStrange entered the cell.
“Hello ’brother’.” Lucius snarled.
Before Severus could even blink the four of them began to physically assault him. Just like with Voldemort, Severus never let a sound escape his lips. An hour later the four left a beaten and bloodied Severus laying on the floor.
“See you tomorrow Severus.” Bellatrix said sweetly as she closed the door behind her.
Severus waited ten minutes, making sure they were really gone. He then broke down. He managed to crawl into a corner. He buried his face in his hand and cried.
‘Oh Merlin. Please, please protect Hermione. Hermione, I’m sorry. I love you. I will always love you.’ he thought as the tears fell.
*Severus? Can you hear me?* Hermione’s voice echoed in his mind.
‘Hermione?’ Severus answered.
*Don’t speak. Save your strength. Dumbledore has the Order searching for you. McGonagall brought the potion here. If you need to, you can draw on my strength. Just hang on. We will find you.* Hermione said.
‘I’ll try. It was Nicholas, my uncle. He sold me to Voldemort.’ Severus said tearfully.
*Sshh. Just rest. I’ll tell Dumbledore. Just hold on and be strong. I love you Severus.* she said as her voice faded.
Severus suddenly felt stronger. Back at 12 Grimmwauld Place, Hermione awoke. She found Albus sitting beside her bed.
“How are you feeling?” he asked gently.
“Okay. I guess. I made contact with Severus. He’s in pain and frightened. We have to find him sir. Please.” Hermione answered.
“I know. We are looking for him. We don’t even know how Severus was taken from the castle.” Albus said.
“It was his Uncle Nicholas. Severus was able to tell me that. Sir, he’s been tortured. We have to get him back. Voldemort will kill him if we don’t.” Hermione pleaded.
“Take it easy. He will be found. Now that I know who took him we‘re that much closer to finding Severus. Now, would you care to join me for a cup of tea, then we‘ll talk about the potion?” Albus asked.
Hermione merely nodded. Albus and Hermione headed down to the kitchen. Hermione started to make the tea. Once it was ready she poured both her and Albus a cup.
“Before Severus was taken he was explaining about the step you two are on in the potion. He said he stirred the potion at 11 in the morning and again at 9 at night.” Albus said.
“Yes. Severus said the potion needs to be stirred twice a day for two weeks. It will simmer as well. I assume he has a record of these things.” Hermione said.
“Of course. You will be able to continue working on the potion won’t you?” Albus asked.
“Yes sir. After all, that potion is our one chance to defeat that blasted Voldemort once and for all.” Hermione answered.
The two finished their tea in silence. Once both were done. Hermione escorted to Albus to the front door.
“Get some rest my dear. Severus will be returned to you safe and sound.” Albus promised.
“Yes sir. Ummm, do Harry, Ron and Ginny know?” Hermione asked.
“No. Arthur and Molly have told them nothing, nor have they asked.” Albus replied.
“Good. Please don’t tell them. They don’t need to know. At least not right now.” Hermione said.
Albus nodded. After he left, Hermione returned to her room. She climbed into bed and instantly fell asleep.
