Chapter 7 - No Rest For the Wicked

Harry stood looking at the door to Dumbledore’s office trying to think what the headmaster could possibly want. He hadn’t broken any rules, yet, this year. Could Tempest have told Dumbledore about the results in the lantern?

Harry sighed, ‘There was only one way to find out.’

Harry lifted his arm and knocked on the door.

“Enter,” came Dumbledore’s voice from within.

Harry opened the door and walked in, looking around he saw that four chairs had been placed in a row in front of Dumbledore’s desk.

“Take a seat Harry,” Dumbledore said standing from his desk, “Lemon Drop?”
“Umm, no thank you,” Harry said sitting down in the chair on the far right, “May I ask why I have been summoned?”
“All things will be known in time. We just need to wait for the remaining participants to….,” Dumbledore began.
“He wasn’t egotistical he just loved to live. You can’t fault anyone if that’s what they want,” Remus’s agitated voice sounded from the other side of the door.
“Unless you over do it and that is what he did. He pushed everyone to their limits,” Severus snide voice came after.
“You’re just quick to lose your temper. No-one else blew up as quickly as you,” Remus retorted.

The argument became louder and quicker while on the other side of the door Harry and Dumbledore sat in the office listening to everything that was said. Every snide remark, every insult that was thrown back and forth.
Dumbledore shook his head and sighed while Harry chuckled. They were acting like children.
Dumbledore got up, walking around his desk and to he door. When Dumbledore opened the door it revealed the two quarreling professors deep in argument.

“If you two are quite finished,” Dumbledore said shaking his head but his were eyes twinkling.
“Sorry,” Remus said sheepishly walking into the office and sitting down next to Harry.

Severus entered the room as well but sat on the far left chair.

“Who else are we waiting for?” Severus asked.
“We’re waiting for…,” Dumbledore said but was interrupted by Tempest bursting through the door out of breath.
“I know I’m late. Sorry, got into a bit of trouble with Firenze. I think I said something that might have insulted him,” Tempest said sitting down in between Remus and Severus.
“Don’t worry about it,” Severus said smirking, “It’s in your genes to do things like that,”
“You can shove it where the sun doesn’t shine Severus,” Remus growled.
“Alright you two that’ll be quite enough of that,” Dumbledore cut in, “Now the reason I called you here is to work out a special training schedule for Harry.”

Remus, Severus and Tempest all raised an eyebrow and Harry looked shocked.

“A training schedule?” Harry enquired.
“Aren’t we going a little overboard,” Remus asked.
“I agree with the werewolf on this. Potter has got enough on his plate. Classes, this new position you’ve placed on him,” Severus said.
“Not to mention he’s Gryffindor’s quidditch captain as well,” Remus said.
“Potter’s Gryffindor’s quidditch captain?” Severus asked.

Tempest nodded her head.

“Why am I not surprised,” Severus sneered.
“Can it Severus,” Remus said, “Doesn’t Harry get a say in this?”
“Look,” Dumbledore said, “The reason I’m doing this is because Harry needs to be prepared and while Tempest is here I thought I’d make use of her special training.”

Severus and Remus looked at Tempest who looked back at them calmly.

“You knew?” Harry asked.
“I thought it might come up sooner or later,” Tempest said levelly.

Harry turned and looked at Tempest who looked Harry in the eye and didn’t blink.

They continued to stare a each other for a minute before Harry said, “What does this schedule entail?”
“First of all you’re to return to Occlumency lessons with Severus, Remus will take you one night of the week to teach you some of the more advanced defenses able to be done in the wizarding world and some that aren’t. Tempest will take you two nights of the week and will teach you a variety of things that I’m unable to go into depth with you at this point,” Dumbledore replied.
Harry nodded and said, “Gryffindor has quidditch practice on Thursdays.”
“I’ll take Potter on Monday’s,” Severus stated.
“How does Wednesday with me sound Harry?” Remus asked.

Harry nodded grinning at Remus.

“Fridays and Saturdays,” Tempest said.
“Well that’s settled then. Harry you’ll report to Severus tonight,” Dumbledore said.
“Eight o’clock, and don‘t be late” Severus said.
Harry nodded, turning to Dumbledore he said, “Is that all you need from me sir?”
“Yes Harry. You may go. Remus, Severus I still need to speak with you if you’d remain?” Dumbledore asked.
“Umm headmaster at dinner could you announce that Gryffindor tryouts are on Thursday?” Harry asked.
“Sure Harry,” Dumbledore said.

Harry and Tempest stood and exited the office.
They walked down the stairs and out into the hall.

“What is it that you’ll be teaching me?” Harry asked.
“Various offensive spells and several things that may come in handy,” Tempest replied, “That’s all. Also if you’re having trouble keeping up with school work and stuff. I’m here to help.”
“Thanks. I may need it. I just find it so irritating that I’m having to do these things. Constant training I mean. I’m a teenager for crying out loud. I should be worrying about pimples and boyfriends and stuff not whether I’m going to defeat Voldermort and live to tell the tale,” Harry ranted.

When he had finished he was breathing hard and had his fists clenched at his sides, his whole body shaking with emotion. A wind was whipping up around them.
Tempest turned to Harry and sighed.

“You finished. Take a deep breath in, count to five and let it out slowly,” Tempest said putting her hands on her hips, “First thing you’re going to learn is to control your temper.”
“I’m sorry,” Harry said sighing, “It’s just that everything just doesn’t seem fair. I mean Remus is suffering because I acted before I really thought things through and it got his lover killed. Sirius didn’t deserve that.”
“Nobody blames you Harry. I don’t. Besides one could lose count of how many times he forgot to think before he acted,” Tempest said smiling.
Harry smiled back but then the smile faded into a confused frown, “What do you mean you don’t blame me?”
“All things come in time,” Tempest said smirking.

To Harry the smirk seemed so familiar somehow but he couldn’t place it.
They stopped at the bottom of the stairs that led to Gryffindor tower.

“Hey do you want a quick lesson now?” Tempest asked.
“What? Here?” Harry asked looking around noticing immediately how open it was.
Tempest rolled her eyes, “Of course not here. In the old dueling classroom.”
“Okay,” Harry nodded.
