Chapter Six
Chapter Six
“Come on Harry, at least come surfing with us. It’s the first sunny day in over a week. The swells are awesome man!” Jericho said through the closed door leading to Harry’s room.
“Nah, I have work to do.” Harry called back from behind the door.
“Alright. I’ll come by later yeah? Jericho asked.
“Sounds good to me.” Harry answered.
The silence was un nerving when Jericho, Cheyeanne and Serena finally left with yelping and barking dogs in tow. Mad Eye whined softly and laid his head down over his already crossed paws. He and Draconis were the only two who had refused to leave Harry’s side for a single moment. Draconis sighed deeply and mimicked Mad Eye by placing his head over crossed paws. Both dogs clearly did not understand why their master was staying inside on such a nice day.
Harry let a soft sigh escape his lungs and, placing the pen down on his desk, leaned back in his chair and stretched. Before he could write another check to pay off a bill, his phone rang shrilly through the quiet house. Harry sighed intent on ignoring it, only to hear it ring three more times. He growled and dropped the pen in irritation. With an aggravated huff, he grabbed the phone off the charger, not even bothering to check his caller I.D.
“Yes?” He asked in a clipped tone.
“Well, someone is in a good mood.” Lakona quipped.
“Sorry…stressed from paying the bills.” Harry answered apologetically.
“Ah. Anyways, just thought you would like to know, Draco may be in a little trouble.” She said before pulling the phone away from her ear.
“WHAT?!” Harry screamed. “What do you mean danger Lakona?” He asked tightly.
“That red head you banned from your house followed us home when we left last week. He keeps messing with Draco in town. He swears that Draco jinxed you or hexed you or made you turn your back on him and that little tramp he’s always with. I just thought you would like to know.” Lakona said slowly. It only took her a minute to realized Harry had already hung up.
*********
“Alright so we’ll see you and Mad Eye in a couple days?” Serena asked.
“Yeah, I’m bringing everyone back with me. Can you guys clean the house and get the rooms ready>“ Harry asked after hugging Cheyeanne.
“Don’t worry. It’ll be done before you can say Draco.” Serena said.
“Draco.” Harry shot back.
“Damn it…alright Mr. Smart Ass…get moving.” Serena said causing them all to laugh.
“Be careful Harry. And give Lakona a hug from all of us when you see her.” Jericho said.
“I will be. I just hope I can hold back from killing the little shit if I see him.” Harry said hugging his cousin.
“Don’t worry. We only answer to ourselves. There is no ministry here to answer to. Just a high council, and they only ever get on us if we show off in front of the hair brained humans without magic. As long as you don’t kill him in front of any of them, you’re going to be fine.” Jericho said with a smirk.
“Yeah…right.” Harry answered, a smirk of his own toying across his lips.
*************
Draco sighed and shut his eyes as he sat in the covered swing on the back porch. He had only been home for a week and already he was irritated. The phone calls he could handle, it was the personal threats at his own front door that had him so annoyed and ready to kill at every waking moment. If it wasn’t for Brye’s constant police threats, he would have done something stupid by now. He knew that as long as Ron wasn’t killed in sight of anyone without magic, he was ok. He definitely liked that law.
Heaving another sigh, Draco opened his eyes. He looked to his left when he felt the weight on the swing shift. He smiled to Brye before closing his eyes again.
“Lakona called him you know.” Brye said.
“I figured she would. She’s worried about me. Even I can tell that much.” Draco answered.
Brye nodded and, along with Draco, looked up when Blaise came storming out the back door and over to them to sit down in the remaining empty space on the swing.
“Do I wanna know?” Draco asked.
“Lakona was telling the whore to leave and she saw me before Lakona could close the door all the way. She dug up a buried past. Now Lakona wants me to talk about it. I really don’t know what to say. So I came out here.” Blaise answered.
“What kind of past was it?” Brye asked.
“One I don’t want to remember. It’s the same one as Draco, he understands.” Blaise answered with closed eyes.
“Blaise and I were Death Eaters in the war.” Brye arched an eyebrow towards Draco, asking him to explain further. Draco’s face turned stony, and extremely solemn.
“Draco and I did a lot of stupid things and Draco was almost killed twice. I never knew that my dad had almost been killed, but when it was over, I knew I had to find my parents and Draco and then get the hell out. I had heard Harry being ordered to kill the remaining Death Eaters, every single one of them. I also heard him refuse. The two idiots that called themselves Harry’s best mates, the ones threatening Draco right now, however, didn’t refuse.” Blaise said sadly.
Draco looked for all the world like he wanted to cry, but his body would not allow such a weakness to be shown. “I lost my family…and my godfather. They were spies, and that damn weasel killed my mother and my godfather without a second thought. He said it was payback for all the years of hell he went thorough with me. When he started to beat the life out of my father, Harry stopped him. He tried to help, and for that he was called a traitor. The damn weasel turned his back on Harry, like a hand swats a fly away.” Draco said, face calm, while balling his hand into a fist.
They never noticed Brye’s shocked face until a red beam of light hit him square in the chest. Without hesitating, Blaise reached into his pocket for his wand and was hit with a stupefy curse as well. Draco sat perfectly still, as years of Death Eater training had taught him, and looked up into the face of one Ron Weasley. He could only smirk.
“So you finally found some balls?” Draco asked sarcastically.
“Pitty Harry’s not here this time isn’t it, Ferret?” Ron asked and smirked as he looked at Draco.
“If you say so.” Draco answered coolly.
“I have always wanted to do this. Adavera-”
It was then that Draco noticed his dog, Lucifer, lying stunned on the ground near the back door. Instantly, rage ran through his blood. He didn’t give Ron a chance to finish his spell. He was already behind him with his wand pointed into his back.
Ron froze as something pointed into his lower back. A harsh jab forced him to lower his wand completely as a dark and terrifying voice whispered in his ear. “Ever wonder how your father died, Ron?”
Ron didn’t even have to turn around to know who was behind him. He could only gulp and look to where the blonde known as Draco Malfoy, had been sitting. He only prayed that Draco would make it fast and painless.
