I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Author needs opinions!
Advice needed!
Hello everyone! I need your opinions.
By now, most folks will have read Book 6 and have probably noticed, as I did, a surprising similarity between the projected plot for book 7 and this story- namely, the presence of objects that contain some of Voldemort’s residual power, objects which Voldemort hid away long ago against some future need and which now must be destroyed to defeat the Dark Lord once and for all. I did NOT expect this to happen and now feel as if I am treading on hallowed ground. I did start to publish this story online well before book 6 came out, and while fanfic is always skating on the edge of impertinence when it comes to the original works, I want to make sure everyone knows I didn’t steal her idea! I also want to be sure everyone is OK with my continuing, as the story in its current form shares some features with the new developments in Book 6 and I don’t want to spoil anyone’s readiness for the seventh book. This next book is the last one, and the plot is honing in on the crux of the matter now; speculation at this point has a far better chance of hitting the mark than in any book prior. Given that I was already having a hard time reading the sixth one without mixing up my world and hers (disturbing and thrilling all at once), I wanted to check the prevailing fanfiction climate.
So I would ask the readers whose encouragement has kept me writing: do you think I should continue? I didn’t expect the similarity between my story and the real one, but given how much they have in common, it’s not entirely unlikely that my story will go where hers does, at least in parts. We do have similar problems to resolve. Granted, we may solve them in vastly different ways, but I do not wish to give offense by presuming to continue when she hasn’t had a chance to present the last book yet. It was her story first, and even if I did come up with this plot on my own, she of course has dibs. So do you want to hear my speculative version, or wait for JKR to write the last book and publish it so you can read it without any further clouding of the issue by my little scribble?
You can leave a review to let me know your thoughts, or email replies to quillusion@yahoo.com. I reactivated the account today- my job relocated to a new building and I haven’t had time for anything but work these past four months, so they had deactivated it. It you sent me email in the last few months, I am sad to say I didn’t get it, and if it’s important, you can resend it now. I am very very sorry for the inconvenience.
In the event that consensus says to soldier on, I do have a couple more chapters in the works; I haven’t posted the next one yet because something is nagging me about the last part of it. I haven’t hashed out what’s wrong, but it’ll come to me. One thing I will say- if the Hope Diamond shows up in the last book, JKR has what Ricky Ricardo would call \"some ‘splainin’ to do\".
Thank you all so much for reviewing and sticking with me! I know the infrequent updates are frustrating, but they aren’t due to lack of interest or desire to write. To those who have expressed the intention not to read any more of the story unless I update more often, I can only say that my muse makes a terrible emotional hostage. She sleeps long hours when she’s stressed. To those who are patient and who encourage her, she offers her bounty. And I do believe she’s stirring a little nowadays.
I’ll check back to see what folks say!
