Frozen Flowers
Nasta watched as Cyneric and Kallan ran around the back garden. It hadn’t snowed, but it was cold enough for ground frost, and his identical twin Faeries were entranced by the ice crystals on everything.
He watched them and smiled as they ran reverent fingers over everything.
Harry had found winter blooming flowers to plant years ago, originally for their Leolin, so that their Faeries had flowers all year round. Kallan was touching a winter honeysuckle, while Cyneric was carefully brushing frost from the winter pansies and mahonias. They had also planted winter clematis, and callicarpa bushes, which grew beautiful purple berries in the winter. Though if it did get too cold then they took their Faerie babies out into the greenhouse instead of the garden. It was mostly Max’s potion ingredients growing inside it, but they had a few ‘emergency’ flowers for the Faeries too.
He walked around a little to keep himself from freezing to death, but the cold never seemed to affect their little Faerie babies, as they ran around and looked at everything, getting a moment in frozen nature.
It was only a moment too, as Nasta saw Harry walk out onto the back decking. He checked his watch, they’d been outside for about eighteen minutes, and he was surprised that Harry had left them out here that long. Nasta figured that one of the kids had kept him busy or distracted inside.
“Come on you lot, inside! You need to warm up.” Harry called out.
Of course the two Faeries refused and started whining, despite that it had been their beloved Ma who had given them the orders.
“I have a surprise waiting inside for you.” Harry said with a secret smile.
Nasta wondered what it was, as Harry hadn’t said anything to him about a surprise, but of course the naturally curious Faeries went running over to Harry to find out what it was.
Nasta followed more sedately, but he jogged up the steps to the porch and then into the kitchen, shutting and locking the door behind him to keep out the cold.
The Faeries were at the kitchen table, and in front of them was a small collection of potted plants. Nasta recognised the classic Christmas flower, poinsettia, and early blooming winter roses, as well as a wrapped up pot that contained a grow-your-own amaryllis. Nasta smiled at Harry, as the Faeries treated the potted plants like some of their children treated their dolls, or baby siblings, fawning over them and touching stems, leaves, petals and even the soil.
“Good call, mama.” Nasta teased.
Harry gave a proud grin back, and put his hands to his hips, watching the two Faeries pet and coo to the early present.
“They needed something to distract them.” Harry insisted. “Hopefully this keeps them in the house a little more too. I don’t like them going out so much in this weather.”
Nasta gave Harry a small touch, and bent to kiss him.
“Just two more weeks until the big day.” He smirked.
“Don’t remind me.” Harry said, heaving a sigh. “I’m going to do some baking with the kids soon. They’ve been pestering me for biscuits and I haven’t even thought of doing them yet!”
“Max is going a little stir crazy being cooped up inside, send him on a shopping trip.” Nasta said.
Harry bit his lip and looked slightly worried.
“He’ll be safe, you know he will.” Nasta said reassuringly.
Harry nodded. “Okay. I’ll write down what I need and send him on a little trip. He has been the most affected by being stuck inside for so long. Going out to work just doesn’t count.”
“He’ll likely pick up some Christmas treats as well. We can have a small break and watch a film.”
That made Harry smile, and he cheered up.
“I’ll go and grab a pen and paper! I’ll add some treats for him to pick up just in case!”
Nasta watched Harry dart off, and he turned back to supervise the twins, but they were entranced with their new gift.
This year had presented a new level of worry for the vulnerable Faeries, but they had been very careful to cast a cleansing charm on themselves every time they entered the house, and they did the same for any kids they’d taken out, as rare as that was, though they were all still in school for the most part even if it was sometimes online.
None of them had gotten sick, and their twins were well protected, but they wouldn’t get complacent. Not with the health of their precious children at stake.

A/N: Day four, and we have something not quite linked to Christmas, but you all love the Faeries so much I could hardly skip out on a little bit of Cyneric and Kallan, and the things the guys have to do to keep them happy and healthy, even in freezing cold weather.
I had wanted to slip in a little something about it being Lian’s birthday, but the Faeries left no room for anyone else, and I didn’t want to break up the chapter by slipping it in, but be assured that the guys would have had a little celebration, despite that Lian is currently at Hogwarts.
