Never what it seems

Thank you for all the reviews! I've decided to write one more chapter after this so I can include some of your suggestions.

Keep in mind it's not the end-just a break from writing. Now, enjoy :-)

Harry knew his excuse wasn't justification for eavesdropping but his curiosity had been provoked. He had wandered into the kitchen to have some of the lemonade he knew Mrs.Weasley had made earlier that day.

She had made a point of reminding him that it was in the fridge along with the delicious lunch she had prepared.

"Make sure you eat! You've been looking a bit peaky recently", she had tutted before her husband escorted her out the door.

Most of the members of the Order were out and, as far as he knew, only him, Ron, Hermione, Sirius and Snape remained.

Everyone was busy and Harry was alone in the kitchen. Just as he took the first sip of the deliciously cool liquid he heard voices in the backyard.

The speaker was standing near where the kitchen window opened out to and was obviously under the impression that no one was in the area as the words, though hushed, could still be heard.

As Snape's voice said, "If anyone found out about this…" Harry found himself reflexively casting the spell again.

A secret? He had never completely trusted Snape. This was his chance to find out.

"Professor, live a little", Harry would have been less surprised if the words came out of the mouth of a Hippogriff but to hear Hermione Granger-the same girl who had told Harry in their first year that getting into trouble was even worse than being killed-say them nearly made him faint.

What was happening with the world?

Harry grabbed onto the kitchen table as he heard their conversation.

"Miss Granger…"Snape began and this time, Hermione's tone certainly had a teasing quality to it as she said, "So formal! As if we haven't done this before!"

"Fine. Hermione, I'm still not sure if this is something I…" Snape began and Harry heard Hermione sigh, as if she had heard this all before. He was still trying not to gag at having heard Snape use her first name.

"Remember last time? And the time before that? How worried you were about it and how much you loved it?" she asked and Snape chuckled.

Harry hadn't known he was capable of the sound!

"Oh, alright! But if anyone finds out about this…about what we're doing I will not hesitate to erase their memory", Snape said and Harry gulped. If he knew what he had heard…wait. Us!?

No.

Harry really hoped this was a mistake. Snape and Hermione? No way! He had always hated her!

Harry heard Hermione's laugh. She certainly didn't seem scared of him now.

"Don't worry, Professor. No one will ever find out. That's why I've put an untraceable spell on both of us. They won't know our location until the spell's removed. I wouldn't want to destroy our reputations" she said.

"Of course! The perfect student and strict teacher", he chuckled again before saying, "You always were the smartest witch in class. I have complete faith in you", Snape murmured and Harry's mouth dropped open. There was no sarcasm in his voice. And had he just complimented Hermione?

Where was the hate for Merlin's sake!

"Thank you", Hermione said and then dropped her voice. Harry could still hear her clearly.

"Better remove your clothes, Professor. I'll be waiting at our usual spot".

Harry ran from the room as fast as he could. How could he get this conversation out of his head?

Snape grabbed the bag Hermione passed over to him and waited until she had walked away before getting changed into the Muggle clothes she had picked out for him for their outing.

He apparated to her side and they both walked towards the bus stop.

Snape would have been mortified if anyone knew he had ridden the Muggle bus or if they found out about the Muggle dance club Hermione had introduced him to.

It was one of his best kept secrets- Severus Snape loved to dance and no one but him and Hermione would ever know.

He would have something else entirely to be mortified about if he had gotten an inkling of the different scenarios that were running through Harry Potter's mind at that very moment.

The next chapter (and the last one for now) will include Dumbledore as some of you wanted :-)
