Summer Forces
Chapter 6
Straightening her clothes fixing her posture, Hermione knocked on the door of Malfoy Manor using the brass knob that was attached to the door. Within moments, the door opened up to reveal a small house elf wearing a what looked like old pillow case.
"Hello Misses. Is you the one Mastered wrote to?" it questioned Hermione.
"Yes, your Master, Mr. Malfoy, called me here for dinner. Um... what is your name?" Hermione said as she glanced around the entrance to the Manor.
"I is Tipsy. Master is up in his room. Let me brings you to the Tea Room to waits for Master." Tipsy answered. Her face showed shock at Hermione's question.
"Lead the way, Tipsy." Hermione followed the house up a flight of stairs and down two long hallways before arriving at a set of glass doors. Opening the doors, Tipsy lead her inside the room.
The room was decorated in sunshine yellows and pearly whites. A white couch and two love seats sat in the middle of the room . The walls hung beautiful pictures but the one that caught Hermione's eyes was a picture of a couple sitting under a tree. They were holding hands and were happily laughing amongst themselves.
"That's my great grandfather Brutus and his wife, Elladora. They are one of the only Malfoy's that have been happy with their marriage," Looking behind her she saw Lucius standing, inspecting her. "I thought I said to dress formally, Ms. Granger."
"Oh, did you? Too bad I guess," she said shrugging her shoulders and turning back to the painting.
"Well, come sit. Would you like a spot of tea?" Lucius asked.
"Yes, please. Two sugars." When Hermione reached the closest chair, she decided to kick up her act a bit. Obviously Lucius wasn't happy about her apparel but he had not voiced his anger. Instead of sitting down properly, she tucked her knees underneath her.
"Ms. Granger, sit correctly in the chair. I do not wish to have the house elves wash shoe prints of the seat. That might be the way you treat your own furniture, but you will not destroy mine," he said while he fixed the tea in the corner. With a humph, Hermione sat with her legs in front of her but, her legs were open and she was slouching in the chair.
"Granger, I know that you were raised with muggles, but I thought you might at least have some manners. Sit up straight and cross your legs. You are a grown woman, not a pouting three year old," Hermione noticed the anger seeping through his words. Yes. He wasn't enjoying her company in the least.
The two of them sat in silence, sipping their tea for a few minutes before Tipsy popped in.
"Dinner is served, Master and Misses," Tipsy said with his head bowed before popping away again.
"If you will follow me, Ms. Granger, I will show you where the daily Dining Hall is," Lucius said extending his arm to help Hermione. However, Hermione sat up with out even looking at Lucius and started for the door. Dumbfounded, Lucius followed her. At his sides, his hands where clenching and unclenching. The entire way down to the Dining Hall Lucius tried to control his anger. He was afraid that the slightest thing was going to set him off. First the chit had chosen not to dress accordingly. Then she started acting like a child. And finally she couldn't be a lady and except the offer to be helped. When they reached the Dining Hall, Lucius heard a gasp from Granger. Turning to look at her, he noticed the look of aw on her face. She was glancing around the room like it was made of silver and gold. 'Well, the vases and candle holders are silver,' he smirked.
The Hall was lined with paintings of scenery and in the middle was a long table that could easily accommodate 20 people. Walking over to the table Lucius pulled out the chair at the end closest to him and Hermione. Walking past him, Hermione took a seat two chairs down from the one Lucius was holding. Practically slamming the chair back into its place, Lucius strode up to the head of the table. When he placed his napkin in his lap the first course appeared.
Throughout dinner, Hermione completely ignored Lucius. She plowed food into her mouth as if she hadn't eaten for days. Of course, she was doing this on purpose. She had decided that she was going to eat like Ron did because she knew how much it infuriated her. By the way Malfoy was acting, her plan was working. When dessert arrived Hermione politely took a slice of chocolate cake from Tipsy.
"So, Ms. Granger, are you currently working?" Lucius asked. Hermione took another bite of cake and answered Lucius with her mouth full.
"No, I'm appl-" before she could even finish her thought, Lucius had pushed back away from the the table and was striding towards Hermione.
"Ms. Granger, finish what is in your mouth and then stand. Since you are acting like a child, I will treat you like one. Now hurry up," Wiping her face with her napkin, Hermione turned towards Lucius, her eyes flashing with anger.
"Who do you think you are! Bossing me around like I'm twelve!"
"You are currently a guest in MY house who doesn't know her place," Lucius said. His patience was at its end and so he grasped Hermione around the upper arm and disapparated.
