  It shouldn't of surprised him. 'the boys' she had said. He thought about it awhile mauling it over in his mind and was a little shocked to discover that for her he would put up with the dunder heads.

  In fact the more he thought about it the more he seemed to find himself not averse to her at all.

    She was a Gryffindor but he could ignore that for her brains.

  She was a little bossy and a bit of a know it all but he could again deal with that for the debates and intellectual chatter.

  She was pretty, she smiled at him. she enjoyed his company, but was he willing to risk possibly liking a Gryffindor girl again and not just any one but one who was close with 'the boys'? He wanted to he wanted to trust her but was she truly worth it.

  As the event in question drew closer he was feeling just a tad bit worried. Just because he was willing to tolerate them for her would they be willing to tolerate him for her? He watched them with her at dinner, she had a way of making them all shine even Pettigrew seemed to smile more and join the conversation more. He found himself jealous of them for having her smile, since when had he cared? He paused to debate it and decided it must have been when she fell on him, it must have damaged him some how, the last person he cared about was Lily and look where that had gotten him.

  If he was truly honest with himself, which he did try to be fairly regularly, he still loved Lily. He watched her as well for a moment she sat next to Hermione and they were laughing at something Lupin had said. He sneered to himself, in reality he never had an issue with Remus, Lupin had tried to persuade the boys on any number of occasions to leave Severus alone they just never did. Lupin wasn't a bad person obviously or he wouldn't have been made house perfect, even if he lost head boy position to Potter, the thought caused another sneer.

    He looked around to notice dinner was finishing and thought back to the next event the thing that had triggered his thought process in the first place, 'hell this is going it be fun' even his thoughts were sarcastic about it.

  Just as he was rising Lucius approached him. "Severus" His voice was clipped and dry. Severus merely raised an eyebrow."We're have a meeting tonight, we would like it if you would attend.

  "I'm sorry to disappoint you but i have a previous engagement that i can not miss" Severus was not going to stand up Hermione to spend the evening with Nott and Malfoy and whoever else was invited analyzing everything said and done.

  "Nothing is more important then these meetings, one would think you had changed your mind." Lucius tone was cold as ice and deadly quiet, "of course if there is a -distraction- we can always see fit to remove it."

  "There is no distraction just a more pressing matter." Just then as if the man was all knowing Dumbledore walked past them turning to Severus and told him to make sure he made it to his office shortly, winking and walking off. Both Severus and Lucius sneered after him. "I'd better go, crazy old coot is likly to sign me detention if I'm not there 'shortly'"

  Severus made his way to Dumbledore's office smiling on the inside the man really was to good. He knocked and entered when beckoned. "Sir," Severus said clearing his throat, "thank you." it was awkward and uncomfortable.

  "It was nothing my boy but you might want to hurry along to your real previous engagement Ms. Granger might begin to worry you changed your mind" Dumbledore's eyes twinkled in secret knowledge.

  "Yes sir."

  Severus hurried to the tapestry. As he rounded the corner he could hear there voices.   

"What do you mean everyone is not here, who else did you invite?" James Potter was wining, he was leaning against the wall next to the tapestry much in the same manner as Black across from him they were all still in there uniforms, Lupin stood next to Hermione and Peter was looking out the window.  

"Me" was Severus reply when Hermione wasn't forth coming with an answer. Everyone turned to him in shock except Hermione whose face lit up in a huge smile.    

***I know this chapter is short but it feels right I wanted to let you know what is going on in his mind before going into the "event" ha ha I try not to write a lot of notes but I do really appreciate the encouragement in makes me feel good about my writing which I do enjoy but often feel silly after rereading if that makes any sense Thank you guys lots and lots and incase i don't find time to post before your chosen holiday (mine personally is Christmas) which I hope I will but am not making any promises Happy Holidays
