Chapter Five

(Kiss and Make Up)

She couldn’t complain about working in the one place she hoped to never return.

At least her office had a nice view of the lake from her bay window.

Standing on a wobbly chair, she carefully organized the top shelf for all her books to reside for future uses.

The sun kissed yellow walls were covered with her fondest memories framed in either taken with a muggle camera or moving like most wizard images does.

Her oak desk held other memories, especially a particular one she kept close to her heart.

The last picture they took before the end of a beautiful relationship.

October will always be the month of false promises and heartache.

“So it’s true…the infamous Desdemona Evans returned to where it all started. Should I be glad to see you or continue with the animosity of being dumped?” The rich baritone voice of a distant memory reached her ears as she let out a terrified scream from being startled.

How she did not hear the door open? It squeaked louder than a field mouse.

Grabbing onto the shelf to keep her balance, she looked towards the door to see Severus Snape standing there in his brooding glory leaning against the door frame with crossed arms and his trademark scowl.

“What the hell, Severus you could have killed me!” She screeched angrily at him carefully climbing off the chair before she did die.

She was sure he would enjoy watching her bitter demise.

Severus rolled his eyes at how dramatic she acted. “If you were to fall, you would have only broken your leg.”

“Thanks, something a girl would like to hear.” She grumbled sarcastically, and then sighed tiredly. “Why are you here?”

He turned his dark eyes on her, their usual gaze a little unnerving. “Why did you accept the job position knowing I worked here also?” He answered a question with a question.

She scoffed, averting her gaze to the picture on her desk. They soften at the memory that returned only when he was around. “To fulfill a dream a little girl once had.” She replied.

He smirked, familiar with this dream. “I always said you have the potential to be a professor.” He heard her chuckle at his attempt at a joke. He missed her laugh, the soft, gently sound only she could make. “I’ve really missed this,” He pointed between them. “What we had so many years ago.”

She looked up at him, her gray eyes beamed happily at his confession. “I’ve missed you too, Severus. I’m sorry…for everything.”
