Chapter Five
Dumbledore stood in his office staring out the window as he thought on recent events concerning one individual. He had spent the better part of that young boy's life making sure that he was molded and put through the right circumstances to make him the boy he was today. But through all his careful planning he had never for-seen this. Even Dumbledore didn't know what happened to the boy; sure he had gotten the medical report from Poppy so he knew what happened, but more like he didn't know how it could happen. The wards he had placed around that house should have kept any dark wizard out so the only logical thing could be that it had been a muggle that had broken into the house killed that family and attacked Harry. But there was evidence that Harry's magic had exploded in the house.
"Are you even listening to anything I've been telling you?" Snape's voice broke through his thoughts. The old wizard turned and smiled at Snape. This always annoyed the black haired man who was standing in front of his desk.
"The dark lord knows what happened to Harry. It will only be a matter of time before I am ordered to abandon my post here and take the boy with me to the dark lord." Snape repeated what he had been trying to tell the headmaster for the past fifteen minutes.
"I am well aware of that Severus. It was something that was bound to happen sooner or later." Dumbledore sat down in his chair and closed his eyes attempting to pick up the train of thought that Severus had so rudely interrupted. And that thought was, would his plan still work with Harry in his current condition. "How is Harry adapting to his new condition?" Severus stared at him almost not believing what he was hearing. Did this man truly not care about what happened to that boy? Sure he himself didn't much care, but that was merely because the boy looked far too much like his father for his liking. But the way the boy acted, his mannerisms' were far more similar to Lily's then anyone Snape had ever met.
"He attempted to attend class today." Snape said watching Dumbledore carefully, there was that smile again, and that twinkle. Yes that damn twinkle, Snape firmly believed that one of these days someone was going to cut out that old mans eyes just to stop that twinkling.
"Did he now?" Dumbledore laughed. "Well, I must say he is a determined boy. And how did he fare in class?"
"I said he attempted to attend. I refused him entry into my class room. He could botch even the simplest of potions when he could see. I would hate to see how much damage he could do now that he can't."
"My dear Severus, you yourself may be surprised at what he may be able to accomplish."
"I highly doubt that head master. Now if you please, what are we to do about-"
"We are not to worry about it until that order does come. If and when it does, you will take the boy to Voldamort as ordered. And do not argue about this Severus. If you do not follow that order I am sure there are others that would. You may leave now; I have some things I need to attend to." Dumbledore said and turned his attention to the papers on his desk leaving Snape to stand there gaping at him. Then with one swift turn Snape strode from the office making sure to slam the door behind him. All these years of keeping him 'safe' and now he was just supposed to hand Harry over to that half blood maniac? Snape had had his suspicions long before now about what Dumbledore intended to do with Harry, letting him run around the castle like he owned the place and that old fool would never hear one word against the brat. Hogwarts had become nothing more then a play ground for Harry. Snape was now determined to figure out everything Dumbledore planned. But first, he needed the best way to get Harry out from under that old coot's controlling thumb. It was going to take a little while and Snape knew he would need help so he took a detour to the Slytherin common room to locate his god son.
---
This was by far one of the weirdest dreams he had ever had. Not just because of the fact that he knew it was a dream, despite the fact that everything looked felt and smelt real to him. But at the same time every part of his being was telling him that it was all fake. Draco was even more convinced that this was a dream when he decided to take a look around his strange surroundings; he was in a house that he was sure he was absolutely sure he had never been in before and would never be caught dead in for the fact that his was a muggle house. He knew this as soon as he spotted the strange things that decorated the room he was in. The first thing he noticed was the television; how he even knew what this strange box was called was very confusing for him, though he didn't want to dwell on that right now. The second thing that had him convinced that this was a muggle house were the pictures on the mantle, there was one family picture in the back of two very large people and one skinny one. All the other pictures were of the large boy as he grew up. Draco stepped closer to the pictures to get a better look at them and frowned at the unexplainable feeling of fear seemed to settle in his stomach as he stared at the picture of the large man. This of course Draco knew was stupid; first of all he would never be scared of a fat looking muggle like him. But Draco didn't like the feeling so turned his attention to the rest f the room. After taking in what the rest of the room had to offer Draco decided it would be wise to look at the rest of the house, after all if he was going to be dreaming of a stupid muggle house he might as well look around and find out where this dream was going to lead him.
As Draco stepped out of the sitting room and into the hallway he stopped and stared at the scruffy looking boy that was standing in the hallway. He was leaning against the door to a cupboard. Though this Harry was much younger. It couldn't have been long before Draco had first met him. Draco made to step towards the boy but stopped once again when Harry's head shot up and he stared at him with wide eyes. Draco wasn't sure what to say or even do but then realized that Harry wasn't really staring at him, more like staring at something behind him.
"I thought I told you to stay in your cupboard!" Draco spun around and stared at the large man he had seen in the picture. He heard the faintest whimper from Harry as the man walked forward and grabbed a fist full of Harry's hair.
"I'm sorry uncle Vernon." Harry said attempting to get free. But this only enraged the man further, still holding onto Harry's hair he brought the boy's head forward before slamming it back against the door once, twice, four times until Draco saw blood on the door. It was this that made that man, Vernon, stop and stare at the red spot before narrowing his eyes at Harry. He opened the door to the cupboard and threw the boy inside. "No dinner for you for three days." He snapped before closing and locking the door. Draco stood there staring with wide eyes as the man stormed off towards the kitchen. Draco couldn't believe what he had just seen, but this was a dream…wasn't it?
"It is a dream, but it is also a memory." A voice said and Draco spun around wand drawn and held out pointed at the figure that had suddenly appeared. "It is a memory of that boy in the cupboard." The figure waved its hand. Draco glanced back at the cupboard and narrowed his eyes again looking back at the figure.
Draco continued to point his wand at the stranger as he spoke. "If this is Potters Memory why am I the one seeing it?"
"Because this is the only way it could get done. Little Malfoy, your destiny has been intertwined with that of this poor child's. You are both have strong magic, stronger then most wizards your own age."
"That doesn't exactly answer my question now does it?" Draco asked raising an eyebrow at him. The figure smiled at him sighing softly.
"Think little Malfoy. The day you met this child in that shop. How you tried to show off and prove that you were someone worth talking to, and your second meeting on the train when he chose to befriend that other boy, that over whelming disappointment you felt, and you felt betrayed yet you could not figure out why since you did not know the boy then." The figure stopped talking when there was a loud rumbling that shook the house he looked up for a moment then back at Draco. "I can not say any more then I have. But I must ask you, please save this child." Draco blinked as he stared at this figure. Why did everyone seem to find it a good idea that he be the one to help and protect Harry when he had hated the boy since first year, but as he looked back at the cupboard that Harry's young self was still locked in and felt something tighten in his chest.
"This child is someone important to me, and he will become someone important to you." Draco stared with wide eyes as the figure made an elegant bow and vanished seconds before everything around Draco seemed to crack then shatter as if it were glass. And then he was falling into the blackness that now surrounded him. His eyes snapped open a second before he hit the floor with a soft 'thud'. He lay there for a moment and stared up at the ceiling trying to figure out what exactly had just happened. 'It really was a dream' he told himself blinking when Pansy's face came into view.
"Are you alright Draco?" She asked staring down at him. He narrowed his eyes when he remembered that he was still in the common room, his cheeks turned slightly pink but he didn't say anything as he refused the help and stood up.
"Are you that tired Dray?" Blaise asked. "It's not like you to fall asleep in the common room after all."
"Just stressed out is all." Draco brushed his hair back but out of his face but it didn't do any good since it wasn't slicked back like usual. He straitened his robes a bit before sitting back on the couch he had previously been sleeping on while Blaise turned back to Greg to continue the conversation they must have been having. "I wouldn't get to comfy Draco; Snape came by looking for you and said he wanted you in his office as soon as you were awake." Pansy said. Draco sighed and stood up again. He was used to this, Snape had been calling him to his office at random times since first year, it was Snape's way of showing affection for his godson without ruining his reputation.
"I'll see you at dinner." Draco said heading out of the common room making the familiar journey to Snape's office. Reaching the door Draco knocked before opening it.
"Normally one would wait to be invited in after knocking." Snape said not looking up from where he was scribbling on papers and from the look of annoyance on his godfather's face Draco could safely assume he was grading some poor excuse for potion essays.
"And I find that pointless when I have already been invited to your office Uncle Sev." Draco said as he stepped inside and closed the door. Snape narrowed his eyes at the nickname but didn't say anything, Draco never knew if it really did annoy the potions master, but since nothing was ever said to make Draco stop he continued using it when he was alone with his godfather. Snape shuffled the papers together and put them aside. He watched as Draco walked over and sat in the empty chair across from him. "What did you want to see me about?" Draco asked.
"I would like to talk to you about Potter." Out of all the things that Snape could have said, this was the last thing he had ever expected.
"And why would I want to talk about him?" Draco asked watching his godfather.
"Because this is rather important and I think it would be in your best interest if you listen." Snape said as he stood up and started pacing. Draco watched him with a slightly worried expression on his face wondering what could have gotten his godfather so worked up that he couldn't sit still to talk about whatever it was. "I need your help, in finding a suitable place to hide Potter."
"…Why do you need my help? I'm sure that Dumbledore can find a hiding place for his golden boy."
"Do you really thing that he has anyone's best interest in mind besides his own? He has all but told me that once the dark lord orders me to bring Potter to him, that I am to do so. And dislike the boy as I do, I still do not wish to bring him to the one man that wants to kill him." Snape said as he paused in his pacing to stop and look at Draco as he spoke. Draco sat there in silence waiting for his godfather to continue. He knew it wasn't easy to ask for help it just showed Draco how grave the situation must truly be. "As I just started." Snape continued. "I do not wish to bring the boy to the Dark lord. Therefore we must find a place for him where no one, not even Dumbledore can get at him." Snape sat back in his chair and waited for Draco's response. Despite some rather foolish prank attempts by the boy Snape knew that he was very clever. It was now Draco's turn to look thoughtful.
"A place where no one can find him…could bring him over seas, but knowing him the only place where he could go would be the USA and someone would have to go with him obviously, considering the state he is in, even a familiar place for him can be dangerous." Draco leaned back in his chair staring at nothing in particular and Snape could practically see the wheels turning in the young man's head. "which that only bring up the question of who do we get to bring Potter to his new safe place when we do find him one." Draco looked at Snape now as he said this.
"I thought that would be obvious Draco. If we can not trust Dumbledore and the thought of asking those so called friends of his is laughable. Then it would clearly have to be either you or me."
"No, you mean it would clearly have to be me. You are the dark lords right hand man, you would be missed a lot sooner then I would. And I know they think I'm going to run anyway since I don't want that ghastly mark anywhere on my body. Nor do I think it is wise for me to fallow a half blood mad man."
"Alright that is one miner problem solved, now-"
"Now let me think on that a bit uncle Sev, and I'll let you know in a day or two what I come up with. We also have to figure out how we're going to get Potter to trust us and take him away from Dumbledore's safety net." Snape nodded.
"Very well. I will speak with Potter while you solve this problem." Snape said and dismissed Draco. The blond haired boy nodded to his godfather and was about to turn to leave the room when he saw something out of the corner of his eye, turning quickly he stared into the shadows where he was sure that someone had been standing only moments ago.
"Good night uncle Sev." Draco said making his strange movement as he continued turning to look at Snape once more then left the room rather quickly. He was sure he had seen someone standing there. And that someone looked similar to the figure that had been in his dream. '…this is nuts, I can't decide if it was real or a dream.' Though deep down he knew that it had been real, and that he would be seeing that person more and more. And not just in his dreams either.
----
Harry walked down the hall with Seamus leading him down to the great hall. Harry had insisted on eating dinner down there tonight and no matter what Seamus said Harry would not change his mind. "Just because yet another thing happened to me I do NOT want special treatment!" He had said stubbornly, and so against his better judgment Seamus was now in the entrance hall with Harry clutching his arm almost painfully as the noise from dinner drifted out of the great hall.
"If you changed your mind Harry…" Seamus started but Harry shook his head.
"I don't want to feel like I'm hiding Seamus. Besides, I might as well confirm the rumors that are probably going around about me." Harry smiled in his direction.
"And why would anyone waste their breath talking about you Potter?" Draco asked from behind them. He had reached the top of the stairs and seen those two standing there fully intending on ignoring them until he could complete the task his godfather had given him, but old habits die hard and the words had left his mouth before Draco even knew he was saying them.
"Leave him alone Malfoy." Seamus said warningly.
"Going to get your boyfriend to beat me up now?" Draco asked Harry watching the boy as he turned around so he was facing Draco but still clutching onto Seamus' arm. Draco opened his mouth to say something else but paused when he a new figure standing behind Harry. It wasn't the same one that Draco had been seeing but it had the same feel to it. He glanced at Seamus wondering if the other boy noticed the figure standing behind Harry, but there was no indication that anyone else could see it. So instead of making himself look as crazy as he felt Draco walked by the two of them heading into the great hall. Heading over to the Slytherin table he sat next to Blaise and Pansy. Though Draco didn't have much of an apatite right now. His mind to preoccupied with what Snape had spoke to him about. That and the site of Harry sitting at the table on the opposite side of the room. The figure was still standing next to Harry, though now it was staring strait at Draco. The blond haired boy felt an icy feeling shiver down his spine as he locked eyes with the figure who smiled at him.
"What are you looking at Draco?" Pansy's voice broke the trance and he looked at her. "Watching Potter again?" She asked and looked in the direction that Draco had been staring a moment before. "He seems to be doing alright, though I'm surprised that he is actually here. If I had been though what he has I wouldn't want to be around anyone, let alone a crowd like this." She motioned to the students in the great hall.
"About that…You never told me everything that you found out when you examined him on the train." Draco said pinning her and Blaise with a cold stare.
"I never thought you were that thick Draco." Blaise drank some pumpkin juice ignoring the look Draco was giving him. "If you think about it you will come up with the answer. Or do you want us to tell you simply because you know the answer and you don't want to believe it so you're looking for someone to tell you that you're wrong." Blaise asked and locked eyes with his friend who stared back at him for a moment or two before looking away and staring back over in the direction of Harry and that figure.
"No…I don't need you to tell me." Draco said and pushed his plate away. "I need to talk to Potter." He said and stood up going over to the other side of the room, he ignored the looks he was getting as he headed over to the Gryffindor table.
"Oi, what are you doing over here farret?" Ron's annoying voice spoke up once he was sure that Draco was coming towards them and not leaving the great hall. Draco raised an eyebrow at him but didn't answer his question, he just looked at Harry.
"Potter, can you come with me? I need to speak with you about something." Draco said.
"He's not going anywhere with you Malfoy." Hermione said glaring at him and like Ron, she was ignored by Draco who still had his full attention on Harry. Harry shifted in his seat and turned his head slightly so he could hear Draco better.
"…why would I go with you?" He asked.
"Because of the person standing next to you." Draco said before he could actually think about it. He only hoped that Harry would get the hint while the others at the table just looked confused about Draco's comment. Harry however had his mouth open slightly.
"You…"
"Will you come with me?" Draco interrupted. Harry Thought about it for a moment before he stood up.
"I'll be alright." The raven haired boy reassured his friends as Ron and Hermione moved to stand up as well.
"I can come with you if you want Harry." Seamus offered and Harry smiled in his direction shaking his head.
"I'll be alright sea." Harry then turned his attention to Draco. "I think it would be best if you lead the way since knowing my luck I'd lead us right into a wall.' He said and Draco smiled a little, stupid as the joke was Draco thought it was a good sign that Harry was at least attempting to joke with him. He reached out and took Harry's wrist leading him along and out of the great hall ignoring the whispers' that followed. The two boys walked quickly and in silence for a few moments before Harry spoke up again.
"where are you taking me?"
"Somewhere that we can't be over heard." Draco said simply and frowned when he felt Harry try to jerk his wrist away. "I'd rather not have people thinking I'm as insane as I'm already thinking I am." Draco explained. "We're going to the room of requirement." Harry didn't try to pull away again, but Draco could practically feel the fear rolling off Harry in waves. It was understandable, Draco had never given Harry any reason to trust him about anything. And he wasn't really expecting Harry to start trusting him from one incident. They were silent again until Draco reached the room of requirement, made the door appear and led Harry in closing the door behind him before looking directly at the figure and glaring at him.
"Alright, now you're going to tell me who the hell you are, why you're following Harry around and why is it that I'm the only one who can see you?" Draco asked trying to remain calm.
"Because this little one here is blind folded therefore he can not see me. But he can hear me. Isn't that right child?" The figure asked running it's figures through Harry's hair again. Harry nodded slowly.
"…I can hear you…and I still wish you wouldn’t do that…I…I don't…"
"Being touched is not a fearful thing." The figure said. "I am merely trying to show you that not all touches will hurt." The figure explained and it was Draco's turn to have his mouth fall open.
"…Are you telling me it's true?" He asked wide eyes. Harry frowned turning towards Draco's general area.
"Is what true?" He asked frowning.
"I saw you, you were in a muggle house, and…I guess it was your relatives-" Draco was cut off when Harry let out a small whimper at the mention of his family. Draco hadn't realized until that point how much he had been wishing and hoping that it had all been a dream, that his assumptions were wrong. Even though Malfoy's were never wrong, Draco still wished that he was wrong about this. That he had been imagining things. And that what he had seen in that dream had been just that, a dream. "They abused you, in more then one way, didn't they?" Draco asked.
Harry stood there frozen as Draco asked the question he had wanted so much for someone to ask him, for years before he even came to Hogwarts he would hope that someone would notice, that someone would say something but they all seemed to think that he was a rotten child that had deserved whatever beating uncle Vernon had dished out. And things got worse once he had started going to Hogwarts, but even then, no one here had noticed, and if they had they didn't seem to care. And at the end of every year, he was sent back there back to endure a summer of beatings, and verbal abuse and whatever else his uncle could think of. And now, after they were all dead, it was now that someone spoke up, that someone decided to take notice and have the nerve to sound concerned for him. "So what if they did?" Harry asked his anger slowly rising. "Maybe I deserved it; maybe I'm just a freak and actually enjoyed it!" He shouted at Draco who stared at him with wide eyes. "I mean really who wouldn't enjoy being sat on by their lovely 600 pound whale of a cousin?! Who wouldn't enjoy being starved for days while being locked in a cupboard only because your aunt forgot to unlock the door to let you out. Oh and we can't forget the little torture camber that uncle set up in the basement, that was probably the best time of my life." Harry was shaking and breathing heavily as he stood there and spilled out everything. Everything he had never been able to say, everything he had never been allowed to say for fear of more beatings, or worse, fear of it being ignored and allowed to continue. It was why Harry had wanted someone to find out, because then he wouldn't have to face the fear of actually telling someone. But it didn't matter any more, there was no one to beat him now, privet drive was empty and he would never be going back there. It suddenly hit him like a bludger. He had no where else to go. He was still under age and his only living relatives had been killed. Harry sank to the floor his arms wrapped around himself and he screamed.
Draco didn't know what to do. He stood there and listened to Harry shouting at him but he was at a loss as to what he should do. He was a Slytherin, and a Malfoy, both of which never showed their emotions so freely. He looked over towards the figure that was watching Harry sadly and wondered why it wasn't doing anything to comfort the boy that looked like he was still in so much pain. And then the scream came, it was a scream that was filled with a life time of pain and Draco wondered how long Harry had been holding it in. The blond boy was surprised to feel his eyes stinging with tears as he wondered how anyone could make such a sound that ripped through to your very soul. Draco stepped forward slowly and knelt down in front of the crying boy. "…potter…" He said softly but got no response, so he tried again. "harry." He whispered putting a hand on Harry's shoulder glad that the shaking boy didn't pull away. Something told him that right now was the best time to act on instincts here, and even though his next move made him feel foolish, he pulled Harry closer and wrapped his arms tightly around the shaking boy. Harry froze for only a moment before he broke down. His sobs shook his whole body as he felt those strong arms holding him and felt like if they let go, he would just fall apart. He clung to Draco like a life line, he didn't care that the boy holding him now was someone he had considered an enemy for the better part of five years the only thing that Harry cared about right now was the fact that out of everyone he knew, Draco was the one that was here now. Draco was the one who had broke down the wall, and Draco was the one holding him as a life time's worth of pain poured out of him.
Draco didn't know how long they sat there, but it felt like hours. He had shifted at some point so that his back was leaning against the wall and Harry was sitting on his lap now. As he held the other boy he noticed a few things that he hadn't before. Like the fact that Harry was so small and thin that if he hadn't known that this boy was the same age he would have assumed he was holding someone who was at least 12 maybe 13. The next thing he noticed was when Draco started coming his fingers through Harry's hair much like the figure had been earlier, he found that he wasn't able to stop, because despite how messy the hair was, it was very soft.
Draco heard a sniff and hiccup from Harry and noticed that the boy had stopped crying, but had made no moves to get off Draco's lap, he had begin to wonder if Harry had actually fallen asleep when the black haired boy spoke finally, his voice slightly horse from the screaming and crying.
"…was there still something you wanted to talk about?" Harry asked, his voice despite being horse was eerily calm. And this worried Draco more then the crying and screaming had.
"Actually yes, there is." He said. "Professor Snape called me to his office earlier today." Draco paused wondering how much he should actually tell Harry. But then considering that Harry was Dumbledore's golden boy he probably already knew a lot about Snape that Draco didn't. "He thinks it would be best if you were to disappear for a while, somewhere where the Dark lord can't find you." Harry sat up pulling away from Draco turning his head towards him.
"…Was this dumbledore's idea?" He asked. Draco shook his head but stopped remembering that the motion was pointless.
"Not that I'm aware of. But Snape might not have told me everything either. I mean, he has no reason to after all."
"Then why did he tell you that much?" Harry sounded a little suspicious. But Draco thought it might be best if he didn't tell Harry that it had been all Snape's idea in an attempt to hide him from both the dark lord AND Dumbledore.
"Perhaps because I would be going into hiding with you." Draco said. "It's not really a smart thing to do, stay out in the open while you're planning on refusing the dark mark. And considering who my father is, there is more pressure on me then most of the other Slytherin's who have parents following that mad man's orders."
"You're not taking the dark mark Malfoy?"
"Isn't that what I just said Potter?" Harry blushed and lowered his head and Draco ran his hand through Harry's hair again. "Like I was saying, we need a safe place where we can hide where no one will find us. I say that because I don't want the dark lord finding out where we are and coming to kill either of us." Draco said.
"Perhaps we may be of some assistance there." Draco looked up quickly; he had forgotten that there was someone else in the room. And by the way Harry jumped it was safe to assume that he had as well. But when Draco looked up he saw not only the figure that had been following Harry around, he also saw the one from his dream.
"maybe you can. But before I follow any advice from you I think it would only be polite if you told us who you were. You've both been following Harry around for a while now haven't you?" Draco asked.
"Yes, and no. We have been watching both of you since the day you were born. But only these grave circumstances have allowed us to make ourselves known to you." The first one said and smiled at Draco as he stepped closer and Draco could actually see his features clearly as if some kind of illusion had been taken off. His mouth dropped and he stared, he was dimly reminded that no Malfoy would ever show their shock so openly; even a Malfoy would not be able to hold in their surprise especially when the other figure stepped forward his illusion fading as well.
"You're…." Draco trailed off telling himself he must be seeing things.
"I am Godric Gryffindor. And my friend here is."
"Salazar Slytherin." The other figure introduced himself. Salazar stepped forward and put his hand on Harry's stopping the black haired boy from taking off his blindfold. "I wouldn't do that little one; you will hurt your eyes even more. You may see us at a later time I promise. However right now I think it is more important that we work on hiding you two from my grandson."
"Several years removed." Godric added. "Really Sal, I wouldn't want to publicly announce that you are related to that snake."
"It's not like it's some kind of secret." Salazar said rolling his eyes. "At least one line of my descendants isn't quite so corrupt." Salazar said and smiled warmly in the direction of Harry and Draco. "Yes, one of you descend from my blood line. While the other-"
"Is from my blood line." Godric said kneeling down in front of the two of them.
"…we do?" Harry asked. "Who…?"
"I'm sorry little one, that is not for you to know just yet. But just the same, we are here to help you both so that a prophecy may be fulfilled. Do not ask about the prophecy because even we do not know the full extent of what it says. It was told years before Hogwarts was even created. We just know what has to be done, and keeping you two safe and out of harms way is one of those things." Godric stood up and looked at Salazar. "Now then old friend, what do you think should be done?"
"Draco, have you thought of a place that may be safe for the two of you?" he asked and Draco frowned.
"Not really sir no."
"What about you little one?" He asked Harry who bit his lip and had his head lowered.
"Anywhere we go Voldamort will be able to follow." Harry said. "Even if we go over seas, I don't think that would stop him from hunting us down. I don't think he has followers just here. They're probably all over the place, so even in another country all Voldamort has to do is contact them, and it's not like me and Draco can blend in very well…"
"I can blend in just fine." Draco protested and Harry smiled.
"Even if you had to live as a muggle?" Harry asked. "And worse then that, a common muggle, one not in high society where you might actually be able to pull it off." Draco paled at this, the thought of maybe living as a muggle had never even accrued to him. He had been trying to think of places in the wizarding world where he and Harry would be safe. But thinking about it now, wouldn’t Voldamort be expecting like that from Draco? Or any pure blood wizard for that matter. They knew nothing of how muggles truly lived and so would automatically try and think of some place that would be comfortable for them yet also where they thought someone wouldn't look for them.
"There is only one place I can think of that Voldamort wouldn't be able to reach us…but I don't think it's even possible…"
"Why don't you think it's possible?" Godric asked.
"Because…I don't know. It just doesn't seem like it would be possible."
"Yet it is the safest place. And the Voldamort of this time would never be able to reach you there. And you should learn this now little one, that anything is possible with the right amount of magic." Salazar said.
"of this time…You're talking about sending us to another time!?" Draco asked staring at them all in disbelief. "But the dark lord has been around for years, first of all the only way to make it to the past is time turners, and the ministry would never allow us to have them. And second, even if we could make it to the past some how, how far back would we go? And how would we do it without changing the past?"
"Do you always have to be so negative Malfoy?" Harry asked moving to stand up. "Is there really a way to do that?" He asked sounding almost hopeful.
"There is, and there is also a spell that can be placed on the two of you so that anyone who sees you once you are gone from that time, they will forget you ever existed in that time." Godric explained. "It is by far the best option you have." Harry nodded his agreement. Draco stood up as well and looked at the two Hogwarts founders.
"And when exactly would you be sending us to? I think in any time people would not welcome two strangers suddenly appearing out of no where. And would you be keeping us in Hogwarts or would we be going somewhere else?" Draco asked wanting full details before he even agreed to do this.
"We would be keeping you in Hogwarts, it is the safest place." Godric said. "And as to when we would be sending you back to I have a time in mind." He smiled gently at the two boys and Salazar rolled his eyes.
"I suggest we send them back to when we founded Hogwarts, and we were still teachers in this school." He said stubbornly and Godric rolled his eyes.
"I dare not send them back that far. Times back then were brutal, and even you can not deny that. Not to mention you were not exactly in your right mind after Hogwarts was founded either. If Harry here were to show up in the school suddenly, a half blood, you would not give him a second glance and would probably treat him as poorly as most of the other students were." Godric said and Salazar glared at him. "No, I think the time when their parents were at this school would be well enough. Plus, it may be good for the little one to get to know who his parents were." Draco stood there in silence listening to their conversation, he himself couldn't say he would be too thrilled to see what his father was like while at school, but he could see the small smile that had appeared on Harry's face at the thought of meeting his parents. So Draco didn't want to say anything against it, it was truly the first real smile, small though it was, he had ever seen on the boy's face.
"I will talk to Professor Snape." Draco said. "He at least would like to know where we are going." Draco insisted.
"I do not think that is a wise choice. He may not work for my grandson-"
"Several years removed" Godric added again.
"But it would be safer for him and yourselves if he as well did not know where you were going. Little one." Salazar looked at Harry. "Go and grab your map and cloak. And anything else you may not want to leave behind. Same goes for you little Malfoy. Once you have what you need. Meet back here at midnight tonight outside the room." He put his hand on Harry's head. "I will lead you here tonight little one so do not worry." He looked at Draco who nodded.
"We better get back to the great hall before people start to wonder if I've done something to Potter."
"Harry." Harry said and Draco blinked at him.
"What?"
"If we're going to be doing this together, I think it's only right that you call me Harry."
"Alright then….Harry." Draco said and even though he'd slipped up a couple times and called the other boy by his first name before. He still felt strange doing it on purpose. "Come on then, let's get going." He took Harry's hand this time instead of the boy's wrist and led him to the door. They paused for a moment and Draco looked behind him, but the Hogwarts founders were gone. Draco shivered and left the room with Harry thinking about what would happen later that night and thinking he should at least tell Blaise and Pansy something so that they wouldn't worry.
"Are you going to tell anyone?" Draco asked Harry.
"…Seamus maybe. But I won't tell him where I'm going." This statement caught Draco off guard. He thought for sure that Harry would have told the weasel and mudblood.
"That's a bit surprising. Is he really your boyfriend or something?" Draco asked glancing over at the other boy who shook his head.
"No, it's just…He's the only one I've ever been able to talk to before. I mean, really talk to. Ron was the first person my own age I met when I came to this world. But he's short tempered, and there's not a lot I can say to him that he'll understand. And Hermione, though I consider her a friend, has always tried to act older then she really is. Because she's so smart and-"
"Hn. I think I should be insulted." Draco said interrupting Harry. "I was under the impression that you had met the weasel on the train in first year."
"…I did." Harry looked and sounded confused at Draco's sudden attitude.
"Did I really make that bad of an impression on you in Madam Malkin's?" Draco asked and then Harry remembered when Hagrid had taken him shopping for his school supplies back in first year.
"I…No…you really weren't I guess…" Harry said though he could hardly remember the conversation, only that Draco had intimidated him, and then later on the train had made himself out to be better then Ron, so Harry told Draco this.
"He insulted me." Draco said. "So I insulted back. And because of that you…" Draco trailed off biting his lip before he could say anything else. 'before you refused to be my friend.' Was what he had almost said, but even thinking about it, it made him sound pathetic, and Malfoy's weren't pathetic.
"I'm sorry." Harry said since he didn't really know if there was anything he really COULD say.
"Never mind Harry, never mind." They entered the great hall and Draco lead Harry back over to the Gryffindor table. Ron was the first out of his seat glaring daggers at Draco but the blond boy ignored him and led Harry over to Seamus. "I'll see you later Harry." He said turning and going back over to his own table. Seamus caught Harry's arm gently pulling him down into the empty seat next to him. "I'll tell you later." Harry whispered to him and began picking at his food that Seamus was putting on his plate for him. Neither boy really ate much of anything at dinner, their minds to busy thinking about what would happen later that night. Wondering how long they would be in the past and Harry wondered what he would say to his parents when he met them. He also wondered if he would be allowed to stay in Gryffindor tower or if he and Draco would have to stay somewhere else. But, these were all questions that would be answered at midnight.
