He picks Lucius off of the floor.
Carrying his pet is far more satisfying at the moment then making his crawl. Severus has always preferred to keep his victims close after a session. The pet whimpers as his over sensitized skin comes in contact with the rough fabric of Severus’s suit. The whimper almost tempts him to take the long way to his bedroom.

He reminds himself that there are other things to do and Lucius is in no shape to play. Long years without proper conditioning have lessened the blond’s resilience. They have time to build it up again this summer so there is no need to rush.
The bed linen is a deep dark green. His pet becomes picture of contrasting gold, silver and scarlet. A pretty picture Severus take his time memorizing.

“Do not leave the bed unless you want to sleep on the floor for the rest of the summer. Call an elf if you need anything.”

He doesn’t wait for a response. Whichever path Lucius chooses doesn’t really matter. He leaves the bedroom summoning his cloak on the way out of the house. The grounds are lush, vast and welcoming. The modest mansion is another of Voldemort’s gifts to his treacherous Potions master wrapped in dark wards and monitoring spells. Muttering spells and charms the former professor leaves them behind.

Apparating to the other side of the channel should take more energy then it does. His arm should be tired from wielding the whip. Yet the whole encounter seems to have energized him. Even the harsh wind blowing off the North Sea is just a pleasant addition to the brisk walk he takes deeper in to the dunes towards a decrepit holiday home.

The illusion dissipates as soon as the door closes behind him. The one room hovel turns in to a comfortable cottage. Its occupant does not lower his wand until Lilith is on the floor in full view.

“You’re late.”

Annoyed at the tone Severus sprawls in the closest chair at hand.

“Something required my attention longer then expected.”

His companion motions for him to continue but Severus prefers to give his attention to Lilith conjuring a saucer of milk.

“Severus…”

“It is non of your business what occupies the time I do not spend assisting you. This meeting isn’t truly necessary and could endanger everything.”

The old man looks at him with an expression, Severus thinks, which is supposed to be fatherly. When he was younger the Potions master believed the feelings behind that look to be genuine despite evidence to the contrary. These days he marvels at the foolishness of his younger years.

“I thought that Voldemort trust you? If not then perhaps our plans need to be adjusted. You can still come back to Hogwarts.”

Severus can’t keep himself from snorting in amusement.

“Come back to the school? No, the Dark Lord trusts me as much as he trust anyone at the moment. There is no need to change anything. Except your delusions. I shall not set foot in to the school again.”

“Really my boy there is no need to be so hostile. I…”

Irritation turning in to anger.

“As cliché as it sounds do not try anything. Should anything happen to me…”

Threatening is really childish but Severus can’t resist. The anger in his companion’s eyes pleases him.

“I have contacted several people who will be able to help with our endeavor. They will start contacting you within a few weeks. I shall contact you when I know more.”

He rises collecting his familiar again.
There is no reason to stay longer everything that needs to be said has been said.

“Severus really…”

“Do not test me Aberforth I might have tolerated it from you brother. I have no intention to do so with you.”

Not waiting for a response he leaves the cottage.
The weather has gone bad in the short time he has spend inside, dark clouds gathering on the horizon.
Going home is tempting but Severus’s mood has soured. Playing with Lucius in this mood would prove detrimental to the both of them. Instead he Apparates to London in to Diagon Alley and slipping between its cheery facades in to the more palatable darkness of Knockturn.

There surrounded by the echoes of dark magic his bad mood starts to easy a little. The fact that its denizens give him the right of way helps as well. He makes his way further in to the darkness to the oldest of the pubs. Since he is here anyway he might as well hold an ear to the ground.
