The Bet
THE BET - chapter 6
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Half way through lunch, Draco and Harry figured out they had a mind connection, and they could talk to each other instead of everyone else, or help the other reply to someone that wanted to talk to them.
’Potter, Help! Weasley wants me to talk to him about Hermione. What am I to say?’ Draco’s thoughts portrayed panic.
‘Tell Ron, Hermione is just doing some more studying, and doesn’t want to be disturbed. He should be content with that.’ Harry replied back. ‘What do you want me to do about Pansy? She want’s a date after the game tonight.’
Draco didn’t answer immediately, because he was trying to get Ron to leave him alone. “Ron, I’m going to go rest for the game tonight. I’ll talk to you later.” Draco looked over at Harry and replied, ‘Tell her you can’t tonight because you need your beauty sleep. She can go out with Bolstrode, if she wants help to party. Then excuse yourself and go to the owlery.’
“Pansy, I need my beauty sleep. You should go out with Bolstrode if you want help to party. Everyone, excuse me.” Harry got up and barely got a foot away from his seat when Crabbe and Goyle came to walk behind him. “Guys I don’t need you where I’m going. Sit back down.”
Crabbe and Goyle looked a each other with surprise on their faces. “Draco, we were going to go to the field today. You said you wanted to practice on Thursday.”
“Guys, I had a sudden change of schedule. I’ll meet you down on the pitch in an hour.” Harry quickly stated to get them away from him. He watched as they both sat back down and started to talk to Blaize and Pansy.
Harry walked as regal as he could out of the Hall. When he was sure he was out of sight from everyone and had cleared the doors to the outside, he started to run to the owlery. He passed a few people who just stared, because he looked as if he were running for his life.
When he reached the owlery, he saw Draco just waiting and petting Hedwig. “I’m glad she won't bite me, because I’m you. She’s a beautiful bird.” Draco held his hand out for the owl to fly up to a perch.
“Well, she usually doesn’t bite many people. Now, what did you want to meet up here for?”
Draco walked to Harry and grasped him by the shoulders and kissed him. He didn’t really anticipate Harry to push him on to the floor about as fast as he kissed him.
“What are you doing?! We came up here for you to put moves on me? What the hell was wrong with an empty room?” Harry exclaimed.
“Merlin, Potter, I didn’t think you would’ve stayed after that. Now, to answer your questions, I was kissing you. We came up here because no one is likely to bother us and an empty room usually echoes.” Draco replied getting up from the floor. He used his wand to clean his robes.
“Draco, I am gay, but YOU? I didn’t know you were. What about all those girls you were rumored to fuck? And why did you have to kiss me? We could’ve just got this over before lunch.”
“What? Now, I’m confused. Yes, I’m gay. I haven’t screwed no one, but Pansy. I can’t let the whole of Slytherin house know I’m gay. It’s not good to be a flamboyant queer inside the snake pit. You’d get eaten alive.”
Harry laughed at his use of words for himself and Slytherin house. He felt better now, “I guess even the snakes know it’s the snake pit. Sorry about getting you dirty. You missed a spot.” Harry walked over to Draco and cleaned the back of his robes. When Draco turned back around, Harry kissed him and wrapped his arms around Draco so he couldn’t push him anywhere.
“Potter, Malfoy, may I ask what you are doing?” Hermione said as Snape like as she could. Severus looked sharply at her.
Harry and Draco froze as they were and looked at Hermione. “Well, are you going to separate or are we going to have to part you?”
“Did... how long... were you...” Draco stammered. He and Harry separated slowly, but decided to keep closer then usual.
Snape interrupted him, “We got here right after the first kiss and waited around the corner. Glad, we didn’t charge in then.” Snape made his face look as evil as he could.
“Snape, you may not want to do that emotion with Hermione’s face. It’s more funny then evil.” Harry tried not to laugh out.
Hermione spoke up, “Boys the quidditch match is still on. I went to Minerva and tried to get the game postponed, but we ended up making a bet on how the game would end up. If you get the game to be tied I’ll give you both 50 galleons.”
Snape asked, “Where are you getting 100 galleons Miss Granger? From your bet or your OWN pocket?”
“Well, Snape, if I win I get 300 galleons and if Minerva wins she gets the same. I’m sure she’ll ask Draco to win for her too. But I don’t know how much she’ll give him. She bet Gryffindor would win, and I want a tie, so I had to find these two first.” Hermione gestured to Harry and Draco.
“Hermione? What are you going to do with the other 200 galleons?” Harry asked.
“Well, I’m going to go and buy the ingredients for the polyjuice potions. I’m going to buy extra potion stuff too, because if I’m going to be stuck in the potion master’s rooms and without something to do I might as well use the space properly, right?” Hermione didn’t look at Snape, because she was afraid he would tell her she couldn’t.
Snape didn’t reject her idea though. “If you’re buying your own ingredients and using your own utensils, and won't blow up my dungeons, I don’t care if you want to experiment, Miss Granger. As long as I can do my own brewing without disturbances, we’ll be fine.”
The quidditch match started out perfectly on time. Hermione had Snape go with the twins and Ron, to watch the game. She, though, walked up the stair case for the teachers seats with Minerva. “So, our bet still on? Tie versus Gryffindor?”
“Severus, I never back down from a bet. Gryffindor will win the game and the Cup. Be ready to lose.” Minerva sat down in her usual seat by Dumbledore when they entered the box.
Hermione sat on one of the upper benches in the back to see Snape and the whole pitch. Then waited for the Games to really begin.
