Chapter 6
RAVENRIN & SLYTHERCLAW- Chapter 6
Now the first task was over, everyone’s minds were on the Yule Ball and the same was said for all of the professors, whom in each of their classes on the 10th December, announced that the said ball would take place at 8pm on Christmas Day. This brought much joy and excitement to older years but anyone in year 4 and below were in very foul moods and soon were the originators of certain curses (i.e. the Bat- Boogie Curse). As it happens, it was mainly the Gryffindor and Slytherin youngsters who were the ones always in detention until the curse throwing had stopped.
“You still wearing what we bought from Diagon Alley?,” Honeysuckle quizzed Argenta as they were completing their Charms homework in the library.
“I have to match my partner!” Just then, two Durmstrang boys marched straight up to their table and bowed low.
“Vould you do us the honour of coming to the Yule Ball vith us?,” the stockier of the pair asked. Honeysuckle and Argenta began giggling before Argenta could say anything.
“Sorry boys. But I’ve already promised to go with Honey,” she said as she reached over the table and took Honeysuckle’s hand tenderly, gazing deep into her eyes.
“Crazy English girls,” the shorter of the pair muttered as they walked away and joined Viktor Krum on a nearby table.
“Oh thank Gods we decided to be each other’s date,” sighed Argenta, who was now lazily flicking through one of the more interesting text books in front of her. A shadow fell over the table, causing Honeysuckle and Argenta to look up and search for the reason for the blockage of light. Viktor Krum was stood stock still, like a statue before he too bowed low before speaking.
“Could I have a vord vith you Honeysuckle? In private please.”
“Go ahead Honey. I’ll wait for you in the usual place,” Argenta said whilst casting Viktor a glance of pure hate. She still hadn’t forgiven him over the eggs being crushed during the first task. Honeysuckle had soon packed all of her things up and was strolling along the lake’s shore with Viktor.
“What did you want to talk about?,” Honeysuckle asked, looking at her now, quite firm and strangely quiet friend.
“I vant to ask someone to the Ball. But I don’t know how to go about it. Vhat should I say?”
“Well, I hope it’s not me or Argenta! I’m sure you’ve heard from your fellow pupils we’re not going with any boys.”
“Ja. Peter and Dieter have told everyone. Do not vorry. I vas not going to ask you. I vant to ask the charming young lady vho is friends vith Potter,” Viktor finally confessed, blushing slightly.
“Oh, you mean Hermione Granger. Yes, she a nice girl.”
“But how do I ask her?”
“She’s always in the library, maybe you could catch her alone, down one of the many areas of the library perhaps. I’ll make sure that no fans are hanging about when you ask. I’m sure I can come up with some way of distracting them,” Honeysuckle said giggling.
“That vould be great! You are too much of a good friend,” Viktor said as he put an arm around her shoulders and left it there as they walked back to the castle. Just as they reached the Durmstrang ship, Hagrid came strolling over to them.
“Honeysuckle!,” he cried as he took two last steps and joined them.
“Hey Hagrid!,” Honeysuckle replied.
“Thanks for the card. You didn’t have to!”
“Ahhh, Hagrid. It was no problem!”
“Well, I’ll see you in next lesson then,” Hagrid said as he walked away and disappeared through the main doors of the castle.
“I’ll have to get some help for the distraction, but I’ll come find you in the library when it’s ready.”
“Thank you again Honeysuckle. I am glad I have at least one friend at Hogwarts,” Viktor said smiling, before entering the ship, leaving her to make her way to the castle and to Argenta who was sat bored and alone in their snug corner. Just before she reached where Argenta was, she bumped into the Weasley Twins.
“Just the boys I need! How do you feel about causing a little distraction for little moi?”
“Us? Distraction?,” asked Fred, trying to look innocent. It never worked on Honeysuckle.
“Bill said thanks for the card by the way, and we would love to help you,” George said, nudging his twin.
“Thanks guys. I’ll leave it up to you to think of the kind of distraction. Use your Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes if you have to. But don’t tell anyone that a Prefect told you that!,” Honeysuckle called as she walked towards Argenta, who was looking at her strangely.
“What did Krum want?”
“Some friendly advice on how to ask a girl to the Ball. You would never guess who he wants to ask!”
“Some Gryffindor probably, because about half of the Slytherin girls have asked and all got a no,” Argenta replied.
“Well, you’re right with the Gryffindor part. He’s a bit shy and would never get his quarry on his own because of his legions of fans that follow him everywhere,” Honeysuckle explained.
“So that’s the reason for talking to your fellow pranksters. The need to draw the fans away so Krum can ask the girl in question without any squealing fans right behind him is very much a worthy cause. What can I do to help?,” Argenta said, her eyes lighting up with mischief and delight.
“Enough of pranks. Now what about how we’re going to do our hair and make-up! We need to organise it all now!”
“Well, we’re both wearing near enough the same colours and our hair will easily go up into the French style, like the Revolution times. It would go really well with the dresses.”
“True. I think we need to try out all of the make-up styles this weekend,” Honeysuckle proposed, to which Argenta nodded her agreement.
That weekend the girls shut themselves away into the girl’s Slytherin dorm whilst being very giggly with all the sparkly eye shadows in silver, blue and green mainly and piling each other’s hair up and adorning it with flowers and jewelled pins to not only make it look pretty but the pins were practically holding the hair style together. Once they had agreed on how their hair and make-up would be for the Ball, they then removed the more extravagant of the hair ornaments and make-up before heading to the Great Hall for dinner.
Christmas was drawing nearer and so The Twins had finally come up with the ideal distraction for Honeysuckle. It entailed the Twins standing in front of a brick wall and telling people that it was a magical hidden passageway.
“Ladies and germs. This passageway can only be accessed when you are at a run. It will bring you out in the basement storage of the one and only Honeydukes’ of Hogsmeade!” Excited whispers filled the corridor which included not only Hogwarts students, but pupils from both Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. Dennis Creevey was the first to step up and take a long, fast run at the wall. He fell onto his back when he encountered the wall.
“Ahh, such a shame mate. You mustn’t have ran fast enough,” Fred laughed, and was soon joined by others laughing along too. As this distraction went on, Honeysuckle had told Viktor that now was the time and get on with it! She hid away in the Invisibility section of the library and watched the scene taking place. Hermione said yes. Honeysuckle skipped off to tell the Twins that the distraction could stop, but couldn’t resist watching before doing her perfectly duty.
“Right, that’s enough! Everyone back to your Common Rooms! You two in here!,” she shouted, holding open a door to a classroom. She gently closed the door and cast the Silencing Charm on the door before turning to the Twins with a huge grin on her face.
“Mission accomplished! That worked perfectly boys. Well done! Now, walk out of here down cast and like you have had a proper telling off.” The boys saluted Honeysuckle before Honeysuckle un-did the charm and they pulled the door open and allowed it to shut with a satisfactory bang.
“Let’s just hope that all of this is worth the trouble myself and others have gone to,” mused Honeysuckle was she made her own way to her dorm.
