Chapter Six

“They all lied to me!” Ron exclaimed, walking in past Harry who was struggling to figure out just whom his friend was talking about. “All three of them!”

“What are you talking about?” he asked as he shut the front door.

“Lavender and the twins,” he said turning to face him. “They lied to me! Ginny fed them a truth potion and they all confessed that they got knocked up by other blokes, but they grabbed me because I was a war hero!” He looked around in the rooms near by. “Where is Hermione? I need to talk to her, tell her that I want her back.”

“She and Sirius went to see a healer this morning,” Harry said. “I doubt they’ll be back any time soon.”

Frowning he asked, “Why did they go to a healer? Is she sick?”

Harry resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Ron was a smart, but there were moments the boy could be very thick headed. Remus came out of the kitchen, slipping his arm over Harry’s shoulder.

“What are you doing here, Ron?” he asked casually.

“I came to talk Hermione into coming back to me,” he answered, frowning at how Harry was leaning into the older werewolf. “Turns out that all three of the girls lied about me being a dad.”

“That is a shame,” Remus murmured. “But better to find out now than after you took vows.”

Ron nodded and was about to say something else when the door slammed open. Sirius carried Hermione over the threshold, both grinning happily.

“You are?” Harry cried out.

“You did?” Remus joined in.

“No, but that’s okay as we are going to keep practicing at the baby making and yes!” Hermione answered, laughing as Sirius set her down on her feet.

She held her hand out to Harry who smiled broadly, pulling her into a bear hug. Still smiling he went over to Sirius and hugged him as well. Harry had tears in his eyes as he went back over to Remus.

“They’re married!” he cried. “I wanted to be there!”

“What?” Ron was stunned. How could Hermione even think about wanting an old man like Sirius over him? “But…”

“Ron, we need to talk,” Harry said. “I’ll be back for the celebration in a moment!” He pulled him off to the other room, shutting the door firmly behind himself. “Ron, they got married. Do not open your mouth and spoil it
for them. They love each other and Sirius would kill you if you tried anything.”

“But he’s so old!” he exclaimed. “What does he have that I don’t have?”

“Respect for her, fidelity, and love,” Harry replied automatically. “In other words, he would never in a million years do what you did to her by cheating with Merlin knows how many women.”

He sighed heavily and muttered, “I guess you’re right.”

Hermione shrank the last of her luggage and pocketed it in the new buttery soft dragon hide jacket Sirius bought for her to wear on the honeymoon trip. She smiled to herself as she went down the stairs and out the door.
Harry and Remus were still upstairs in their room asleep. The thought of her best mate finally finding Mr. Right had her smiling happily to herself. She heard the roar of the motorcycle engine and saw as Sirius pulled up to the curb.

“Well?” she asked him as she walked over to join him as he was pulling his helmet off to converse with her.

“She’s purring like a kitten,” he replied. “You took good care of her.”

“That I did,” she murmured, slipping onto the bike behind him. “But does it mean I get to drive her any time soon?”

“I will think about it,” he teased, making her slap his side. “Before we get going, luv, and we have to cover our heads with these helmet—Are you ready?”

“For what?” she asked.

“A family?”

She thought it over. “You, Remus, and Harry are my family. To say I’m ready for any of you is, well, silly. Marauders for life, hmm?” That had him chuckling. “I say we keep practicing for the baby marauders and when we are so blessed, I will be happy. But prepared?” She laughed. “No, I think not, but…” He turned to face her and saw a look of absolute wonder on her face. “What an adventure it will be.”

Laughing they pulled on their helmets and drove off into the wild purples and blues of a braking dawn.
