Chapter 6: Of Gryffindor and Slytherin
Griphook lead Harry and Draco through the two huge golden doors back to Gornuk, Griphook's assistant. He turned to Harry and Draco then, looking them both over. "Mr. Potter, Mr. Gornuk will take you to your vaults as you requested. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Gornuk, or me, at once. What we have spoken about in that conference room is strictly between we three. I will handle all the dirty details about what has happened, while hiding the fact that you two know anything about it. I will handle the auror’s, and the investigation, as if it was I who was the one to uncover everything. That should buy you some time to contact the certain people that you will need by your side. Certain ones you already know. Now though, I must take my leave, and give you over to my trusted assistant. Mr. Gornuk, please escort Misters Potter and Malfoy to their vaults". With that, Griphook gave a small bow and walked into one of the offices behind the left hand counter.
"Mr. Potter, Mr. Malfoy, if you would, please follow me", stated Gornuk as he turned; walking to the large doors that led to the caverns under the bank.
Harry and Draco boarded the trolley, both sitting in the back seat behind the goblin. The trolley then sped off down the iron rails to the new Malfoy-Potter vault, it being the closest. On the way, Harry leaned into Draco and asked, "Draco, are you all right"?
"Yes, Harry, just a bit overwhelmed is all. I just don't know how to thank you". Draco sincerely explained.
"Draco, you deserve it, and you’re a Black by blood. You are not with that inbred, insane, nastily sickening creature that claims to be a lord. When I'm done, I will see that all his funding routes are cut off at the knees. It takes money to fight a war, and if he has none, it will cripple him quicker. He was poor when he started this, and he will be so when I finish it"! Harry exclaimed in a low voice to Draco's ear.
Draco had a small shiver run down his spine when Harry's warm breath caressed his ear. He had to close his eyes for a moment while the sensation overpowered him. He then turned to look at Harry who was only mere inches away from being nose to nose with him. With unshed tears in his eyes; the only word he could mumble out was one, "Thanks".
Looking into those gray-blue eyes, Harry found himself leaning forward. When his lips was only a small space apart from Draco's.... "The Malfoy-Potter Vault, number 1333, pass the lantern please". Gornuk spoke, turning around in his seat, and taking in the site before him.
Harry and Draco quickly jumped back, both young men’s faces turning a bright shade of pink. Harry gave a small cough like he was clearing his throat, and finally looked at the goblin. "Oh, er, yes, sorry about that Mr. Gornuk, I was a bit distracted. The lantern, yes, the lantern, hold on a second". Harry said as he was trying to wiggle the lantern loose from its holder. Being a bit nervous did not help at all, Harry thought. Finally loose of its holder, he quickly handed the lantern to the goblin.
Following Gornuk out of the trolley, Draco gave the goblin his new key. The goblin then opened the vaults door, allowing both Draco and Harry entrance. Both looked at the pile of gold that had been replaced, filling up Draco's coffers again. Draco also noticed all of his personal items had already been moved into the new vault. There were two suits of armor, some medieval weaponry, several large trunks, and other assorted boxes containing heirlooms, etc. There were two Flails mounted on the wall, the balls dangling down from their chains, the handles crossing each other in an X. Draco thought about how he would like to wear them out over his aunt Bellatrix, and across Voldemort’s face. This vision caused Draco to smirk. He then filled his moneybag with 1000 galleons, and would get some exchanged into Muggle pounds when they went back up to the bank proper. With this, Draco and Harry turned and left the vault. They boarded the trolley with Gornuk, and headed on down deeper in the cavern to the Potter and Black heirloom vaults.
"Vault number 680, the Potter Heirloom vault, please step this way". The small goblin said as he stepped off the trolley. Harry stepped forward, waiting on the goblin to tell him what to do next. "Mr. Potter, a deposit of your blood is in order". Harry quickly looked at Draco for what to do.
Draco reached into his robe sleeve and pulled his wand. He took Harry's hand and made a small cut on his palm. "Now Harry, go over and place your hand on the vaults door. Go on". Draco said giving him a nudge with his hand on the small of Harry's back.
Harry stepped forward, placed his hand on the door, and allowed his blood to come into contact with it. The door started to glow with a faint blue colour, startling Harry, who quickly stepped back. Draco took his hand and healed the cut, then gave the hand a gentle squeeze that made Harry look at him a little nervously. "Th-th-thanks Draco". Harry stuttered out, clearly embarrassed. He couldn't help it, so he gave Draco a lop-sided smile while squeezing his hand back. By this time the glow faded, as the blood disappeared into the large iron door. The tumblers could be heard rolling over, and there was a loud 'clack', then the door swung slowly open. Harry walked forward hesitantly at first, still holding Draco's hand, and finally stepped inside, bringing Draco with him. When they were both inside, torches lit all around the walls, allowing them to take in the sudden sight. Inside was a large cavern that was probably sixty feet wide, and over one hundred feet deep. The walls were lined with shelves, two stories high, containing boxes, jewelry, pictures, and many books. In the middle were several tables that were piled high with many items. In the other floor space, there were many large boxes and trunks of different sizes, but one thing though stood out in the main center of the huge room. A single column of granite stood waist high with a small wooden jewelry chest sitting on top of it. Harry immediately walked over to it. He didn't have a key, so he was hesitant in what to do in order to open it.
Draco slowly stepped forward at Harry’s confusion, "Harry, just place your hand on the box, and it should open for you as you’re the heir".
Harry did as he was told, and lightly placing his hand on top of the chest. The latch automatically flipped up while the lid opened upward of its own accord. "They're rings inside Draco, three of them".
Draco looked inside and saw that they were signet rings with the family crests in the center. One had a highly stylized P engraved inside a shield in its center. The other two though floored Draco, as in their center was the crests of Godric Gryffindor, and Salazar Slytherin. These were the same rings used to seal official letters and documents, just like the Potter ring. Draco couldn't breathe and began to shake all over. He grabbed Harry's robe, doing his best to steady himself, but finally he had to sit down before he fell. Harry quickly took his arm and helped him to squat down on the floor. Harry kneeled beside him, looking Draco over, while trying to see if he was all right.
"Draco, are you ok, what's wrong"? Harry questioned hurriedly with a concerned voice. Draco just stared at him, acting like he was trying to gasp for air but couldn't. Finally, Harry placed a hand on each shoulder and gave him a small, but firm, shake. "Draco, snap out of it, what's wrong with you"?
"Ha-Ha-Harry". Draco stuttered, taking a big swallow, and inhaled a huge of breath. He looked Harry in the eye like he had never seen him before, and tried to explain, "The rings Harry, the rings"!
"So, what's wrong? They’re just some old rings Draco". Harry explained.
Draco shook his head frantically. "No, no, Harry, no they’re not! Those are signet rings Harry, signature rings, do you understand? They’re for the head of the family Harry! Each heir uses them to seal important documents and letters. The head of the family wears those at all times to show their status. Harry, one of those is the Potter signet ring. The other two..." Draco trailed off looking at Harry, and trying to see if he understood. He cursed Harry's muggle upbringing over this. "Harry, the other two belong to..." Draco took another huge breath, "They belong to the heir of Godric Gryffindor, and Salazar Slytherin Harry, and that heir is you"! Draco, finally spitting it all out, while trying to see if it all sank into Harry's dense skull.
Harry looked at Draco like he was crazy, and then it hit him. Harry fell back on his bum, wide eyed, and looked like a pole axed steer. He opened his mouth and shut it several times as if trying to say something, but it just wouldn't come out. Finally when it did, it poured out, "That’s just great, just fucking great! Here's another thing to make me MORE different, MORE odd, and MORE like a freak"! Harry hung his head, shaking it, while trying to figure this all out.
Draco quickly scooted across the floor, taking Harry's face in his hands, and forced Harry to look at him. "Harry Potter, don't you EVER let me hear you say that again, do you understand me! You are NOT different, you are NOT an oddity, and especially, YOU ARE NOT A FREAK! Do you hear me Harry? Anyone who has told you such as that is a bald face LIAR! Harry, I wish that I could be one-tenth the man you are". Draco ended with a smile and his eyes filled with nothing but pure admiration. He then pulled Harry into a hug and rubbed his back. "Harry you are not a freak, and you were never a freak in my eyes, never".
At this, Harry started to sob. He placed his head in the crook of Draco's neck and held on for dear life. After several minutes, and Draco soothing words, Harry finally composed himself somewhat. With his head still buried in Draco's neck, he explained, "I have never had anyone to tell me that in my entire life. While at the Dursley’s, I was constantly berated, and called a freak, or something abnormal. At school, I was always made the center of attention, and this attention I never wanted mind you. The ones I thought were my friends, I think were really with me because of my celebrity status. Ron fell out with me during the tournament, well you remember that, and it hasn't been the same since. Ginny's constantly after me, but I think that's nothing but hero worship. Hermione, I think she does care for me somewhat, but she's more Dumbledore’s pawn, since she's such a stickler for any rule. She can make me feel so small with only a few words, like I'm so stupid and dumb. All I want is to have true friends that see beyond that, that love me for me. I want to be just Harry, just Harry, a normal kid". With that, Harry pulled back, and looked into Draco’s eyes. Their faces were again, close together. Harry finally leant in, and his lips met the soft ones of Draco's.
Draco stiffened for a moment, surprised mostly, and then relaxed. He leaned into the kiss and started to really enjoy it. He moaned after he heard the same from Harry; who was kissing him with a look of pure bliss on his face. Harry ran his hands down Draco's sides, and Draco made a loud squeak through the kiss. This almost killed Draco, as ‘Malfoy's do not squeak’, he thought. Harry gave a small chortle into Draco's lips, and proceeded to nibble at Draco’s lower one. Draco opened his mouth, and their tongues met for the first time. They both battled each other for dominance while tasting and teasing each other’s mouth. Things were heating up very fast, and they both knew it. Finally, they had to break for air, or faint from lack of oxygen. Two loud gasps sounded as their lips parted, and each looked dazedly at the other.
"My God, that was incredible"! Exclaimed a very snogged Harry.
"Well thank you for calling me a God, but I'm only Draco"! Draco grinned.
"Git", Harry said playfully and sneaked another small feather light kiss. "I think we need to try that again after we get back to the Leaky Cauldron, what do you say"? Harry asked hopefully.
"This is one time that I totally agree with you Harry, and you know that's saying something"! Draco chuckled as he quickly stood and held out his hand, helping Harry to his feet.
"Draco, what am I supposed to do with these rings"? Harry wondered.
"Well, you wear them, all of them. If you are their heir, the rings will allow you to place them on your fingers, and if not, they won't" Draco explained. "I would put both of the Hogwarts heirship rings on your right hands little, and ring finger. Put the Potter one on your left hands little finger".
Harry proceeded to place the Potter ring on his left hand. Once it was slipped on his little finger, it resized itself and gave a warm feeling. He next tried Gryffindor’s ring on his right little finger. Surprisingly, it acted the same as the Potter one did. Last, came the ring that once belonged to Salazar Slytherin. He placed it on his right ring finger, and it also acted the same, thus sealing the heirship. Harry gave Draco a look that clearly wanted him to explain what he knew.
"Harry, clearly, both Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin are your ancestors. We need to find your family tree, and your family’s lineage book. My guess is that you are a Gryffindor through your father and the Potters, but I'm not sure about Slytherin. What about your mother? Even though she was a mu... muggle, she was born a witch, and magic is passed on by blood Harry. Any family tree will show both your parents ancestry going back several generations. However, to trace it as far back as the Hogwarts founders, you'll need to find your family’s lineage book. They can go back at least fifty generations, and sometimes more. It will also have the names, siblings, dates of birth, and death of everyone in your family. It automatically updates itself when someone is born or dies. The book works similar to the one at Hogwarts, which announces a new witch or wizard, so they can request their attendance at the school". Draco explained. "We need to find it before we leave today if nothing else".
Harry turned to Draco at this, "Draco, can you summon the book; is it possible? I don't want to use my wand anymore than necessary until the tracking spell is removed".
Draco held up his wand and spoke, "Accio Potter family lineage". Luckily, a large dusty old tome arose into the air off one of the tables, and sailed into Draco's outstretched hands. He then took the book over to a small-uncluttered table, which sat underneath a torch, so they could view the contents. They went quickly back through the Potter’s history, and sure enough, the line went up to a family named the Peverell’s. As a matter of fact, it went to Geoffrey Peverell marrying Antisis Gaunt. The Gaunt’s went back into the direct line of Salazar Slytherin. The Peverell’s went back to three brothers who were Ignotus Peverell, and would have be Harry's great-great many times over grandfather, and the father of Geoffrey. Ignotus had two brothers, Antioch and Cadmus. Their father, Marcus, had married the grand daughter of Godric Gryffindor, Lorianna. This proved that Harry was the heir to both of the Hogwarts founders. At the end of the book, it also tracked the Slytherin line to their day and time. They followed the marriages and births until they come upon Marvolo Gaunt. Antisis was Marvolo's great-great aunt. They saw that Marvolo had two children, Morfin and Merope. That's when both Harry and Draco gasped, as they found that Merope had given birth to Tom Marvolo Riddle, and had died the same day she had given birth. Young Tom's father was shown to be Tom Riddle Sr. who was listed as a muggle. Harry then looked at Draco and began to explain.
"Draco, Tom Riddle Sr. was who's grave stone I was tied to when Voldemort was brought back to life. Peter Pettigrew robbed Tom seniors grave to obtain a leg bone to use in the ritual. Tom Riddle Sr. is Voldemort’s father. He bragged about killing him, and his grandparents that night. Also, did you notice how inbred the Slytherin line was from Voldermort on back? There were several first cousins married, and even a brother and sister! Now that's just plain sick to go that far over this so-called pureblood pride". Harry explained as Draco nodded in agreement.
"That's most likely why Voldermort, or Tom Riddle Jr. is a total nutter. At least the Malfoy’s weren't that bad. There were a couple of first cousins, but no brothers and sisters, as that's just pure incest and nastiness." Draco stated sickly, shaking his head. "We will take this book with us, and you have the rings. Also, we still have to see the Black heirloom vault".
On the way back to the door, Harry spotted two books that he was interested in by the titles on their spine. One book was titled, 'Blood Magic, Light and Dark' by Maximillion Grader. The last one was titled, 'Wandless Magic, A Complete Treatise' by Phineas Nigellus Black, Sirius's great great something grandfather, and onetime headmaster of Hogwarts. Harry quickly took those two books, and had Draco shrink all three. He then put them in the pocket of his summer robes, and they left the vault. As Harry was just about to board the trolley, he checked the time, and it was already 2:30 in the afternoon. At this, Harry got the blond wizards attention. "Draco, would you care to call it a day, and come back in a few days to see the Black vault? It's 2:30 now, and I need to stop by the Daily Prophet yet. Plus, you need to exchange your gold for pounds, and I need to pick up the moneybag that I have waiting".
Draco thought about it quickly, and nodded, "That would be fine Harry. We need to get back to the room soon anyhow, and I want to tell you what all I saw in those memories. Mr. Gornuk, could you please take us back up"? At that, the goblin nodded, turned the trolley around, and headed back up to the bank.
When Harry and Draco were back inside the bank building, Griphook was waiting for them at the door. He handed Harry the moneybag containing the galleons and pounds he requested earlier, and took care of Draco's exchange for him. As the two young wizards stepped outside the bank, and into Diagon Alley, Harry cheekily announced, "Next stop, the Daily Prophet"! And with that, they were on their way, while walking side by side like they had been best mates for years.
Reviews:
harrydraco4life: Harry's not finished with Dumbledore and part of the Order yet. He's just now building up his head of steam.
Sneakyfox, and hieisdragoness18: Harry's nice at the moment because he's finally being treated like he wants. His nicety is about to end with several in the coming chapters. Not Draco or his aunt though. Draco won't be so nice either. They both have some revenge on their minds. It will grow darker before it grows lighter.
FallenAngel1129: Actually, the Malfoy’s in this story have just a little less money than Harry's combined estates. The vault Draco used was a trust vault like Harry's parents left him for school use until he's 17. Since Lucius controlled the purse strings for the Malfoy estate, he could rob his own son. As you can see, Lucius values money over his own flesh and blood. He did see fit to leave his precious dark lord a little dower.
To everyone else, thanks for all the kind reviews! As for updates, where I'm handicapped, and have a lot of doctors appointments here and there, it will be hit and miss on the days I can update. I will post them when their done, and I'm up to it. Thanks again!
