Chapter Six

The pair finally stopped running several minutes later in front of an expanse of blank wall that Harry knew quite well. Draco glanced around and noted that the only thing nearby was the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy on the opposite wall of the hallway. Confused and a bit frustrated, he turned back as his raven-haired schoolmate began his pacing.

The blonde frowned and watched Harry complete one lap past the blank wall before he said something.

“Harry, why are we here? Do you come here often just to pace in front on a blank wall? Shouldn’t we be…oh, I don’t know…hiding from Dumbledore?”

The other boy smirked as he continued to pace. He completed his second lap and began his final one.

Suddenly the door to the Room of Requirement appeared, and Draco took a step back.

Harry grabbed the handle and opened the door, and turned back in time to see Draco Malfoy looking very un-Malfoy like. He opened his mouth, closed it, almost began a sentence, but stopped short.

“Are you coming in, Malfoy?” Harry asked. His voice even held a note of concern for the pale Slytherin who stood gaping at him.

Draco would have answered, but the footsteps coming towards them held his voice again. He spun to face where they had come from, where suddenly Dumbledore and Ron had appeared.

Draco’s mouth went dry. He knew what lengths Dumbledore would go to to keep their agreement a secret from the Boy Savior. In fact, the old Wizard’s wand was raised and pointed at Draco at that moment.

Dumbledore was confident he could salvage the situation. Yes, the Malfoy boy had managed to get Harry to listen to him, and perhaps he had, somehow, found a way out of the legally and magically binding agreement they had signed, but nothing important had been told yet. Nothing that a good obliviate to Harry wouldn’t fix. And if Draco Malfoy conveniently disappeared for the remainder of his pregnancy, or perhaps forever, who would miss him? Surely not Harry, or the boy’s own parents. The Weasley’s were beyond loyal to Dumbledore, so he had no reason to think that young Ronald would cause him any trouble. No, this was easily fixed.

“Mr. Malfoy, I believe I asked you to come with me.” His wand trained on the blond young man who was still in the middle of the hallway. Harry was halfway in the Room of Requirement, but that didn’t bother Dumbledore any. His target was the Slytherin.

Draco finally caught his voice. “I’m dreadfully sorry Sir,” he said almost sarcastically. "Forgive me for fleeing the scene so rudely. How inconsiderate of me.”

The Professor would have nodded in agreement, if he had not heard the negating tone. “Indeed. However, I believe it would be best if you come with me now.” He said, subtly moving his wand in the motions for a proper body bind and summoning spell. There were no doubts in his head that the blonde wouldn’t come willingly.

Just as suddenly as the spell had fired itself off towards the blonde, another spell came flinging towards Dumbledore himself. Shockingly, he noted before he fell to the ground, that it had been Harry who had cast the breath stealing spell at him, and not only that, but he had done it wandlessly. His hand still was flung out towards his old mentor, glowing with residual power.

Not moments later, Ron’s wand was up and pointed at the person Harry intended to protect. Another flash of power almost blinded him, and he shielded his eyes with a hand until the burning of his eyes subsided. He looked up just in time to see Malfoy’s shocked face as his body practically flew into the Room of Requirement. Then to door slammed shut, and was gone.

Ron growled. He knew Harry well enough to know that he would find out what Dumbledore was up to. That meant he also had no reason to think he would see Harry again for at least several months. Harry was very protective of those he considered his own, and who would be more his own then the child created by his own seed?

His father would not be happy. Hell, Ginny would not be happy. She was expected to become the next Mrs. Potter, just as soon as Harry would let her. He had said after the war…but Ron very much doubted that would be now that Harry was in control of the situation.

The redhead with a temper looked down at the Headmaster he was sworn to follow, and was sorely tempted to kick him while he was down for being so careless with such carefully laid plans. Someone would have to pay for his family’s loss of future status.
