Chapter 6
Blinding Discoveries
Harry woke up the next morning and ignored the hunger surge, he wasn’t in the mood to eat, he was in the mood to take a walk. “Where are you going Harry?” Harry looked at Ron and smiled, “I’m not really hungry Ron, I am going to go take a walk.” He saw the confusion in Ron’s eyes, “I didn’t see you at any of the meals yesterday Harry, you have to be starving!” Harry fought back the blush and smiled at him. “Don’t worry, I snatched some things from the kitchen.”
Ron smiled and his shoulder’s sagged in relief. “Good! Had me worried there for a minute.” Harry laughed softly and walked out of the common room and started to slowly walk around, killing time before the first class. He didn’t really know why he didn’t go and eat, he just didn’t really feel like it, he wasn’t all that hungry anyway. Harry sighed as he started to walk toward his first class, not really wanting the day to be over, because tomorrow he had potion’s again…

When lunch came around Harry was all but dragged down to the great hall and was forced into his seat. “Come on, even if you aren’t hungry, you can at least sit down here and talk to us!” Ron said cheerfully and Harry nodded, putting on a fake smile. He joined in the conversation about Qudditch and how they were going to ‘cream’ Slytherin again. Harry didn’t even bother to put any food on his plate and yet again wanted to know why he just didn’t eat.
He shrugged the thought off, he was used to going a while without food, the Dursley’s made sure of that. Lunch was over quickly and Harry was glad, not wanting to pretend to be a part of the conversation any more. He followed Ron to Divination, dreading whatever horrible way Professor Trelawney would say he would die.

Harry ditched dinner and he wasn’t surprised when Hermione cornered him before he got out of the castle. “How are you feeling Harry?” She asked and Harry shrugged, “I guess I’m feeling ok, why?” He made sure his face was emotionless, not wanting to give anything away. “Because I haven’t saw you eat for the past two days.” Harry shrugged, “I’ve ate, don’t worry ‘mione, I’m just so busy studying and everything.” With that Hermione smiled happily, “Well it’s good that you are finally studying Harry! You should’ve told me though, I was starting to worry.” Harry gave her one of his ‘no need to worry’ smiles and walked out of the front doors and down to the embankment.
He took his cloak out of his pocket and put it beside him, knowing that he would be out past curfew again. Harry sat there for 10 minutes before he heard footsteps behind him, and then he realized that he had actually been waiting for Draco to come. Draco sat down next to him and neither of them said anything for a while, finally Draco broke the silence. “I heard that you can see magic now.” Harry nodded and looked at Draco. “I can see it in you, I can see these thin dark silver lines running through your veins.” To prove his point Harry traced on line all from Draco’s wrist all the way up to his shoulder blade.
Draco looked a little surprised and then smiled, “I bet I look sexy with them.” Harry rolled his eyes and looked back at the lake. “They add to the main feature.” Was all Harry said and the silence started up again. Draco chewed on his bottom lip thoughtfully, he didn’t come out here to sit and star at the lake, no matter how beautiful it seemed. “So…I haven’t saw you in the great hall lately.” Draco said conversationally and it took Harry a few minutes to reply. “I haven’t been hungry.”
Draco nodded, “So….I bet you are looking forward to Potions tomorrow.” Harry scoffed, “Just waiting in anticipation.” He mumbled and Draco laughed quietly. Draco still didn’t know how he could possibly let Harry know he was sincere in the friendship, he didn’t know how to make Harry loosen up around him. Finally Draco took a deep breathe, “The only reason my father stopped following Voldermort was because of me.” Harry’s head snapped over to look at him and Draco plowed on. “Voldermort wanted all of the people in the elite group to give him their first born children….something about how it would give him enough power to come back to life.”
Harry continued to star at Draco and Draco turned his look and settled his eyes on Harry’s. “In the end the Malfoy’s most important thing in life is family, not power. I was surprised to learn that.” The silence got thicker after that, and a little uncomfortable and Draco was beginning to think that maybe that wasn’t the best way to break the ice.
“He is better than I thought…even though I still don’t like him.” Draco looked a little offended and Harry rolled his eyes. “He tried to kill me every time he saw me Draco.” Draco laughed at that and Harry sighed. “I had forgotten…he made a public apology to you, it was in the daily prophet.” Harry cocked one eyebrow, “It was during the summer.” Draco said and Harry nodded, “I don’t get the daily prophet during the summers.”
Draco nodded, “Why?” Harry looked down at the ground. “Him being drunk wasn’t the only reason he shot me Draco…but I don’t want to talk about that right now, maybe…maybe some other time.” Draco suddenly felt a little surge of hatred for Harry’s relatives, true he disliked all muggles, but he never felt hatred for just a group of them, and now he did. “Whenever you are ready, I’ll be here.” Harry nodded slowly and tore his eyes away from Draco’s and put them back on the lake.
The sat like that for a while, both staring at the lake, watching the water move with the wind. Finally Draco stood up and stretched. “I’ll see you tomorrow Harry.” Harry nodded, but didn’t saw anything. Draco walked away, silently wondering how much longer Harry would stay out there.
Harry listened to Draco leave and then laid down on the grass. He looked up at the sky and was happy that it was a cloudless night, the stars looked beautiful. Harry drifted over the stars and suddenly he wanted to know if his parent’s could see him. He felt a trickle of emotion run through him, he suddenly wanted to talk out loud…wanted to talk to his parents. He took a deep breath, “I wish you could be here with me…I wish that I didn’t have to fight all of this alone. I wish that I could just be normal, and that you could’ve protected me from the Dursley’s. I wish that I could’ve saved Sirius, and I’m sorry I couldn’t Dad.
”I’m sorry that I let you all down so much, I wish I could fix it all, I wish I didn’t have to be alone.” Harry wasn’t surprised to feel the tears fall down his face and he almost immediately felt stupid for talking to dead people. He turned over on his side and pulled the cloak over him and then curled up into a ball, just wanting everything to be over.
