Harry’s return to consciousness was slow. All of his limbs felt heavy and he was surrounded by lovely, safe warmth. He had almost decided that he didn’t want to move, and would be quite happy just to lie and sleep here forever, when something behind him moved.

That caught his attention, he was quite sure beds shouldn’t move like that. Nor should beds be blowing a warm breeze across that back of his neck. Harry shuddered agreeably at the sensations the breeze invoked, while his sleep muddled mind tried to explain its presence. Slowly Harry began to come round more as his brain shook off the pull of slumber. He realised with dawning alarm that it wasn’t the bed doing things that it shouldn’t be able to, but that there was a person curled up around him.

Harry froze, his heart beat accelerating. Who was it? Why were they in bed with him? He wracked his brains. How had he gotten into bed in the first place? Memories flooded through him, and he cried out in alarm. Yanking himself out of the person’s arms and stumbling out of bed, he collapsed to his knees. Pain. So much pain, and a voice telling him just to let go, that it would be alright if he just let go.

Harry gave a choked sob.

Flashback

He remembered the moment that it become too much, he had pushed himself away from all of the hurt. His parents had been there, he realised. Sirius too. They had smiled, welcomed him.

Then there had been a pull and a desperate cry for him to come back, a warm energy calling him back to the world of pain. He had pulled away from it. Everything was effortless and perfect where he was, he didn’t want to go back to that level of uncertainty. But he felt the other’s despair, followed swiftly by a resolution for death that made Harry physically sick.

With a last longing look at his still smiling parents, Harry had gathered his power around him and sent himself plunging back down the link into darkness. The only thing in his mind was stopping the idiot about to kill himself.

The agony was unimaginable, but he didn’t have time for it. He shoved his magic towards the hurt as hard as he could, hoping to form some sort of barrier between it and him. However, his magic seemed to have other ideas. The pain began to reduce as more and more magic was pulled from him. Eventually the pain stopped and he managed to gain enough control to open his eyes.
There was Itachi, pale faced, eyes wide with shock, and a kunai in hand. A wave of irritation flooded through Harry. What did he think he was doing? Harry gave him a piece of his mind. Itachi looked stricken. Content that Itachi wasn’t going to do anything stupid Harry had allowed the blackness that had been licking at his consciousness to wash over him, and he knew no more.

End Flashback.

Harry took deep breaths trying to stop hyperventilating. He had died. He had died and come back again. Come back because that idiot had tried to kill himself.

With that though firmly in his head he stood and turned abruptly to where Itachi was sitting up on the bed looking rumpled and slightly confused. Which was not surprising considering he had just been woken abruptly from a deep sleep. Eyes blazing, Harry crossed the space between them in a single stride and brought his palm crashing down on Itachi’s cheek.

“How dare you.” Harry yelled.

“How DARE you. You almost killed yourself. What were you thinking? Of all the idiotic . . . juvenile . . . dramatic . . .” Harry couldn’t seem to find the words to articulately his feelings properly.

He was just sucking in a deep breath to have another go at verbally attacking Itachi when he was cut off by two arms pulling him abruptly against a hard chest and a hot mouth crashing across his own.

He struggled against the kiss for a moment before giving in and responding with equal fervour, allowing each of them comfort the other with the knowledge that they were both still there.

Eventually when air was getting short they reluctantly pulled away. Harry stared into dark eyes and felt his heart thump oddly.

“I thought you were dead.” Itachi said hoarsly.

“I though you had died in my arms and I had done nothing to save you.” Harry saw more emotion then he had ever seen before Itachi’s face as he choked the words out.

“You called me back.” Harry whispered. “I was gone, but I heard you. I came back because of you.”

Harry brought his hand up to the cheek he had previously struck and leaned in to slant his mouth gently over Itachi’s. He poured all the reassurance he could into the kiss, revelling in the tremors running through the body against his.

He didn’t know how long they sat like that wrapped up in each other. Kiss after kiss some short, sweet and chaste others long and desperate as if the would never let go. They just sat drowning in one another, happy to be alive.

Mikoto was sitting in the kitchen when she heard the commotion upstairs. She smiled to herself. Well it was about time those two woke up; they had slept all through yesterday and well into this morning. She busied herself making fresh cups of sweet jasmine tea, before walking briskly up the stairs. Peeking into her eldest son’s room she smiled. They had obviously settled whatever the shouting had been about.

It was wonderful that her son had found someone that he would let down his shields down for. She had become increasingly worried that Itachi would end up married off ‘for the good of the clan’ and be stuck in a loveless relationship, becoming colder and colder. She giggled slightly to herself; it didn’t look like that would be happening after all.

With a grin that proved she was only an Uchiha by marriage, not by birth, she flung the door wide open and had to stop herself from laughing out loud from the look of undisguised horror that crossed Itachi’s face as he broke away from the petite dark haired lad. It was not often she managed to sneak up on her son. Shocking him into such an open display of emotion was even less common.

She watched in amusement as he quickly schooled his face into an emotionless mask and moved so he was sitting slightly in front of the other lad in a blatantly protective stance.

“Mother.” Itachi addressed her formally in a toneless voice, only a slight clenching of his hand betraying his worry.

Mikoto, however, had much better things to do then have a word match with her stoic eldest son. She swept into the room and right up to Harry.

“Well aren’t you a pretty one. I can see why he’s quite taken with you. I am Mikoto, Itachi’s mother. What’s your name?” She kept her voice warm and smiled at the nervous looking lad.

A small grin broke across the boy’s face in return.

“I am Harry. It is very nice to meet you.” Harii said in a polite tone of voice.

“Well Harii,” Mikoto said, delighting at him being such a sweet boy, “I have just made some tea and was about to prepare some lunch. Are you hungry? Would you like something to eat?”

Harii opened his mouth to decline when he was cut off by his stomach giving a loud rumble. He blushed bright pink as Mikoto laughed in amusement. He then allowed himself to be led by the hand to the kitchen, after a quick trip to the spare bedroom to fetch him some more appropriate clothing. Mikoto swiftly prepared him, and a silent Itachi, lunch.

When everyone had eaten their fill, Mikoto excused herself, after requesting that Itachi bring Harii around to visit again. She left a bemused looking Itachi and a blushing Harii in the kitchen.

In the hall she bumped into Sasuke who was hovering nervously outside the kitchen. She ruffled his hair before pushing himself towards the door.

“Why don’t you go and say hello.” She murmured to her youngest. “He’s very nice.”

Sasuke looked at her solemnly for a moment before nodding and making his way into the kitchen.

Harry was feeling slightly shell shocked. Itachi’s mother was . . . well, she was fantastic. Better then all the imaginary mothers that he had invented in his long dark hours in the cupboard under the stairs. Even better then the real memories he had of Mrs Weasley though admittedly they were tarnished somewhat by the betrayal of all the Weasleys.

She had sat him and Itachi down and plied them with warm cups of tea and plenty of food. Gently teasing her son as they ate, and asking Harry easy to answer, non intrusive questions.

For the first time since he had heard Remus and Severus were missing in action, he felt the relaxation that comes from being around a trustworthy parental figure. So much so that when she got up and excused herself Harry felt a pang of regret at her going.

He was lost in his own thoughts when he felt Itachi tense beside him. Turning around, he saw a small dark haired boy hovering in the doorway. The lad was pale and looked noticeably nervous. Which was not surprising, Harry realised, when he saw the dark glare that Itachi was levelling at the child.

Harry laid a hand on Itachi’s arm and gave him a reproachful look when he turned to see what Harry wanted. Then, satisfied that Itachi wasn’t going to do anything he would later regret, Harry fixed a gentle smile on his face and beckoned the child over.

Sasuke made his way cautiously to the table, making sure to stay out of reach of his older brother, who was evidently displeased with him. Instead he turned his focus to the beautiful boy he had thought was an enemy nin yesterday.

“I’m sorry.” Sasuke blurted the words out, horrified to find that his eyes were stinging slightly. “I’m very sorry.”

“It’s all right little one. As you can see I’m alright now. I’m Harry. What is your name?” Harry gave the little boy a sweet smile, trying to look as reassuring as possible.

“Sasuke.” He managed to blurt it out, without bursting into tears. Which was just as well because Uchiha’s never cried, especially not in front of others.

A glance at his brother let Sasuke know that, while Harry may have forgiven him, Itachi did not feel such a compulsion.

Harry noticed the glare that had re-emerged on Itachi’s face, and looked thoughtful for a moment.

“You can’t still be angry when I’ve forgiven him.” Itachi was slightly thrown of guard when Harry stated this, as he had geared himself up to not forgiving Sasuke for quite a while. Before he could protest however, Harry was rambling on.

“In fact you both are going to have to talk to each other and settle your differences.” Harry said imperiously.

“In the mean time I’m going to go and look for the child I came here to find in the first place.”

And with that Harry swept out of the kitchen, pausing briefly to ruffle Sasuke’s hair, and out onto the street, leaving behind a shocked Itachi, and an apprehensive Sasuke.

Once he had gotten away from the house, he ignored the slightly bemused looking people around him, and dropped his empathy shields. It took a minute to locate the mind of the child he was looking for. After finding him, Harry set off resolutely in the direction of the boy, determined that there would be no more set backs in his plans.

Back in the kitchen a pensive looking Sasuke turned back to his brother.

“Itachi-niisan . . . Harii-san sure is bossy isn’t he?” Then after a thoughtful pause, “I like Harii-san.”

Itachi, to Sasuke’s relief, gave a small smirk and flicked Sasuke’s forehead. Evidently Sasuke was forgiven after all.

“Hn . . .”

“Who’s Harii-san going to find?” Sasuke asked.

Itachi’s smirk widened and he stood up, before swinging Sasuke up onto his back.

“Let’s go find out.”

Naruto was wandering through town. His Landlord had kicked him out, telling him not to come back until night fall, and he didn’t want ‘a little trouble maker’ hanging around.

He tried to keep his head down and ignore the glares he was getting from the villagers. Normally he would be running around or planning his next prank. But recently the dreams he’d been having had been making him low spirited. Not to mention he had run out of food.

He would have to wait until one of the shopkeepers was in a very good mood before he went to stock up, or everything he bought would be ruined in some way. Until then he would be going hungry.

With this dreary thought in mind he wasn’t looking were he was going, and walked straight into a very solid object. He fell on his ass and instinctually but his hands up to defend against the blows he knew were coming. Eventually, when no-one had hit him, he looked up cautiously.

There looking right back at him was a pair of beautiful emerald eyes in a smiling face. The stranger put his hand out to help him up. After looking at it as if it might bite for a while, Naruto carefully grasped it and allowed himself to be pulled to his feet.

Standing there looking solemnly at the stranger who was still grasping his hand, Naruto suddenly had the feeling that his life was about to change dramatically.

Well I’m gonna end it here as it’s late, and I’m tired, I hope this slightly longer chapter made up for the pathetically short last one.

Please do review, not just alert, or favourite, it gives me much encouragement.
