A Week Later and Truth be told
A week later….
Hermione wasn’t feeling well. No that was an understatement of the century. The girls had spent the first week in the past doing fairly well. Hermione found out that Remus was dating a young girl named Caroline who was a Ravenclaw sixth year and that Sirius really was the Gryffindor playboy, while James was trying to woo Lily and Peter was taking a liking to Luna. Finding out about Remus having a girlfriend kind of bummed Hermione out she tried to stay clear when she seen him with his girlfriend. A cute brunette with rosy lips and dressed nicely, she was a bookworm and together they studied in the library. Although she studied by herself at a different table she couldn’t help but watch the two interact with each other and deep down inside she was lonely. Sometimes she would catch herself daydreaming about what she would like to do to Lupin but kept shook the thoughts from her mind. She wasn’t the type to break up relationships so she would just torment herself like she had been for the past year after she found out that Remus was dating Nymphadora Tonks.
The reason for Hermione’s sickness was mainly due to nerves. Tonight she should have been transforming in her time and she’s a little worried that something might happen tonight. It’s a Saturday so she doesn’t have to worry about school but it’s also a Hogsmeade weekend and she wants to hang out with the girls. She over heard the Marauders talking about going with their dates and since the only one she would want to go with male wise is Remus and he’s going with Caroline so she would rather go alone.
She gets out of bed feeling a little week and tired but no doubt due to the time of day. Ginny and Luna were still asleep so she decided to take this opportunity to get ready for the day. She entered the Loo to relieve herself and start the shower. As she waited for the water to warm up she took time to brush her teeth and look at herself in the mirror. She wasn’t plain like she used to be. Her bushy brown hair now hung in curls on her head and was more manageable then it use to be. It was all in thanks to the many charms she found in Witch Weekly that she could manage her hair and she used muggle products to keep her face smooth and a glamour charm to hide only the scares that she had received due to her transformation. She never thought of herself as pretty but the girls told her that she was just as pretty as some of the girls in Gryffindor like Lavender and Parvati. Just thinking of them made her skin crawl. They were the type of girls that would hang all over a wizard to get attention. Ginny, Luna and herself were no where like that and because they didn’t do such things the guys didn’t really give them the time of day. Maybe things would have been different if she hadn’t of allowed herself to be bitten back in third year. She wouldn’t keep herself standoffish from the boys and maybe Harry and Ron would have continued to be her friend they no longer hung out with her like they use to. However it didn’t stop them from coming to her looking for help on their homework and she would help but not as much as she use to. She didn’t pressure them to do their homework mainly because she didn’t care if they failed or not anymore. If they wanted to be Aurors then they would have to buckle down and do the damn work in order to get the grades needed to get into the training. If they hadn’t of stop being her friend they would have the appropriate grades she would have seen to it. As it is they were just going to have to get on their own.
She finished her musing of the pass and stripped down and stepped into the shower glorying in the feel of the almost hot water running down her back hitting her muscles just the right way. She stood under the jets of hot water with a clear mind and just became lost in the moment. She didn’t know how long she had been standing there when she heard a knock on the door and Luna’s voice on the outside.
“Oi, Hermione! How much longer are you going to be? I need to pee.” She said her voice sounding urgent.
“It’s ok Luna the door is unlocked come on in.” Hermione replied and she heard a grunt and the door easing open.
“Thanks! I didn’t know how much longer I could have held it.” Luna said with a distressed giggle.
“Not a problem. I was just letting the hot water hit my back muscles. There a little sore today.” Hermione replied as she began laving up soap and washing off and then began washing her hair.
Luna finished and walked out the door to wait for her turn in the shower.
“Your welcome to join me Luna I’m almost done.” She heard Hermione called out so instead of leaving she decided she would join. Taking off her clothes she stepped in with Hermione and together they washed off. Hermione finished up and stepped out and soon Ginny stepped in and that is where Hermione left them. She knew that the two girls enjoyed showering together and she didn’t mind joining in with them but since she was already done she might as well get dried off and dressed before making her way to the common room.
When she finished dressing and applied her charms for her hair and glamour for her scars she walked down the stairs to what she thought would be an empty common room but found that the Marauders were already up and dressed and sitting in the corner talking quietly to themselves. Noticing there were no where to sit that wouldn’t look like she was eavesdropping she decided to walk over to a table in the corner and sit. She didn’t seat in the chair she sat on top of the table and wait for Ginny and Luna.
While she waited she tried to concentrate on anything that wasn’t her impending transformation. She didn’t know for sure if she was going to transform but she did know that she felt like she normally would. Her muscles were sore, her sense of smell had increased along with her sight and hearing. Not that she didn’t have great hearing and such normally since becoming a werewolf however it was magnified when she is about to transform. She felt sick to her stomach so she might not stick around in the Great Hall for breakfast she might just nick some toast and go outside by the lake. She still hadn’t spoken to Remus about her being a werewolf but she felt that it would be just too awkward at the moment considering they had just met.
Her train of thought was interrupted by Ginny and Luna giggling as they walked down the stairs to the common room to find Hermione sitting alone waiting for them. The three girls smiled and left the common room. Ginny and Luna never noticed that the Marauders had followed, however Hermione did and she decided to ask the girls some revealing questions.
“So Ginny what do you think about Sirius?” Hermione asked innocently.
“I don’t know really. I think he’s a jerk for what he obviously did to his friend but then I also think he’s fucking sexy as hell. To bad he’s a fucking playboy though.”
“So you like him?” Hermione asked again innocently.
“Uh…Yeah! Obviously! But like I said he’s a playboy. There’s no telling how many girls he’s had and I don’t want to be just some notch on his bedpost. What about you? I noticed you haven’t been able to take your eyes off of Remus. How do you feel about him?” Ginny asked back getting the idea that their conversation wasn’t entirely private only to be confirmed when Hermione blushed and looked at one of the paintings.
“Well you know…we seem to have a lot in common.” Hermione replied quietly
“Yeah like Lycanthrope!” Ginny whispered as she grabbed Hermione’s arm and made her stop to look at her. “When are you going to tell him? You can’t keep it a secrete for long Mione. He’s going to figure it out soon enough considering he’s going to be looking the same way as you.”
“Don’t you fucking think I know that? I want to tell him, really I do but it’s hard subject to talk about.” Hermione replied not caring that she had raised her voice and can be heard.
“What do you want me to do Gin? Huh? Walk up to him and say hey I’m a werewolf? He would probably run for the hills. Look I might be a Gryffindor but I don’t seem to be brave enough to admit that I’m weak.” She paused for a moment and looked at the floor before looking at Ginny and Luna. “And right now I’m really weak and sore and my head wants to explode.”
“Ok let’s get you to the Great Hall and get you something for your stomach. Do you think you can make it that far? You can always wait for us and we can bring something to you. Do you want to go back to the dorm and lay down? Ginny said looking her over and finding that Hermione did look a little pale.
“I think I’m going to head back to the common room. If you can nick some toast and pumpkin juice for me that would be appreciated.”
She nodded to both girls before walking back towards the tower intent on lying back down and sleeping in the rest of the day. However she only got a few feet before she slumped down to her knees trying to catch her breath the feeling of nausea and dizziness making an appearance as well and she just didn’t know if she would be able to move to get back up. So she sat there trying to regain control of her bearing when suddenly she felt two arms under her shoulders trying to help her back up. She tried to fight off the help she didn’t want to look weak to whoever it was that was trying to aid her however she stopped when heard them whisper in her ear.
“Just let me help Hermione.” The statement was clear and as she turned to look over her shoulder she seen that the voice belonged not that she didn’t already know but it was just confirmed what she thought earlier. Remus Lupin stood behind her wanting to help her to the tower so no one else would see her in the state that she was in obviously she was right in thinking that he had heard the conversation between her and Ginny the look he had only gave it away. She worked on standing up and when it looked like she wasn’t going to make it he picked her up bridal style and walked the rest of the way to the tower.
When he arrived he called out the password which happened to be “Mandragora”. He walked over to the couch and carefully laid her down and stepped back looking at her not really knowing what to say. He couldn’t have heard right could he. She laid facing the back on the of the couch and he thought for a moment she had fallen asleep so he started to slip up the staircase to grab a blanket for her. But as he reached the bottom step to continue up he heard her.
“How much did you hear Remus?” He turned towards her and was meet with amber eyes looking back at him looking like a little kid getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar. This wasn’t a conversation that Hermione was really ready for but they might as well.
“What?” he replied looking back at her with concern. “I heard you and your sister arguing about telling someone something.”
“And that’s all you heard? I highly doubt it. Ginny and I weren’t exactly quiet.” She stopped when he looked away and smiled sadly. He did hear them after all she thought.
“You of all people should know how hard it is to talk about illness Remus. How long did it take you to tell your friends about you?”
He turned back to her sadness in his eyes. “I didn’t tell them. They figured it out on their own and informed me about it.” They both smiled Hermione imagining how they told him and him remembering how they told them.
“At first only Ginny knew and she stood by me from my healing till now and she’s very defensive as you seen the first day. Luna has an inner eye so to speak. Not that she’s into divination or anything but she can see things differently then others. See their soul almost and soon made a comment that changed our friendship forever “Don’t worry Hermione your secret is safe with me.”
That was a year after my attack. Then Pansy about a year ago to say that she and I were friends before would be a lie. Pansy and I hated each other more then life itself. But she overheard Luna and Ginny in the library talking about meeting with me that night and the location where I transformed and Pansy not knowing what she would find ventured down to catch me out after curfew. However it wasn’t me that she found and if Ginny and Luna hadn’t come when they did she would have been dead. After that she offered to keep my secret if Ginny and Luna taught how to be an animangus and so that’s me in a nutshell.”
She then sat up on the couch and began to stare at the empty fireplace.
Remus considered the girl for a moment and then walked over to sit next to her. They sat together in silence for what seemed like an hour but was only twenty minutes. That’s when he turned towards her and looked at her .Really looked at her. She wasn’t beautiful not like some of the girls that resided at Hogwarts but she was very pretty in a natural since. She didn’t wear an unholy amount of makeup just enough to bring out the color of her skin and she smelled of Jasmine and Vanilla which was his favorite.
“How did you get bitten?” He asked hoping she wouldn’t be offended she so far told him how she became friends with the girls but not mentioned the actual attacked. “How old were you?”
She took a deep breath and sighed. This was always a sore spot for her. She wanted to tell him but she couldn’t tell him who it was that bit her she feared he would run away or think she’s full of shit which she wouldn’t blame him in the least bit.
“Well it was the end of my third year and I had recently figured out that our defense professor was a werewolf. But he was such a kind and gentle man that I didn’t want him to be fired if word got out so I kept my mouth shut. Harry, Ron and I were out on the grounds when we ran into some trouble and the Professor came to our rescue only thing was that it was also time for the moon to make an appearance and Harry got trapped and was bitten. I couldn’t handle it, he was my best friend and he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and I didn’t want him to be looked at differently so I used a time-turner and went back far enough to distract the werewolf and in the process I was bitten. Not long after that Harry and Ron stopped talking to me. Harry because he felt guilty because it should have been him and Ron because he was Harry’s best mate. But Ginny who is Ron’s little sister, she stood by me from then till now. Harry’s godfather taught her how to be an animangus and when Luna came around Ginny taught her.”
She went quiet for a moment and stared off into space remember at time when Harry, Ron and herself did unspeakable things like the Chamber of Secretes and the Philosopher’s Stone episodes. Those were things that she sorely missed but she was fine now.
“Why did you do it?” he asked quietly. If she wasn’t a werewolf she would have missed it. But she was a werewolf and so she did hear it. She turned her head to look at him thoughtfully.
“Wouldn’t you if it was your best friend? Like I said Harry has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Everyone looks at him for guidance in a world of madness and if world got out that he was bitten by a werewolf people would be in fear of him. I couldn’t stand back knowing I could change his fate and help him.”
“Knowing what would happen afterwards would you have then gone back in time to save him from this fate?”
“Knowing now that the results of me helping him would mean losing my friendship with him and Ron and suffer the rest of my life changing into a werewolf every month? Yes I would still have done what I did because I’m as the sorting hat said am a Gryffindor and we don’t back down from a challenge…ever.” She replied softly not taking her eyes off of Remus.
“Remus I’m a little tired and I think I’m going to go up to my dorm room and get some sleep. Why don’t you go to Hogsmeade and have a wonderful time with your girlfriend? “I’ll be there Hermione. You can share the Shrieking Shack with me. And then we can explore the forest and caves in the area.”
“Thank you Remus.” She whispered back at him. She pulled back and kissed him softly on the check then smiled up at him. She said her goodbye and walked slowly up the stairs to her room smiling about finally getting that weight off her chest.
Remus watched her leave he suddenly felt giddy. He smiled as he placed his hand on the place she had kissed him and watched her walk up the stairs. He then turned towards the portrait hole and left the castle Caroline far from his thoughts he had to find the guys….
~~Well here is my newest page. I appologize for taking so long. I had it written three times and it didn't come out right to me. So here is what I finally came up with.. That Ginny is a sneaky devil I tell you LOL~~
