Chapter 6
Potions and Killing Curses
Chapter 6
For a week Severus stayed in bed just as Poppy ordered. Even though he wasn’t the best patient. He was now up and walking around. His back was completely healed now. He and Hermione had gotten even closer. They were currently sitting out the back porch watching as a steady rain fell over the grounds.
“I hate this.” Severus sighed.
“Hate what?” Hermione asked.
“Just sitting around and not being able to help,” he answered.
“Oh Severus. Soon we will be helping and in a big way. The potion ingredients will be arriving in about two weeks and then we get started on the potion. That is the best way for us to help the Order to defeat Voldemort once and for all,” she said as she took his hand in hers.
“You’re right Hermione. I just feel so helpless is all,” he replied.
Hermione placed her head against his shoulder. Severus wrapped his arm around her, holding her close. A few minutes later Hermione stood up. She turned so she was facing him, then sat in his lap so she was straddling him.
“What are you…” Severus started.
He gasped when she leaned foreword and pressed her lips to his. He froze for only a second before he held her tightly and returned the kiss. Hermione’s fingers began to tangle in his hair, her fingernails grazing his scalp. He moaned and deepened the kiss.
“Severus,” she sighed when they pulled away.
“Where did you learn to kiss like that,” he gasped.
“I don’t know. I’ve never kissed anyone like that before,” she answered.
Severus leaned foreword and kissed her again. This time the kiss was soft and tender. Both letting their feelings of love flow through the kiss. Both holding onto each other. Knowing that their love was the only thing keeping them grounded in the chaos that swirled around them.
“Hermione, we had better stop,” he groaned as he pulled away.
“You’re right. I mean, I want you Severus, don’t doubt that, but I don’t think I’m quite ready for that step just yet,” she sighed.
Severus nodded. He pulled her closer and just held her. Hermione wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face in the crook of his neck. Just then, Celest popped onto the porch.
“I’s sorry to interrupt, but yous have a visitor.” Celest said.
“Who is it?” Severus asked in suspicion.
“It’s Dumbledore Master Severus.” Celest answered.
Hermione and Severus got to their feet and followed Celest. She led them into the living room. There Albus sat with a saddened expression on his face. He looked up when Severus and Hermione entered the room.
“Albus? What is it?” Severus asked in concern when he saw his old friend’s face.
“You two might want to sit down for this.” Albus said in a strained voice.
The two sat down. Celest brought in some tea and ginger snaps, then left again. Hermione quickly poured them all some tea then waited for Albus to speak.
“I…I just found out this morning that…12 Grimmwauld Place was discovered. Voldemort attacked and destroyed the house.” Albus said.
“Oh no. Was anyone there?” Hermione gasped.
“Yes. Molly, Bill, and Remus. They were killed. They put up a fight though.” Albus answered sadly.
“No! No! No! You’re lying!” Hermione screamed.
Hermione jumped to her feet and started toward Albus. Severus got up and grabbed her. She began pounding her fists against his chest. Screaming as she did so.
“He’s lying! Tell me he’s lying Severus! Please! They can’t be dead! Not Molly! Not Bill! Not Remus! Nooooo!” She screamed.
Severus just held her. Finally her knees buckled and they dropped to the floor. Severus rocked her like she was a toddler. Trying to ease her pain any way he could. He looked up and met Albus’s eyes.
“Have you told the rest of the Weasley family?” Severus asked.
“Yes. Arthur was one of the ones who discovered them. Charlie is on his way back from Romania. Fred and George are with Arthur right now, and Ron is in the hospital wing. Poppy had to sedate him after he heard. Harry is with him as well,” Albus answered.
“How…how is…Harry?” Hermione stuttered.
“He’s upset, but I believe he will get through this. Sirius will be talking with him later tonight,” Albus replied.
“Why? Why them?” Hermione cried as she buried her face in Severus’s chest once more.
“Sshh. It’s going to be all right love. I swear to you,” Severus whispered.
“I must be getting back. Floo me if you need anything for her,” Albus said.
Severus nodded. Albus patted Hermione’s shoulder, then left the room. Severus gathered Hermione into his arms and headed upstairs. He entered his bedroom and laid upon the bed. Cradling the love of his life in his arms.
“Severus…I…I can’t…handle this,” she sobbed.
“Yes you can Hermione. We will avenge them. I swear on my life, they will be avenged,” Severus said.
Hermione eventually cried herself to sleep. Severus continued to hold her. He knew how close she was to the Weasleys as well as Remus. True, he wasn’t fond of the werewolf, but he didn’t deserve to be killed by the Death Eaters. Severus only hoped that this tragedy would make Harry stronger as well as Hermione and the rest of the Order.
“Cans Is do anythings?” Celest asked as she popped in.
“Not right now Celest. All we can do is be there for Hermione. She’s going to need our love and support right now,” Severus answered.
“Yes Master Severus. If yous needs me, just calls,” Celest said.
Severus nodded. Celest exited the room. Severus kicked off his shoes and readjusted himself and Hermione so they were more comfortable. He gently began stroking her unbound hair.
“Be strong my love. Everything will be all right. You’ll see,” he whispered as he held her close.
