The Truth about Percy
Sorry about the wait!
I was a bit behind on my up dating, my Beta helped me with a few parts that I had to rewrite and I’ve been having a busy few weeks. So I’m making it up to you by posting two at one time! Anyways here is the next chapter. Enjoy!
Chapter 6 The Truth about Percy
The morning I went in with Fred and George to work at the shop. I wanted to get the shop organized while I was in the mood to help out. I knew eventually the memories of cleaning at the orphanage would get too much and I would stop working as hard. I wanted to get as much done while I could and it was fun to see all of the twins’ inventions. I helped out during the morning getting all that I wanted to get done that day over with. An idea came to me after lunch; I remembered the others mentioning the other three sons Bill, Charley and Percy. Bill and Charley were sill part of the family; they just lived in another country and would be coming over for dinner real soon. Percy on the other hand split himself from his family and I wanted to see if I could get him back. I knew that it would most likely be far fetched but I had a positive look on life and felt that maybe he still loved his family. I didn’t tell the twins what I was doing only that I would be away from the shop during the afternoon and would be back before closing. I wanted it to be a surprise for the whole family and I also didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up if I couldn’t get him to come home. I flooed to the Ministry of Magic by using the basement fireplace here I asked where I could find Percy Weasley.
After walking down a few halls and up the elevator and down some more halls I finally found his office. I knocked waiting for admission. I made sure that I was wearing a nice business type outfit that I found if Ginny’s closet. I had a packet of paper and a self inking quill with me.
“Come in.” I heard a voice say through the door. I took a deep breath, gathering up my courage and opened the door.
“Hello, Mr. Weasley.” I said extending my hand trying to be as professional as I could. I did my best to imitate what I saw some of Mrs. Corellas’ clients do. He took it and gave it a small shake. “My name is Harriet Johnson. I am a reporter and helper for an up and coming newspaper, the Hogsmeade Review. I am writing an article about those that work in the Ministry and would like to interview you about your views of the Ministry and some personal aspects as well. I am very sorry I didn’t make an appointment beforehand but this is a last minute article. Are you willing to participate in my report?”
“Yes, Ms. Johnson, I would be flattered.” He said puffing out his chest some. I knew he thought that he was important and would get his chance to shine.
“Thank you. We will be starting off with your job and then go into more personal things.” I said as he nodded. I smiled and continued. “What exactly do you do in the Ministry of Magic?” As he answered my question I thought he seems to be a nice guy a bit tense and straight forwarded but nice. “That sounds fascinating. What are your opinions on the War?”
“I think that Harry is making everything up.” I could see a twitch in his eyes as he said that indicating that he was lying. “I also think that Dumbledore is crazy thinking that his little group can defeat ‘You know who’.”
“I see, so you agree with the Ministry that everything is just a crazy mess and the world isn’t going to go through another Dark Age. Then why can I tell that you are lying? All I want is the truth. Mr. Weasley.” I sensed that he was getting uneasy. “Let’s move on shall we. Do you like working with the Minister?”
“Yes.” I asked a few more questions buying me some time and getting him relaxed again before I went on to the family.
“Enough about work, how about we talk about your family and home life. Are you married?
“No, but I currently have a girlfriend named Penelope.”
“How wonderful! Tell me about her.” I realized that he was much less stressed out around me now and was speaking freely.
“We have been dating since we were both at Hogwarts. I’m planning to propose to her very soon.”
“Congratulations. I wish you the best of luck. How about your home life I have been interviewing a lot of other people here and I met up with an Arthur Weasley. Are you related to him?”
“Yes, he is my father.”
“Wow, it must be nice working with your father. Having a family member in the same building.”
“Not at all, I try to avoid him.”
“Why?”
“They don’t love me anymore. I walked out on them after my father and I had an argument. I haven’t heard from them sense then.”
“Have you tried to contact them?”
“No.”
“Yet you seem to miss them. Why didn’t you?”
“I never said I missed them.” He snapped but calmed again and responded “I guess I didn’t think they would care. I told you we didn’t get along. He is part of Dumbledore’s group.”
“You cut off all contact to the people who you loved and who still love you back just because they don’t agree with your decision about the war. Does this sound like a good thing? To me it sounds like it wasn’t thought out fully. I sense that you are a more intelligent man than one to let some little family argument ruin a lifetime relationship. Am I right?”
“You weren’t there! You don’t know what happened. But I agree with you it shouldn’t ruin a relationship.”
“Then tell me what happened. I know you’re thinking right now that I was asked by your father to come here. Your father doesn’t know I’m here. You agreed with me so tell me how your case is different.”
“I always didn’t like my family; they always put me up on a pedestal. Don’t get me wrong I loved to be the center of attention but not all the time I felt like I couldn’t do anything wrong without disappointing them like I had to be perfect. They also have no money and won’t accept gifts or as they call it charity. Dad works over time but it never helps. I’m sick of being a part of that so when the Minister of Magic said that there was a job there I accepted. I mean Harry has to be lying about You-Know-Who. How can he be back when he was defeated so long ago if he was here then he would have done more and made his presence known. He wants to make havoc and have people fear him. The Minister agrees so it must be right. Dad didn’t think so and they say that I am turning my back on the family. Harry was part of my family and that I was to support the whole family. I didn’t want to hurt Harry but I just didn’t agree with him and will not sit back and listen to such crap everyday. I told them so and when I got a job here at the Ministry that really pushed them over the line was like I was fraternizing with the enemy or something.”
“So you are telling me that you are not talking to your family because you don’t see eye to eye with them and that you took a job that they didn’t approve of? About the money you told me you had other brothers that are making a fare amount of money that don’t live at home yet they still come for holiday meals and interact with the family. I guess what I can’t understand is how your experience is any different from all of the other ones out there. If you don’t’ like that fact that they are poor then make enough money for you and your future wife. If you don’t agree on a topic then let that be or just not talk about it. There are a lot of families where the kids don’t agree with their family’s ideas about politics and life but that doesn’t mean that they cut themselves off from there family. Are you telling me that you don’t love them at all anymore?”
“It’s not that I don’t love them they just drive me crazy…”
“All families do that that’s no reason to leave them for that.” I interrupted. “Tell me something that makes this situation different from others especially if you still have feeling for them.”
“I don’t know aren’t you suppose to be interviewing me not quizzing me on my answers.” He said a little angry.
“Yes I am sorry sir. I was only trying to give you a different persecuting and help you get along with your family more. Just think about what I said.”
“Very well I will.”
“You might also want to know that your father said that there would be a family dinner tomorrow. Maybe you should go and see if you can work things out. I’m not telling you what to do but I think you still love your family and I know that they still love you. Maybe you should give them another chance. Let’s get off the subject of your family.”
I ask some more random questions and called the meeting over. I knew that he would show up. I could tell that I hit a soft spot that told him what his heart wanted. I would have to wait until tomorrow to find out if my prediction was right.
I went back to the store just as it was closing. I didn’t tell them anything, no matter how much they pestered me about it. Everyone noticed that I was quiet that evening but I kept quiet and only hoped that my hard work paid off.
