Chapter 6
Once Harry was sure that the Marshall was out of earshot he turned to glance at his cousin once more. "So that's what happened?" he asked cautiously not wanting her to think that he was patronizing her again.
"Yes, thats what happened." he heard her whisper as she once again looked away from him. Sitting down on the edge of the bed he took her hands in his and gave them a gentle squeeze.
"Its alright Evelyn. We'll get you out of here if thats what you want?" he ventured sure that she wouldn't want to spend another moment here if she could help it. And he was right when she glanced at him a great-full smile on her face.
"That would be wonderful." she answered not bothering to retrieve her hands from where he still held them. He was glad to see that she wasn't angry at him any more. It was as if a giant worry had been lifted off his shoulders. He had been worried that she wouldn't want to see him, but her words to the Marshall had set him at ease in the department. For now he would worry about getting her out of there.
Letting her hands go he rose from the bed and turned to the door. "I'll be right back. I'm going to find your doctor and see about getting you out of here." Not waiting for her to say anything else to him he left the room and headed down the hall back towards the nurses station he had passed earlier.
Spying the nurse that helped him find his cousin's room he walked up to her and asked "Excuse me miss Vane do you know where I can find the doctor of Evelyn Kincaid?" And once again he got the same look that he had before but for his cousins sake he said nothing. Instead he waited as she looked up the name of the doctor handling his cousins case.
It took only a moment and then the nurse was coming back from around her desk. "Dr. Darian is the doctor handling the case. She'll should be coming back from her lunch break." she told him just as the Doctor they had been speaking of came into view.
Harry watched fascinated as the woman hurried from his side and over to the doctor. It seemed as though she couldn't wait to be ride of him. Which was fine with him since he wanted to get out of the hospital as soon as possible. He continued to watch the nurse exchange a few words with the doctor and then she walked off and the doctor headed his way.
"Hello, I'm Dr. Darian. You must be Mr. Potter I'm terribly sorry to hear about the attack on your cousin. So she wants to get discharged. Alright if you give me a moment I'll gather her release papers and will meet you in her room." the doctor told him the disapproval about his cousin not wanting to take the injections still evident in her voice.
Ignoring the censure he thanked the woman and made his way back to his cousins room. Walking over to her bedside he smiled and gave her the good news, she would be going home in just a few minutes. To say she was happy about that would be an understatement. He was just glad to see her happy.
"You should get dressed before the doctor gets here." he told her walking back over to stand in front of the door, blocking it just in case anyone tried to enter while she was getting dressed. It was her whispered I can't that brought his attention back to her.
"Why not?" he asked and then realized that her clothes must have been trashed when she was brought into the hospital. Shaking his head at not having thought of that first he pulled his travel bag out of his pocket and quickly enlarged it and began to rumage around inside. When he stood back up he held in his hands a tee shirt he had used as a night shirt, socks, a pair of his old jeans and an extra pair of shoes he had brought just in case he needed them.
Setting the objects on the bed he shrunk his bag once more and put it back into his pocket turning his attention to the items on the bed. He pulled out his wand and muttered a quick transfiguration spell that turned the tee shirt into a more wearable feminine style that wouldn't agravate her shoulder wounds. Next he changed the jeans into something he thought were a bit more her style and lastly came the shoes. When he was finished he left the clothes on the bed and went back to guard the door.
In no time at all his cousin was out of the bed and getting dressed. She finished just as the doctor knocked on the door. Stepping aside Harry moved over to his cousins side and they stood there as the doctor entered with her release papers.
"Now miss Kincaid you weren't supposed to leave for another day or two but since you seem to have a capable guardian to watch over your wounds for infection I've decided to let you go now. So if you'll just sign these papers you can be on your way." the doctor informed the pair holding the papers and a pen out for her to use.
Walking over to the doctor she took the papers and the pen and quickly signed her name where it was indicated and handed them back to the woman. Not bothering to look over her shoulder as she felt Harry move to stand beside her.
Once the doctor was done checking the papers over once last time she gave them both a smile and told them they were free to go and then left the room. Leaving them alone again. Not wanting to stick around too long the pair followed the doctor out of the room and made their way to the lobby and out the doors to the hospital.
"So where do you live?" he asked her as they stood outside the hospital looking around at all the cars parked in the lot.
"I live about twenty minutes from here down by the strip club Guilty Pleasures." she told him and even smiled as he gave her a look that said you live where? "I'll explain later." she assured him as she walked over to a young couple that had just ended their cell phone conversation. Kindly she asked to borrow their phone for minute so she could call a cab and thanked them when they agreed.
After making the call to have a taxi pick them up she thanked the couple again and led Harry over to a bench outside the hospital doors and sat down to wait for the taxi to get there.
