Chapter 6

“NO!” Erika firmly stated after Harry told her their plan.

“Come on Erika, be reasonable,” Ron coaxed.

Her eyes narrowed, “Do you know what you’re asking of me? Did you ever stop to consider what your brother would feel if you told him?”

“We told him already,” Ginny informed her with a guilty voice.

She looked taken aback with the realization that Fred knew but didn’t tell her, “What…what did he say?”

“Of course he said no, he said he was fairly capable of keeping you safe.”

Erika gave off a sigh of relief and stood up, “If he says he can protect me, then I believe him. If you’ll excuse me, I need to talk with someone right now.” She briskly walked away from the group towards the twin’s shop.

George was the one at the counter when Erika barged in the shop.

“Where’s Fred?”

“He’s upstairs.” George looked at her for some time before sighing, “He needs you Erika, he’s been up there ever since you left.”

She went up to Fred’s room and found him sitting down at the edge of his bed with his head buried in his hands. She placed a hand on his shoulder as she sat beside him, “Fred.”

“I’m sorry for being a git, I didn’t realize I was confining you to my side,” Fred hoarsely whispered.

Erika sighed and forced him to look at her face. It pained her to see him so broken. “Fred, listen to me. Harry told me what the situation is.”

He closed his eyes when he heard this.

“You should’ve told me that the remaining Death Eaters are after me. If I had known that then I wouldn’t have minded you fussing all over me.”

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”

“I should be the one apologizing. You were only thinking of my safety.” She leaned forward and kissed him on the lips.

Fred’s eyes flew open, “Did you agree to their plan?”

She smiled and gave him a kiss on the cheek, “You said you could protect me, I believe you.”

He stared at her in disbelief for some time before pulling her in a tight embrace. “Thank you.”

She embraced him back, “No, thank you.”

Harry arrived at St. Mungo’s a few seconds after the news of another assault on Erika reached him. Outside Erika’s room he saw Hermione pointing a finger on Fred’s chest. Uh-oh, that couldn’t be good. Having Hermione so riled up is not good. Poor Fred, he thought as he approached them.

“You said you could protect her,” Hermione accusingly said as she continued poking Fred’s chest.

Fred remained quiet as he let Hermione poke him.

Ron tried to pull Hermione back but she just shrugged him off. “Come on ‘Mione, Fred’s already distraught over what happened.”

“Well, this wouldn’t have happened if he just agreed to the plan.”

“What happened?” Harry asked George who was slumped in a chair.

“Someone attacked her Harry. They used the Cruciatus on her.”

“How did this happen? She wasn’t supposed to be left alone.”

“She was inside the shop when the Death Eaters came. We were at the back and she was manning the counter,” George’s voice cracked as he bowed his head down.

Hermione glared at the bowed head of Fred, “You know what to do Fred, don’t let another incident like this happen. I doubt she would be lucky enough to survive another attempt on her life.”

Harry approached Fred and placed a hand on his shoulder, “I don’t think this is the time and place to argue about this.”

Her eyes narrowed, “And when is the right time Harry? When she’s dead?”

Fred winced at her words and he tried to stop the onslaught of tears that threatened to fall down.

“He needs to realize the danger Erika is in Harry. They are getting bolder, attacking her in the shop during midday. I don’t think Fred realizes the danger she is in.”

“I’m sure he does Hermione.”

“I’ll believe that when he concedes.”

The door opened and Molly Weasley’s head peaked out, “She’s awake now, but she’s still in bad condition.”

Fred started to move towards Erika’s room when he heard Harry asking Hermione where she was going.

“I can’t bear to see her in such a state Harry. I’ll visit her when she’s feeling much better. Tell her to get well.”

Fred closed his eyes and sighed, “Fine Hermione, I concede. Just make sure that Malfoy doesn’t hurt her.”

Hermione nodded her head and apparated away.
