Breaking Through

So an ‘innocent’ Severus was alright, eh? Thanks for the reviews! *hugs*
Also, you might have noticed, I deleted the challenge from the beginning of the story. If I ever find it again, I'll try to link it. If anybody else knows where it is and can help, that'd be great.

Chapter Six—Short Chapter
Breaking Through

“So,” Severus drawled, “I intrigue you.”

“I think I already answered that,” Hermione said impatiently. He had already gotten some relief; it was her turn now, damn it.

“Am I another ‘intellectual pursuit?’” he asked dangerously.

So that was what he was getting at. “You have got to be kidding me,” Hermione said under her breath.

“I want to know what your intentions are, because if you think you are going to ‘love me and leave me,’ I would just as soon stop this now.”

Was he kidding?

“I’m not going to lie to you. I don’t know what you want. We were practically strangers before this week, although I do admit to admiring you from afar for a while now. While I am absolutely amenable to the prospect of a relationship, an exclusive relationship, I have no way of knowing where it will go. Is that good enough?”

“For now.”

“I don’t see where you get off saying you want a relationship with me when you won’t answer my questions so I can get to know you.”

“Hermione, that’s personal!” He sounded exasperated.

Though information and argument were her weak spots, she really did need some relief.

“This is really important to you, isn’t it?” she asked, gently.

“It is.”

He was very protective of this person, although she hadn’t been in his life as long as Hermione had been alive. Severus obviously cared very much for this person. Would he be so passionate in any relationship? Hermione could only hope. Her only fear, though, was having to compete with this person, this memory, when she had no idea with whom she was competing.

Noticing her look of concern, Severus decided it was best to get to the bottom of this issue. It was time to think like a woman. Or to try, at least.

“Hermione, why is this so important to you?”

“I just don’t know what I have to, who I have to compete with, you know? I don’t know what I have to be better than to make you want me.”

“Is that what you think, witch? Well, let me assure you, I am a one-witch wizard—quite literally before tonight. You will be the only object of my affections, if that is what you desire. And if your concern is whether or not I want you, I think that should be obvious.”

That was all she needed to hear. The other ‘thing’ she needed, she felt under her, beginning to get hard.

It amazed Severus that so few words could totally reverse what was quickly becoming an intense (in a bad way) situation. He had heard it said that witches were complicated. Being somewhat complicated himself, he found he realized at least where this witch was coming from. Something stirred in his chest when he found that he could be in a relationship with someone he understood, who wanted to understand him.

Hermione let out a squeal of delight as Severus reversed their positions with more skill than he had a right to. The intensity of his kiss was overwhelming.

*i*i*i*i*i*i*i*i*i*i*

Having been “friends” with Lucius Malfoy since school, Severus had the dubious privilege of having endured countless hours of Scheherazade-worthy tales of the pureblood playwizard. Witches, it seemed, did not have the monopoly on “kissing and telling.” Though he had no formal experience in the act of love-making (either watching or doing), Severus did have some understanding of the more ‘sensitive’ parts of a witch’s anatomy from the aforementioned narratives. It was time to put that theoretical knowledge to use.

Tearing his lips away from Hermione’s, Severus trailed kisses and gentle bites down her neck and shoulders listening for a gasp or moan of approval. Whenever he received one such clue, he paid extra attention to that spot. It was fairly simple, really; like a science.

When he reached her breasts, he laid his head against her and inhaled her scent. She wove her fingers through his hair and was massaging his scalp with a perfect amount of pressure; Severus could have purred. Instead, he found an already erect nipple and ran the length of his tongue over it. Hermione gasped and shifted her pelvis under him.

Obviously, this was enjoyable for her. It was more his fondness of symmetry than anything that made Severus think to use a hand to tend to whichever breast was not occupied by his mouth. As it turned out, Hermione was a fan of symmetry, also. Another commonality. Great foundation for a relationship.

“Severus,” Hermione said raggedly, “Severus, that feels wonderful, but…”

“Complaints already, Hermione?” His voice was like a pleasurable electric shock down her spine. “Perhaps you should fill me in on the details of -my- competition.”

“No, no. Severus, please. Merlin!”

“Whatever happened to equality, witch?” he purred, “The equitable exchange of information? Only to be used to enhance your experience, of course.”

“Shut up! I need more, please!”

“More of the same, Hermione? Or would you like something different?”

His hand slipped down between them, resting it at the very bottom of her abdomen.

“Severus, please!”

“Alright, witch, alright,” he said, sounding very put-upon, “don’t fly out of the bed.”

He slid slowly down her stomach, planting a few more kisses along the way.

A/N: This chapter is now happening in installments. I think it needs one or two more, but I'm not able to sit down and write for long stretches of time right now so I'm doing what I can.
