Togetherness

AN: I got a review on my last chapter about wishing these chapters were longer. I don't like to write very long chapters anymore, because I've found that my quality decreases, and also, I'm a lot less productive. If I set myself a goal of so many words, I findwriting a lot more enjoyable. Sometimes I surpass that goal, and sometimes I don't.
When I don't have a goal, I get distracted and writing becomes more of a chore than something fun.
Also, there was some suggestion of more character emotion. I thought there was a lot of character emotion in this, at least, an appropriate amount for where we are in the story.

They walked down the street together. To be sure, they made a strange pair. The man was tall and surly, wearing dark colored clothes and a scowl that contrasted sharply with the white garment that clothed the girl and her expression of fear. Moonflower peered over her lenses at him.

How bad could this be? After all, had he not given her the sunglasses so that she wouldn’t hurt? Maybe it was only going to be horrible in her own mind. Maybe these people didn’t treat their slaves badly.

But surely, another part of her argued, anyone who would buy a slave, especially the sort of slave it seemed she was to be, couldn’t be a nice person. Most likely he was only trying to keep her in good condition so he wouldn’t have to get another one soon.

Moonflower’s heart leapt into her mouth. She gulped a few times, trying to swallow it down. The man had a long stride, much longer than her own. She almost had to jog to keep up with him, no easy feat in the high heeled shoes she was wearing. He suddenly turned to look at her.

Afraid, she shrank back a few steps as his eyes seemed to bore her though. He looked her up and down, stopping on her feet and frowning.

“I shall endeavor to walk slower, as it seems that you are having a hard time keeping up with me.” His voice was cold and mechanical, and his words left a metallic taste in Moonflower’s mouth.

This man seemed so cruel and cold, but surely he mustn’t be? Her heart was thumping again, and she wondered if he could hear it. True to his word, he was walking slower, and now it was much easier for her to keep up with him.

Soon enough, they were coming to the entrance for the tubes. He expertly paid for the both of them and they waited in painful silence for the next train. Climbing aboard on the uncomfortable seats, she made a note not to look at him, but instead at her hands in her lap.

“My name is Professor Severus Snape.” The man told her in that same stiff voice, shaking his head just a little bit so his black hair slipped out of his face.
“You make call me Professor Snape.”

“Yes, Professor Snape,” Moonflower said automatically in a soft, meek voice. She continued to look at her hands. Her feet ached in the ridiculous heels, but she wasn’t going to say anything. Actually, she had been quite grateful that she could sit down at all.

Why in the world didn’t this man have a car? Where was he taking her?

Severus, noticing when someone needed some time alone, reached into the plastic sack at his feet to explore the contents, the only remnants of who she was. It did, of course, feel like some sort of invasion of privacy, but then again, when you thought it, wasn’t that the point of buying someone? They had no privacy from you. He glanced once more at the child on the seat next to him, staring down at her hands before plunging in to see who she had once been.
