Chapter Six
When Draco awoke yet again, he was still in the cell with the dripping of the faucet keeping its steady beat. He struggled to sit up and then managed to stand and use the toilet again. When he was done washing his hands, he cupped them and filled the hollow with water, which he drank deeply and refilled several times.
He had been in this cell for several days, and if he wasn’t starving before, he certainly was now. He had heard nothing about food coming to him, so he couldn’t count on it coming any time soon. Thankfully he at least had water to use as temporary stomach filler.
When he had finished drinking, he wiped his hands on his pants again and went back to the bed. It wasn’t like he had anything better to do then to lounge about on the still uncomfortable bed, thinking about things he had hoped to forget about.
Harry Potter was his mate, yes, and Draco loved him deeply – to a point where it was almost painful – but if Harry wanted nothing to do with Draco, then Draco would do his best to have nothing to do with Harry. Unfortunately, whenever Draco’s magic touched the two tiny lives growing inside him, he immediately thought of Harry Potter.
He pulled up his shirt slightly as he leaned against the wall on the long side of his cot. The bump of his babies was still small, but was defiantly more visible now that Draco had gone so many months without really eating properly. He skimmed his fingers gently over the skin of the bump, thinking about what he could do once they were born.
Surely the Ministry wouldn’t kill Draco when he had two babies to care for. Harry obviously didn’t want them, but since his mother was still alive, maybe the Ministry would think to give the babies to her to look after, while they tried and killed Draco for some crime or another. One thing Draco knew was that if he didn’t have Harry or his babies to live for, he wouldn’t want to live at all. Would the Ministry people care? He didn’t know.

Harry stood in front of the Minister of Magic, trying to puzzle out exactly what he wanted to say. Yes, now that the potion that had so confused him was dissolving, he did feel his love and need for Draco coming rushing back. But he didn’t as yet know what to do with those feelings.
“I’ve come to re-testify about my relationship with Draco Malfoy, if I may.” He told the Minister, who smiled up at him confusedly.
“Why is that, Harry? We already collected your testimony. The paperwork is all in order, and as soon as Draco’s children are tested for paternity, the plan is to formally arrest him for treason and being a death eater.”
Harry stared at the man before him, unsure of what to answer to or say first. “I’m sure you’ll find that Draco’s children are mine, Kingsley. That’s why I’d like to change my testimony. I’d also like to discuss taking Draco back home with me. As the father of his children, and his mate, I can’t let him stay here. It isn’t safe, you understand.”
Kingsley looked more then a little gob smacked. “Harry, only a day or two ago, you swore up and down you had nothing to do with Draco Malfoy’s pregnancy, and you had no idea of what he was telling us. Now you come in, and tell me he was telling the truth. How do you expect me to take this?”
“Take it as the truth. You may give me Veritaserum if you wish.”
“You were under Veritaserum on the last testimony too. How could you change your mind so fast?”
“My former testimony was influenced by false memories which were caused by my friends and Dumbledore trying to protect me from the truth. They were worried I would run off to try to save Draco if I remembered he was still with Voldemort, and in danger. They were right. I would have tried to save Draco if I had remembered. But they changed my memories, and I only recently discovered that fact. Draco Malfoy is my mate. The children he carries are mine too. I need to take Draco out of here.”
Kingsley shuffled some paperwork on his desktop, and then looked back at Harry. “You understand it’s going to be very hard to get the rest of the Ministry officials convinced that this isn’t some grand scheme. They’ll demand proof.”
“And they’ll have it when Draco’s paternity test shows me to be the father.”
Kingsley shrugged. "That may be enough. For now, Harry, you will have to sign off on some paperwork to release Draco into your care. Of course, the paternity test needs to be done first to prove the children are yours. As the mate to a Veela, you have every right to take him from our custody, but that also means you might be called to answer for his crimes too.”
“I understand, Kingsley. As for the paternity test, I’d like to be there when Draco has it.”
“Very well. Come back around three in the afternoon, and I’ll make sure you get in.”
“Thank you. I’ll be back later then.” Harry said, surprised how easy it was to have that conversation. He left the office of the Minister of Magic, and then the building, sure something was just waiting to go wrong.
