Chapter 5

Mutant VS. Magic

Chapter 5

On a highway in the middle of a forest, Voldemort and Lucius stood off to the side as Magneto stood in the middle of the road, a convoy coming straight for him. Lucius watched in awe, as Magneto tore through the convoy as if they were nothing more than toys.

“By Merlin,” Voldemort said with an evil smile.

“He is powerful my Lord, but do you honestly think you can trust him?” Lucius asked.

“Yes I can. He and I are similar in our goals. Come, let us meet this Mystique person he spoke of,” Voldemort answered as he made his way to the trailer.

The two Wizards quickly caught up with Pyro and Magneto. At the far end of the trailer was a woman. She had short red hair, blue skin, and yellow eyes. She smirked as she walked toward Magneto, Pyro, Lucius, and Voldemort.

“About time,” she smiled.

“I’ve been busy. Did you find what you were looking for?” Magneto asked.

“The source of the cure is a mutant, a child at Worthington Labs. Without him, they have nothing,” Mystique answered.

Magneto floated a metal clipboard to him, then handed it over to Pyro, “Read off the guest list,”

“Cell 41205. James Madrox,” Pyro said.

“This one robbed seven banks…at the same time,” Mystique added as the man stepped out of the cell, followed by six replica’s of himself.

“I could use a man of your talents,” Magneto smiled.

“I’m in,” James replied.

“Welcome to the Brotherhood,” Magneto said.

As the group moved to the next cell, James gave a quick glance over Mystique before exiting the trailer. “Careful with this one,” Mystique advised.

“Cain Marko. Solitary confinement. Now check this out, “Prisoner must be confined at all times. If he builds any momentum, no object can stop him,” Pyro read.

“How fascinating,” Magneto murmured as he opened the cell. Inside was a burly looking man. His wrists and ankles were incased in think metal shackles. “And what do they call you?” Magneto asked.

“Juggernaut,” Cain replied.

“I can’t imagine why,” Magneto teased.

“You gonna let me out of here? I need to pee,” Juggernaut said.

Magneto quickly removed the shackles and Juggernaut stepped out of the cell. “Nice helmet,” Pyro said.

“Keeps my face pretty,” Juggernaut smirked before exiting the trailer.

“I think he’ll make a fine addition to our army,” Magneto replied.

“Yes. They both will,” Voldemort added.

“Yeah,” Pyro said.

While everyone was talking, Mystique saw the green light of a laser sight pointed at Magneto’s back. “NO!” she screamed as she moved in front of him.

Everyone turned just as she was hit with a dart that contained the mutant cure. As she fell to the floor, Magneto called for the gun, while Pyro set the security guard on fire. The four men turned and looked down at Mystique. She was shivering and before their eyes, here blue skin faded away, leaving only flawless human skin, her hair now black and her once yellow eyes, were a blue color.

“You saved me,” Magneto said softly.

“Eric?” she whispered as he started to turn away.

“I’m sorry my dear. You’re no longer one of us anymore,” he said. He led the others away. “Such a shame. She was so beautiful,” he added to Pyro and Voldemort.

Lucius stopped at the door and turned once more. Mystique looked so broken and he felt a small bit of pity for her. With a flick of his wand, she was clothed in jeans, a blue button down shirt, and black boots.

“Thank you,” she mouthed.

Lucius just turned around and caught up with the others.

Hermione checked the clipboard and Jean’s vitals. She sighed as she looked at her friend laying on the cot. Hermione walked over and stood beside her friend. “Fight her Jean. Come back to us,” she whispered.

Before Hermione could turn away, Jean’s hand shot out and grabbed her wrist. Startled, Hermione looked down at Jean. The plastic dome monitoring her brain waves, floated away and Jean opened her eyes.

“Jean? You okay?” Hermione asked quietly.

“Yeah. I’m better than okay,” Jean answered slowly as she removed the tiny monitors on her chest and sat up.

“Jean, let me go get Uncle Charles. You’ve been through a tough ordeal,” Hermione said.

“No. I don’t need him, but I do need you,” Jean replied.

“Listen to me, I really think I should go get Uncle Charles. I know I’m a Phoenix too, but I may need help,” Hermione insisted as she heard the machines begin whirring and static coming from a few of the computer monitors.

“No!” Jean hissed.

The room began shaking, objects were rattling on their shelves. “Jean, Jean, fight her. Stay with me. Don’t give in,” Hermione pleaded as she took Jean’s face in her hands.

“Kill me,” Jean said tearfully.

“What?” Hermione asked.

“Kill me. Just kill me before I actually kill someone. Please Hermione,” Jean repeated.

“Stay with me. I’ll get Uncle Charles, he’ll fix this. You know he can,” Hermione said.

“I don’t need his help,” Jean hissed.

Hermione barely blinked before she went flying across the room and slammed into the wall behind her. Jean slid from the bed, blasted the door off it’s hinges and walked out of the medical bay.

“Where’s Hermione?” Scott asked as he and Logan walked down the hall.

“She’s down in the medical bay checking on Jean. I was just going down there to get her. She hasn’t eaten anything and she’s been down there since she woke up this morning,” Logan sighed.

“Can I go with you to get her?” Ron asked as he joined the two mutants.

“Sure kid, but for you and Scott’s safety, you’ll need to wait outside. Hermione thinks that if someone other than herself, the Professor, and maybe me, were to enter the room, Jean might lash out,” Logan answered.

The three took the elevator to the lower levels of the mansion. “So, what are your feelings for Hermione?” Ron demanded.

“Not that it’s any of your business bub, but I love her and she loves me,” Logan growled.

“What difference does it make to you?” Scott asked.

“She’s my friend. I just worry about her,” Ron answered, not meeting Scott’s eyes.

They exited the elevator. They turned and headed for the medical bay. It was then that Scott saw the doors. “Logan, look,” he said pointing to the busted doors.

“Hermione!” Logan cried as he took off for the medical bay, Scott and Ron on his heels.

The room was a disheveled mess. Monitors lie on the floor broken, test tubes and other medical equipment lay in shards of glass all around the room. The three men looked around trying to find Hermione amongst the ruble.

“Where is she?” Ron asked, fear and worry laced in his voice.

“LOGAN!” Scott yelled.

Logan and Ron ran to where Scott was kneeling. Hermione lay unmoving beneath a cot that had been thrown against the wall. The cot had landed on top of her and she had a bad cut over her right eye.

“Is she alive?” Ron demanded.

“Yes. We need to get her out of here,” Scott sighed as he felt her pulse strong and steady under his finger tips.

Logan moved the cot and Scott carefully gathered the young woman into his arms. The three turned and left what was left of the medical bay and headed for Hermione’s room.
