Chapter Six

Harry was only left alone to wait about ten minutes, before Draco followed the potions master in. He watched the Slytherins sit while he tried to think of a way to start this conversation. Seeing that that Snape wasn’t going to rescue him, he finally decided on direct. “Draco, there is no easy way to say this, I am not the Harry Potter that you know.” He waited briefly for some response but quickly realized that he wasn’t going to get one. “I think that this is a different dimension, timeline. I don’t know if I will be able to return to my life, and I don’t know if you will ever get you friend back. I am sorry.”

Draco didn’t respond the way he thought that he would. He seemed neither shocked nor upset. He nodded at Harry and then turned his grey eyes to Snape. “Confundus?”

Snape looked at his student and shook his head. “Sadly no. I am afraid that I agree with his assessment. This is not our Harry, he has lived through a lifetime of memories that are different that ours. He is not the boy I raised, and it cost him a great deal. This is a man who has already faced The dark Lord and won, but he holds the only key to getting our Harry back.”

Draco now looked at the two with shock. His voice was taking on a hysterical note. “How is that possible, and why?”

“I don’t know, how it happened.” Harry replied sadly. “I think that it is all tied to Voldemort.” He watched as both of them shuddered at the name. “He is still a threat here. I want to believe that if he is once again defeated that I will return to my world, and you will get your friend back.”

Snape nodded in agreement. “I have to admit that that thought also crossed my mind. It is the best hope that we have.”

“I am going to need a lot of help, Draco. He can’t know that this has happened. I need to fit in. There are things that I know that, I wouldn’t know here, and I need to keep anyone on the other side from suspecting that anything is different. I need for you too fill me in on my relationships with the other students, and if possible run interference, if I screw it up. Can you do that?”

Harry waited with baited breath. He was putting a large burden on someone who in his world wasn’t even trustworthy, much less brave.

Draco nodded absently. “Of course. When do you return to classes?”

Harry smiled for the first time since he had been transported here. “I don’t know, but I plan to wait until you think I am ready. I have to meet with Dumbledore today. Probably better this morning, than whenever you can spare time we can start.”

Draco nodded again. “I have second period free, meet me in the library, and I will do my best to get you ready.” Looking a bit pinched, he commented on Harry’s state. “You might let me take you to the dorm so you can change.”

Snape smirked and Harry let out a true laugh. “Sounds like a plan. Lead the way.”

After Harry was presentable, by Draco’s standards, he walked to the Headmaster’s office. He figured that it didn’t hurt to take the offensive. He had no inclination to guess candy, so he was prepared to wait. In his leisure he spoke to the statue. “I don’t suppose that you get much affection.” He patted it’s head as he spoke. “It hurts a bit, being nothing but a tool, I know from experience. I was lucky in some ways though. I just don’t know how often you should have to offer your life for those that you serve.” Harry was lost in thought and almost didn’t notice when the gargoyle moved a paw.

The stone moved enough to semi-embrace the boy. “I am aware of what you have tried to offer, and I will help where I can. You are not done, but you are strong, and we love you.”

Harry was stunned long enough for the silence to become oppressive. “I don’t understand.”

The stone gargoyle moved to the side to allow entrance. “You have never understood. You offered your life to save others. That is not something that is taken lightly. You changed the fate of all mankind when you did that. It was different than simply fighting to the death for a principle. It was more painful and real than being a Zealot. It was a true sacrifice. You will face more hardship but you have the loyalty of this castle.” With that the stone released him and he saw that revolving stairs.

He was truly perplexed. but he had no inclination to look a gift horse in the mouth. He moved onto the stairs and made his way to the master manipulators office. The door opened without a word, and he was walked in on a surprised Headmaster.

“How?” The man didn’t wait for an answer. His eyes quickly regained their twinkle. “I take it that the castle had taken a liking to you.”
