This is a short chapter, so I will post the next soon, happy?
Narcissa joined the group of Elders and her family, after a long talk with an elderly woman, living in the woods.
The woman was a truth-sayer and Narcissa looked her up when she had questions no one else could answer.
She was relieved to hear all would be well for her precious son, although his path would be difficult to travel.
He had to leave after the next turning of the sun.
It meant she could see Draco for only one more day.
It saddened her, but she knew she had to let him go.
Upon reaching the table of the High Council she noticed something was amiss.
Draco stood there defiantly and an Elder was looking at him with murder in his eyes.
Oh no, this would not do, not at all.
“Draco, dear, is there something wrong?” she asked, eyeing both of the men.
Draco turned his head towards his mother and she was startled to see his eyes had turned a dangerous shade of purple.
Her son was in a rage and needed a firm hand to guide him through this.
She pulled herself up to her full height.
“Thy name has not been said, I order thee to retreat” she said in a clear voice.
After a minute or two, Draco seemed to come to his senses and slumped a bit.
“What-what happened?”
Narcissa didn’t answer him, but sat down at the table.
She addressed him, with her back turned to him.
It had to be done this way.
If she was to look back now, Draco’s dominant part would see it as a defeat and kill her without hesitation.
“Sit” she said stonily.
Draco sat down as if he had been hit in the face by her.
He couldn’t look up, he felt ashamed, but didn’t know why.
He didn’t recall what happened after Eve and he exchanged their little mind-joke.
Elder ‘sourpuss’, as Draco had come to name him in his mind, had challenged him.
The Elder had been cross with Draco’s ‘explanation’ of the Queen rules.
He felt that Draco tried to outwit him and it didn’t sit well with the Elder.
He had thought Draco to be a push over, but soon found out he’d bitten off more than he could chew.
Instead of changing his stance, the Elder had erected himself to full height, closed his eyes and sent Draco a thrum, in the hopes that Draco would attack.
Then the Elder could show the rest, that the boy was not fit to be King of their Realm.
But Draco, having lived in the Slytherin dorms for seven years, knew instinctively what the Elder had tried to do.
Draco had to pull on all of his resources, but didn’t jump, growl or otherwise engage him in combat.
What Draco hadn’t known, was the fact that his dominant elf side, would stir and come to the front.
He fought as hard as he could and that was why his eyes hadn’t turned violet yet.
If his mother hadn’t stepped in at that moment, it would have been a case of mere seconds before Draco pounded on the Elder though.
Narcissa received an image from one of the other Elders about what had happened and she looked at Lucius.
“You did not intervene” she stated matter-of-factly.
“He has to learn how to fight his own battles, dear. You know that” Lucius said, his face pale as a sheet.
He had been very afraid Draco would have taken the bait, but was proud when he saw that Draco stood his ground.
Narcissa looked around the table and addressed all of them first.
“I know why you did not stop this. As Draco is the prince, he needs to know how to fend for himself. I understand that”, the group sighed relieved.
“However, Elder Greenbark, you were way out of line to send the prince a thrum.
How dare you challenge him, when he has not found his mate yet and there is no reason to challenge him? I hope for your sake that there is a viable reason” she said, barely containing her anger, but still soft spoken.
“My Queen, I do apologise for this uncommon reaction on my part, but the prince dared to defy me twice. I felt it was in my right to show him he was out of line” the Elder said insincerely.
Narcissa had been in the wizarding world long enough to know when a person was trying to save their own skin and she showed it.
“The prince defied you twice? How so?” she asked a bit too innocent.
“First he said his Elven name, to ‘greet’ us. Then he had the audacity to tell me how the Queen rules are supposed to be interpreted” the Elder said a bit maliciously.
Luckily Narcissa had gotten the image of those happenings from before too, through Lucius, so she wasn’t shocked to hear about this.
“My son made an honest mistake and he redeemed himself for that. You, yourself, said it was forgiven this one time. So to mention it now, it seems to me, that you have clearly not forgiven him. How…quaint” she said, still very sweetly.
“As for the Queens rules. Could you explain what exactly was wrong with his interpretation?”
This was where Lucius looked from his wife to the Elder and back, as if looking at a tennis match.
So were the others at the table, except for Draco.
He kept his eyes cast down and his mind blank.
He felt so tired again, he wanted to sleep.
It sounded like a bad plan, though.
It could be explained as boredom or disrespect.
Elder Greenbark stated that Draco refused to sit down, before his mother had.
That Draco had said that it was his understanding he had to wait for the Queen to sit first as she was above him, saying he knew those to be the Queen Rules.
“Elder Greenbark, I see no flaw in that explanation. Draco did not refuse a request from you. He abided by the rules and clarified them to you. Therefore I see no good reason for your challenge and will ask you kindly to leave this table, as it is only meant for the High Council and my family.” Narcissa said in her coldest, deadliest voice.
Before anyone saw what was to happen, the Elder jumped up from his chair and charged towards Narcissa.
He never got far, because Draco stopped him mid-stride and lifted the ex-Elder off the ground by his throat.
Draco’s eyes had become a radiant violet and there was no stopping him now.
He ripped out the throat of the hateful man and threw his body out of the circle of trees.
He turned towards his mother, bent down on one knee and kissed her hand, his eyes still violet, but in charge of his emotions for now.
His lust for revenge satiated at the moment.
“I have to rest and then I will leave, mother. I have brought this Realm nothing but trouble in the short while I have been here and an Elder died at my hands today. For this I am not sorry, for he was about to attack you. But it will bring more problems if I stay.” he said, exhausted.
Narcissa told him he did nothing wrong and it was expected of him to guard his Queen with his own life.
It did make Draco feel a bit better, but he was still weary and extremely tired.
Lucius helped Draco to stand up, they both nodded their heads to the Elders and headed for the dark room.
“If it makes you feel better, son, I never liked that miserable old man. He was spiteful and had high stakes riding on this, would you have acted upon the challenge. His son was next in line to be king. We were related, you know?” Lucius said.
“Dad, I disliked the man, the moment I set eyes on him. I only did, what you told me to do. Self preservation is not only a Slytherin trait, it was invented by the Malfoys” Draco chuckled tiredly.
His father laughed a bit at that and nodded his head in acknowledgement.
They reached Draco’s room and Draco walked in, wanting nothing else, but to sleep the day away.
“Dad, why am I so tired all of the time?” he asked in a soft voice.
“Because your mate is not here, Draco. You have to find her outside of this Realm” Lucius stated.
The last thing that went through Draco’s mind was, * it’s a he, not a she *.
He fell asleep with the image of gorgeous emerald green eyes, laughing at him.
