Performance And Plans
Author's Notes: The band has their first show of the year featuring Nickelback's Photograph.
The band and crew met up at breakfast the morning of their first performance and went over what to do. Demelza, Jimmy and Ritchie were so excited at being a part of the crew that they hardly slept the night before.
They set out for the pub to set up for the show in a couple hours and had to keep from laughing as their newest members nearly bounced the entire way there.
"Calm down guys," Hunter chuckles. "There's still a lot of work to do before the show and you need to pace yourselves before you burn out."
"Okay," they blush as they fall in line with the rest of them. "I'm just so excited," Demelza says. "I've never been a part of something like this before."
"I understand and it's okay." Hunter smiles. "I just don't want you wearing yourself out before the show. Otherwise you'll be too tired to have fun."
They arrive at their destination and begin setting up the equipment and booths before their audience arrives. Madame Rosmerta had agreed to keep the place closed until they were ready and smiles as she watches them work quickly.
She had agreed to the first show as a favor to Professor Dumbledore but it had turned out to be more profitable then she had imagined. So when the Headmaster approached her about allowing them to perform at her place every Hogsmeade weekend she jumped at the chance.
Besides, she thought. They are very good and play well together. They have what it takes to actually make it big in the music world. She smiles at the thought. And when they do I can say I helped give them their start.
A short while later all the preparations are finished and they are in their dressing room getting ready for the show. Hunter gives his usual pep talk to get them pumped up before they take the stage.
"How you all doing today?" Hunter calls out to the crowd getting them fired up. "Let's get this party stared off right."
Look at this photograph. Every time I do it makes me laugh. How did our eyes get so red. And what the hell is on Joey's head. And this is where I grew up. I think the present owner fixed it up. I never knew we'd ever went without. The second floor is hard for sneaking out.
As the crowd starts dancing Hunter notices a very excited Demelza selling merchandise singing along with him. He can't help but smile at her as he continues to sing.
And this is where I went to school. Most of the time had better things to do. Criminal record says I broke in twice. I must have done it half a dozen times. I wonder if it's too late. Should I go back and try to graduate. Life's better now then it was back then. If I was them I wouldn't let me in. Oh oh oh Oh god I.
Neville sits at the table reserved for them sipping his butterbeer as he enjoys the crowd’s reaction to the song, his song. Over the last year he's really started coming out of his shell and expressing himself more through his writting.
Every memory of looking out the back door. I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor. It's hard to say it, time to say it. Goodbye, goodbye. Every memory of walking out the front door. I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for. It's hard to say it, time to say it. Goodbye, goodbye.
Cho and Carla make the rounds among the crowd selling merchandise. With both of them being in Ravenclaw they've spent a lot of time talking and Hunter can see how close they've become. She's found another big sister to look up to. He thinks with a smile.
Remember the old arcade. Blew every dollar that we ever made. The cops hated us hangin' out. They say somebody went and burned it down. We used to listen to the radio. And sing along with every song we know. We said someday we'd find out how it feels. To sing to more than just the steering wheel.
Jimmy and Ritchie operate the booth near the door and are totally enjoying themselves in their little endeavor. Something about them reminds him of the twins. Though they might not have the same brilliance and flare that Fred and George had they work well together and seem to be on the same wave length with the other.
Kim's the first girl I kissed. I was so nervous that I nearly missed. She's had a couple of kids since then. I haven't seen her since god knows when. Oh oh oh Oh god I. Every memory of looking out the back door. I had the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor. It's hard to say it, time to say it. Goodbye, goodbye.
They continue to play as the crowd continues to feed them its energy. Savoring the rush from performing the band gets even more into the song. Things are going so well that Hunter can't help but think that maybe they should consider a career in the music industry after they graduate. But he wasn't going to let them do it on anyone's terms but theirs.
Every memory of walking out the front door. I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for. It's hard to say it, time to say it. Goodbye, goodbye. I miss that town. I miss the faces. You can't erase. You can't replace it. I miss it now. I can't believe it. So hard to stay. Too hard to leave it. If I could I relive those days. I know the one thing that would never change.
As the song draws to an end Hunter feels as if things are looking up in his life. Maybe he will talk with Katie after the show and see where things go for them. This is her last year at Hogwarts before she leaves school and enters the world. He wishes that he can go with her but knows he has to wait another year before they can even think of a life together.

After the show everyone packs up and heads back to the castle. They are still pumped from the performance and decide to have a little celebration in the common room. Since tomorrow's Sunday they plan on sleeping in and enjoying the down time.
Dobby brings them snacks and drinks from the kitchen as they sit around the room talking. Demelza was excitedly going over the show as Jimmy and Ritchie counted the money. "God I never knew you guys had so much fun," she squeals happily. "I wish I could have been with you last year."
Hunter can't help but laugh at her. "You're one of us now," he assures her. "We've still got the rest of the year and all of next year."
"Too bad this is just temporary." Jimmy says looking up from the money.
"Yeah," Ritchie agrees with his roommate. "After next year you guys will be gone and we'll still be here."
"I won't even be here next year," Katie says resting her head against Hunter's chest. "I graduate this year, leaving you all behind."
Hunter kisses the top of her head softly. "Don't worry about us," he says softly. "We'll be fine. It's you and Cho I'm worried about."
"Voldermort's still out there," Ginny reminds them. "Personally I'm kind of glad I've still got two years left till I graduate."
Everyone goes quiet as they are reminded about what awaits them in the real world. "To make matters worst," Ron says bitterly. "That Umbridge lady won't even teach us how to use magic to protect ourselves.
"Why are you guys even bothering with her?" Hunter says. "I mean come on she's not teaching anything useful. You'd be better off learning on your own."
"That's a brilliant idea," Hermione says sitting up. "We can learn on our own."
Hunter laughs, "And you'd do this when?"
"Well..." Hermione thinks about this for a few minutes but can't come up with anything.
"Why not use they same schedule from last year?" Hunter grins. "It will give us time to learn without interfering with our homework."
"Sounds good to me," Harry says.
"But what about band practice?" Demelza asks not really understanding what's going on.
"We already know nearly all the material so we only really need a couple practices before each show." Hunter tells her. "I'd suggest using the Room of Requirements." He kisses Katie softly before getting up. "I'm off to bed. Catch you all tomorrow."
