Chapter 6; The real me

It was very late when Seena finally went up to her bedroom, though she wasn’t tired. She didn’t need much sleep but tomorrow’s match was quite important and she didn’t want to fuck it up.

‘But that’s all I can do! Fucking things up!’ She undressed in silence and looked at Hermione’s bed. She knew the girl wasn’t sleeping. Seena slipped under the sheets and waited until Hermione finally faced her. The younger girl opened her eyes and jumped a little when she noticed Seena was staring at her.

‘Hi...’ Seena projected in Hermione’s mind. This latter jumped even more to this intrusion.
“You’re a legilimens?” She whispered to Seena, her eyes opened wide.

‘Um, I don’t know what a legilithing is, but I can communicate via telepathy. All you have to do is think what you want to say. And don’t worry I won’t read your deepest thoughts.’

Hermione nodded.

‘Do you think I’m evil?’ Seena asked with unspoken words.

‘What do you mean?’ She replied, slightly confused.

‘You know, evil...like bitchy, cold and aggressive...’

‘I guess not...I mean, I think I saw different sides of you, the ones you wanted to show me...but all I see in you is a lost and lonely girl!’ Seena didn’t answer, she looked lost in her own hidden thoughts.

‘I know you’re not the kind of person you pretend to be. But I wonder what made you create this shell of violence and anger.’

‘I don’t think you wanna know...’ Seena’s face was now more serious than ever.

‘You’re wrong...I-I want to know everything about you! Where you’re from, what you went through-”

‘Hell...’ Hermione stared at her, the darkness hiding half of the brunette’s face.

‘I never met my parents, because I was abandoned. All I know about them is that they were drug-addicts and after all, I was born because of magic so I don’t know if they were my parents. The Ancients- crappy old men- raised me into Wiccan stuff because they thought I was the Nemesis. It was a real nightmare, I couldn’t see anybody, had to live in complete loneliness. There was only this guy who was teaching me and...some times he beat me when I couldn’t manage to do one thing. And one night I was in my room and he came to me...he was often drunk you know and...’ Seena paused. The memories of that awful night were still vivid and hurtful in her mind. Though she didn’t want Hermione to see them, she couldn’t hold back the pictures of this terrible moment. Hermione muffled a cry when she realised what had happened. Seena shook her head to erase the thoughts from her head and went on.

‘After that the guy disappeared. I don’t know if the Ancients killed him or just fired him...Anyway, they decided it was time for me to enter this world, and they sent me to High School. I couldn’t practice magic, I was bored and frustrated...so I started to hang out with a couple of guys who were into drugs and alcohol. I can count on my two hands the hours I spent in class that year. The time I spent at school I was fighting and...one day I almost killed a student just with one punch. That’s when the Ancients told me I had finally developped my super strenght. Gradually they began to freak out about my control of magic and my behavior towards people. That’s why they sent me here, I guess...’

‘They thought Dumbledore and the school would help you to control yourself and define your side for the Final Battle...’ Hermione finished.

‘Yeah...but you know...I guess I just...I don’t fucking know where my life’s been gone. I mean, I don’t have a life! I don’t have anything...’ Seena frowned.

‘You have me...’ A small smile appeared on Hermione’s face. The brunette didn’t reply, but the younger girl could see how much the words had moved her. Seena glanced at the two Gryffindor girls who were snoring in their bed and then looked back at Hermione’s bed. Although Seena didn’t ask anything, Hermione moved on one side of her bed to make some room for the Nemesis.

‘Come here’

Seena closed her eyes and vanished from her bed. A second later she was by Hermione’s side, holding her in her arms. They stared deply into the other’s eyes and kissed softly, not caring about what may come tomorrow when their roommates would find them.

“How do you feel Chasing girl?” Harry poked Seena’s shoulder as she was standing on her broom in the middle of the Quidditch pitch. Both captains were holding each other’s hand before the beginning of the match. It was really important that Gryffindor wins by three hundred and twenty points, or they would never have the chance to win the House Championship. That meant the Chasers had to score seventeen times and Harry had to catch the Snitch after this. Quite impossible in his opinion.

“Dunno...Ron still wanna bet about my goals?”

“Yes! He said you could score ten times, and I bet twelve! Don’t make me lose or he’s gonna be unbearable! Please!” Harry grinned before flying away. Mrs Hooch, the referee threw the Quaffle in the air and Alicia Spinnet immediately caught it. She dodged two Ravenclaws and passed to Seena who scored the first ten points. She was quite glad that her teammates had all accepted her without resentment, though she had defeated them when she was in the Slytherin team.

“And one more goal for Seena Tariyo! This girl’s definitely a good Quidditch player, even if her style is quite original!” The brunette smiled to Lee Jordan’s comment.

‘Funny how people can change their mind!’ Seena thought. An hour later, Gryffindor was leading by one hundred and twenty to forty. The Ravenclaw team was desperately trying to keep the Quaffle but each time they reached the middle line of the pitch, Seena tackled their Chaser. She was flying one more time towards the goalposts when she heard voices screaming.

“Bludgers!”

Seena frowned and glanced on her left. Indeed, the leather ball was flying towards her. She armed her fist to hit it but then another sound reached her ears. She turned her head to her right.

“Fuck!” The two Bludgers hit her forcefully at the same time. The collision was so strong she was ejected from her broomstick. Seena looked at the ground. From the high terraces, Hermione was looking with horror the girl she loved falling. Around her, everybody was screaming.

“She won’t survive!”

“Eighty meters!”

“Someone has to stop this!”

Hermione noticed Dumbledore’s wand raised in the air and pointed towards Seena. But even the Headmaster’s magic couldn’t reach Seena. The ground was coming closer each second.
Hermione let out a scream. In the air, Seena executed a flip to place her feet towards the ground.

‘Four, three, two, one...’ She thought in her head before the collision happened. There was a deafening noise, as if a lightning had hit the pitch, and a kind of earthquake. When the cloud of dust vanished, the supporters suddenly became very silent.

‘She’s still alive! I can’t believe it!’ Hermione stared with shock at the older girl, one knee bent and her arms stretched against the ground. All around her, there was no more grass, nor sand, it was just a crater. Not able to hold back her relief, Hermione exploded with joy and screamed, quickly followed by every student, player, and teacher in the pitch, except Snape and his house. Seena stood up on her broom and the match went on.

Ron Weasley didn’t like to lose his bets. Usually. But he had quickly forgotten the ten Galleons he owed to Harry when the Gryffindor team had won by three hundreds and fifty to eighty. They were now second in the House Championship. Katie Bell and Alicia Spinnet had scored four times each, and Seena twelve times. No use to say a big party was in full swing in the red and golden common room.

“Your game was so...so s-stunning! A-and breathtaking! I almost fainted when you jumped from your broom to grab the goalpost and score!” Neville Longbottom was stammering to Seena.

“That’s basket-ball! I used to play in the HS team! It’s called a dunk, that’s the name of the trick.” The new Chaser replied with a smile while drinking her cherry beer. Hermione came from behind and took a sip of Seena’s drink. She choke on the beer and her cheeks turned red. Anger blazed in her eyes when she stared at Seena.

“Still drinking alcohol? I thought I told you it’s not good for you! And...Is that smoke I’m smelling on you?” Hermione scolded. Seena just shrugged and drained her glass at one go.

“Come on, let’s go outside.” The brunette took Hermione by the hand and dragged her out of the room. They walked to their usual tree and stared at each other in silence. Then Seena leant in and kissed Hermione as gently as she could. When they finally pulled apart, Seena softly stroke the younger girl’s cheek.

“There’s one thing I wanna show you. But it’s not here. It’s gonna take the night. Do you trust me?”

“What? I don’t understand...”

“Are you ready to break the rules for me?” Seena didn’t speak in a teaseful tone, she sounded, quite the reverse, deadly serious. Hermione nodded slowly and kept staring into Seena’s brown eyes. She didn’t react when they turned into black orbs, because she was now used to the change.

“Don’t let go, hold me tight, okay? It’s not gonna be long.” Seena whispered and took Hermione in her arms before closing her eyes. She focused hard on the place where she wanted to go and chanted the spell inside her head.
