The Holy Sword

Author's Note

I hope you're all liking the story so far. In this chapter, Randi teaches Harry one of her most deadly spells, intending for him to use it against Voldemort at the next Death Eater's meeting. Let's see how he does with it.

“How DARE you show me such things, then walk away from me!” he hissed and pushed her against the corridor wall as the portal closed behind him.

She glared at him and replied, “So now you give a damn, do you? Then I suggest you forget about your Dark Lord and your grudge against Mr. Potter and focus on the fucking task at hand! We’ll need everything in our power when the Corillians arrive, or we don’t stand a chance in hell of defeating them.”

Suddenly, they heard footsteps coming from the other end of the hallway. It was Dumbledore. He approached the two of them and said, “Good morning. I was just coming to ask why you two weren’t at breakfast, “ He then paused when he saw the grim look on the Potionsmaster’s face, “But I think I already have my answer. Did you take him through the portal?”

Randi nodded. “Yes I did.”

Severus avoided looking in the old wizard’s eyes, halfway expecting to be hexed at any moment. To his surprise, Dumbledore patted him on the back and gently said, “We never know how deeply our choices affect the world around us. I think that fate has given us a golden opportunity to change what lies ahead, Severus. Can we count on your assistance?”

Severus only nodded.

“Good then.” Dumbledore smiled, “I’ve already sent pensives of what Randi has seen through the portal to the Ministers from the other continents. I expect they’ll be meeting us very shortly to discuss the situation. Until then, I have to ask that you both keep quiet about this.”

Randi nodded.” Of course, Sir.”

“Alright then. I’ll see you both at lunch.” The old wizard replied, and then walked away, leaving them once again alone in the corridor.

“Good day, Professor.” Randi said coldly then headed to her room, slamming the door shut behind her.

Severus hardly blamed her for hating him. He was indeed a selfish bastard who had only cared about himself and his fellow purebloods throughout his entire life. Be that as it may, there was now a greater cause he had to serve. He couldn’t sit back and let the world around him be destroyed. Not even he was that heartless. No, he could not kill Dumbledore now. The circumstances had just changed in the most drastic way imaginable. Switching sides was his only viable option.

He spent the rest of the morning grading essays for next week’s classes. At lunch, Randi didn’t say a single word to him and hardly touched her food. He didn’t see her again until the evening at dinner. Again, she barely ate and sat in silence. Later in the evening he came to her room and stood outside the door. She was sitting cross-legged on the carpet with her eyes closed in meditation. A small incense burner sat in front of her, and light, celestial music filled the room along with the heavy scent of jasmine.

She opened her eyes and looked at him expectantly. “Yes?”

He walked in and closed the door behind him. “What do you expect from me, MacKenzie? An apology? Gratitude?”

“I expect you to do your job!” She replied in a vexed tone, “Nothing more, and nothing less. The last thing we need is Voldemort joining forces with the Corillians, and don’t think he wouldn’t. He’d sell his own mother if he thought he would profit from it.”

He sat down across from her, assuming the same cross-legged position, and replied, “Fine, but first I’d like to know what the hell you are. How is it that you can bend time? It’s never been done, not even by Merlin himself.”

“I’m an anomaly.” She replied softly, “I was adopted by the head of America’s Magical Research department shortly after I was born. Apparently I have a much stronger than average connection to the magical current that runs through this world. He raised me in the complex and taught me how to use my abilities. By age sixteen, I was running with Aurors on missions.”

He nodded. “So you’re a…”

She stood up and glared at him, “A mutant as well as a mudblood! Are you happy now?”

He rose to his feet and looked at her intently, “That isn’t what I was going to say.”

“Good evening, Professor.” She hissed as she opened the door.

“Our next meeting is this coming Wednesday at midnight. Come to the old mill on Hanley Road.” Without another word, he walked out and went to his chambers. He desperately needed a glass of firewhiskey.

Randi fumed as she put out the incense and cleaned the burner. If that bastard were lying to her, she would give him a new understanding of the word pain. She had no choice but to trust him, though. There was little time, and she had to make sure Harry was prepared. She had a spell that would surely work, if he could do it. As much as she loathed Severus Snape, she was looking forward to seeing that bastard Voldemort get what he deserved. He was in for a very brutal surprise.

After putting the incense burner away, she left her room and headed for Gryffindor Tower. She stopped at the portrait of the Fat Lady, who stared at her curiously.

“Password.” The lady said flatly.

“I’m Professor MacKenzie.” Randi said, “I need to speak with Harry Potter.”

The lady firmly replied, “I can’t let you in unless you know the password.”

“Fuzzy pumpkins.” Came a female voice from behind her. It was Hermione.

The lady allowed the door to open and Randi thanked the girl as they walked in together. Luckily, Harry was sitting in the common room studying with Ron and another boy. He looked up at her and smiled. “Hello, Professor. What brings you here?”

“Come with me, Mr. Potter.” She ordered, and then turned to leave. Harry followed her with a confused look on his face. “What’s this about, Professor?”

“I’ll tell you once we’re outside.” She replied casually and kept walking. Once they were outside, she led him away from the castle to a small clearing surrounded by trees. She turned to face him, then said, “I’ve heard your story, Harry. I’ve also been told about the prophecy. What would you say if I told you that next week, you’ll have your chance for revenge?”

Harry stood there for a moment, letting the words sink in. She could see the anger welling up inside him.

“Do you want to kill Voldemort, Mr. Potter?” she asked bluntly.

“It’s my fondest wish.” He replied in a grave tone.

A wicked smile came across her face. “Very well then. I’m going to teach you a new spell, a spell of my own creation. I must insist that you never reveal it to anyone, not even your closest friends. It’s difficult, but I think you’ll be able to do it.”

“What’s the spell?” he inquired, keeping his eyes firmly fixed on her.

“It’s a little thing I call ‘The Holy Sword’”, she explained, “Watch me closely.”

She turned around to face the other direction and closed her eyes. After a minute of concentration, the air around them began to grow chill. Harry felt the familiar feeling sweep over him, but kept his eyes on where the Witch was looking. His mouth dropped when he saw what she had summoned. Bloody hell, she’d called a Dementor, and it was coming straight towards them! His mind raced as he heard the screams that had been his mother’s last. He struggled to keep his eyes open as the air around them began to swirl and the temperature dropped even more. The Dementor came to within a few feet of them, and then seemed to be held back. Randi stared at the creature, her face twisted into a look of absolute contempt. Then she pointed and accusing finger at it and yelled, “Justitia Deorum!” Harry watched in amazement as the Dementor hung there, as if frozen in place. For a minute, it seemed surprised, and then he watched its hideous face gape in shock.

Randi turned to Harry and said, “Now, I want you to clear everything else from your mind, point at this creature and concentrate on all the evil it’s done. Don’t focus on anger, only justice. Concentrate as hard as you can then say what you’ve just heard me say.”

Harry did as he was told, concentrating with all his might. The Dementor began to writhe in agony. “Justitia Deorum!” Harry screamed as he thought about how Dementors didn’t care who they attacked, and how they’d all left Azkaban to join Voldemort. Suddenly the creature let out a shriek, and then fell to the ground, dead.

“Bloody hell” Harry gasped, “I’ve never seen anything like this before! You didn’t even need a patronus!”

Randi muttered an incantation over the Dementor’s corpse, causing it to slowly disappear into the ground beneath it. She then turned to Harry with a proud smile. “Well done, Harry.”

“How in Merlin’s name does that work?” he asked.

“It’s simple.” She replied, “Those who do evil incur the wrath of the Gods. You bring to the enemy’s mind all the horrible things they’ve done, and they fall victim to the punishment they’ve brought upon themselves. It only works on a single opponent, however, and you have to keep eye contact or the spell will fail.”

Harry’s expression fell into a look of sadness. “He’s taken everything from me. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of Divine wrath than he is.”

“Good then.” She smiled, “It should prove very effective. You have just a few days to practice it. Meet me here after dinner and we’ll work on it. Come Wednesday night, you’ll have your chance to rid this world of Voldemort once and for all.”

“I don’t know how to thank you for this.” Harry said shyly.

“There’s no need to thank me.” She replied, “Just promise me you’ll never use the spell again. If successfully cast, its always fatal.”

He gave a nod. “Right. I promise, I’ll only use it on Voldemort.”

“I have to go talk to the Minister and arrange for some assistance.” She stated as she turned to walk away, “We have a Dark Lord to destroy.”
