Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Decisions
Finally another chapter! It has been written for a while but I just have been too busy to type it in. Hopefully I will get to post another chapter sometime before Prophecy in August but I need to get out another chapter of my other story too. Does anyone have a time-turner by any chance? Seriously though I hope you like this chapter. I couldn’t resist the reference to my beloved Cape Breton.
Chapter 6: Decisions
“I’m sure they are fine Poppy. We really should not disturb them.”
“It has been over twelve hours since we last heard from them. Who knows how that discharge of magical energy affected them?” Poppy said. The Headmaster and Professor McGonagall charged into the bedroom behind her. They stopped short in the doorway and averted their eyes.
Harry and Tonks lay amongst the disheveled bedding, wrapped in a lover’s embrace. The top sheet was barely clinging to their hips. Tonks’ head was buried in Harry’s neck, his head resting on hers. One of her arms was draped over his shoulder as she lay half across his chest. Harry’s arms were wrapped around her.
Harry and Tonks’ eyes snapped open. Tonks squeaked, and Harry wandlessly summoned the sheet to cover them.
“What is going on,” Harry demanded.
“No one had heard from the two of you for twelve hours,” replied Madame Pomfrey as she walked up to the bed, and began to scan them with her wand.
“We were busy,” squawked Harry. “Must you do that right this minute,” he said to the medi-witch.
“Well you seem to be fine,” she huffed. “Have you eaten at all?”
“Dobby brought us food,” said Tonks.
“Can we continue this discussion AFTER we get dressed,” Harry growled.
“Certainly, certainly,” Dumbledore hastily replied. “Ladies, shall we wait for them in the sitting room?”
Professor McGonagall hurried out of the room, followed by Dumbledore and Pomfrey.
Once the door was shut behind their unexpected guests, Tonks rolled off Harry with a groan.
“Gods, but that was embarrassing,” she moaned.
Harry snorted. “You can say that again.” He rolled onto his side. “Good morning,” he smiled down at her
She laughed, and leaned in for a kiss. “Good morning, or is it good afternoon? I guess we need to get up then?”
“Afraid so.” He wrinkled his nose. “I don’t suppose they’ll wait until we take a shower?”
“Probably not.” She reached for her wand, and cast a cleaning charm on them both. “That will have to do for now.”
Harry threw off the covers and sat up. Tonks took his hand, and he pulled her up into his arms. He kissed her deeply, finally breaking off the kiss when the need for air became a necessity. They climbed out of bed, and hurried to get dressed and join the others.
HTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHT
When they walked out into the sitting room they were greeted to tea and a continental breakfast laid out on the coffee table in front of the sofa. They sat down and dished up a plate for themselves.
“Thank you for ordering breakfast,” Harry said as he fixed his tea.
“You’re welcome,” answered Dumbledore. “So what were you doing all this time?”
Harry nearly choked on the piece of fruit he had been chewing. He blushed.
“We’ve been… working on the bond.” He evasively replied.
“What do you mean?” Dumbledore inquired politely.
“We’ve been SHAGGING like Rabbits!” giggled Tonks.
Harry elbowed her, blushing even darker. The others blushed as well.
“I guess that was a rather stupid question wasn’t it,” muttered Dumbledore.
Tonks laughed. “The compulsion to touch is better already. We can go for longer periods of time without touching although it is still easier to keep a part of our bodies touching,” she gestured to their legs that were touching while they sat and ate. “Have you heard from Kingsley?”
“Yes. You have been granted a leave of absence however the Minister would not agree to the cover story of you being Harry’s bodyguard.”
“Why not?”
“He did not want to worry the parents. They might not think it is safe to send their children to Hogwarts if Harry Potter needed a bodyguard.”
“I guess that makes sense,” muttered Harry. He sipped at his tea and thought about the situation.
“What are we going to tell people then,” asked Tonks.
“I have not found another option yet,” stated Dumbledore.
“I have an idea,” added Harry.
“Oh?”
“If I understand this bond correctly we are now in a sense married?”
Albus’ eyes went into twinkle overdrive and a broad smile lit up his face. “That would definitely work.”
“What would work,” asked Tonks?
“We would need to make up a name and personal history but it would work,” continued Dumbledore.
“Albus what are you planning now,” demanded McGonagall.
“Harry?”
He turned to Tonks, taking her hand. “This bond is forever so how about making it legal. Will you marry me?”
“What???”
“As a married student Harry and his wife would be entitled to their own rooms and no one would think twice about newlyweds holding hands and always being together,” explained Dumbledore. “If you would be willing to change your appearance we could have you pose as a teenager who needs to transfer to Hogwarts to be with her husband.”
“Wouldn’t that look suspicious? Who would believe that Harry up and married some girl he hardly knew?”
“I don’t think anyone who truly knows me would have a problem believing I could do something that impulsive,” grinned Harry. The others laughed. “Seriously though we need to create a believable story.” He sat and sipped his tea, thinking. After a few minutes he came up with something. “What about saying that she is a relative of one of my neighbors. She always comes to visit every summer and we became friends. After all these years we fell in love and I could not bear to be without her thus asking her to marry me. We snuck off and got married so she could stay with me.”
The others stare at Harry in awe. ‘That is brilliant…where did he come up with that…the boy definitely could have been sorted into Slytherin,’ amongst the thoughts going through their heads.
Albus cleared his throat. “That would work. What do you think Nymphadora?”
Tonks sat there in stunned silence, trying to take in the conversation. ‘Pose as a student, get MARRIED!’
“Hey are you ok?”
“Sorry it is a lot to take in. Are you sure you want to get married?”
“We are already married as far as this bond is concerned. We might as well make it legal.”
“Ok,” Tonks sighed. “When are we going to do this?”
“I think we should have a muggle civil ceremony as soon as possible,” said Harry. “Then afterwards we can have a small wizard wedding.”
“Why would you have a muggle ceremony,” asked McGonagall.
“If we really met in Surrey the only ceremony that our relatives would have acknowledged would be a muggle ceremony. We need to go to a justice of the peace to have a quick civil wedding. We will need some muggle I.D. to get married though.”
“I have some. Things like that are needed for work sometimes. We could probably call Kingsley to get you some.” She turned to the Headmaster. “What about the cover story? If I’m suppose to be a teenager,” she made a face,” what are you going to do about my school records?”
“I have a friend who is the Headmaster at a school in the Cape Breton Highlands in Canada. I can contact him and we can create a transcript with your actual school records. You can pretend to hand in assignments, there is no reason to create unnecessary work for yourself or the professors.”
“Why Canada? Would it not make more sense to have me go to Beauxbatons or another European school?”
“No. I think having you pose, as a Canadian is more practical. The press is liable to make a big story out of this and having you go to a school that they cannot check up on it will make keeping your true identity secret easier. Also your accent would be believable as from somewhere like Cape Breton with a high population of people with ancestral ties to the British Isles.”
“Oh ok.” She yawned loudly. “Sorry about that, I guess I’m still tired.”
“I’m sorry for taking up so much of your time,” said Dumbledore. “However we still need to decide what name you would like to use. Do you have a middle name that we could use?”
Tonks made a face. “My middle name is just as bad as my first name.”
“What about Nora,” asked Harry? “It uses parts of your real name and I assume the wizard marriage certificate would need to have your real name so Nora could be considered a short form.”
Tonks thought for a moment. “I guess Nora is not THAT bad? You are probably right about keeping it close to my real name. What about a surname?”
“That will be harder to change. I can put a charm on the actual marriage certificate that will only reveal your true name to those people who know the truth. All others will see the name you choose.”
“My paternal grandmother’s maiden name was Gillis. How about we use that?”
“Excellent. Nora Gillis it is,” proclaimed Dumbledore. “That will work very well, Gillis is a very common name in Cape Breton.” Dumbledore called a house-elf to collect the dishes. “I will contact my friend to get the documentation started and Kingsley to get the proper identification made. Hopefully in a few days you will be able to venture out and we can see about that muggle ceremony.”
“Hopefully sir,” answered Harry.
“Good, good. We will take our leave then and let you get some rest.” He looked to the ladies who nodded and got up.
“Please contact me if there is any problems,” said Madame Pomfrey. I expect at least a floo call every 8 hours or so to let me you are all right.”
“Yes Madame Pomfrey,”sighed Harry.
“Good-bye Harry, Nora.” The three finally left.
Harry looked at Tonks. “Gods that was excruciating. Want to shower or just go back to bed?”
“As much as I need a shower sleeping sounds like the best plan.”
Harry got up from the sofa, reaching out a hand towards Nora to help her up as well. They walked hand in hand back to the bedroom, stripped down to their underwear and crawled back into bed.
“Sleep well…Nora.”
She scowled at the name then sighed. “I guess I need to get use to that don’t I?”
“It’s not that bad, I like it.” He kissed her softly. “Get some sleep.”
She settled onto her side and Harry spooned up against her back, wrapping an arm around her. She closed her eyes and drifted of to sleep. Harry lay awake for a while thinking about all that was discussed and how to tell his friends about it. He finally fell asleep wrapped around his soon to be wife.
