Severus

-------

Severus unfastened his dark cloak with one hand, mulling over Lucius’s predicament. He could have found it on the humorous side if he hadn’t been experiencing the same thing. He threw the cloak on a silver hook and flicked his wand at the fireplace.

Severus regretted Black’s death, only because it wasn’t at his hands. He hadn’t been able to savor that sweet revenge for himself and was now reduced to bringing out his 20 years of pent up fury out on the werewolf instead. He hated them, he knew that. How long he dreamt of their deaths deep in the night, their cries of agony as he laughed with cruel satisfaction. But that life long dream was stolen from him. The Potters was by his master, so he allowed him that but Black was by an undeserving unworthy woman, Lestrange. The Dark Lord understood his anger and had allowed him to savor the mad woman’s screeches down in the dungeons.

He wasn’t good, he had known that for awhile. He was no use trying to be good, trying to shield his mother from drunken blows with a small frail body. He was no use trying to make friends with these so called “good people”, he only got kicked down instead, ground into the mud. But then, the “dark prince” of Hogwarts decided to take an interest in him and he decided to take an interest in the Dark Arts. Then and only then, was he useful for something. His bastard father’s screams still ringed pleasantly in his skull, he had tortured and killed him when he had discovered his mother’s dead body, beaten to death by a broken beer bottle. This Dark Prince, Lucius, had helped cover Severus’s part in the murder, thus starting their friendship. Severus’s first and only true friend.

They had been lovers once, turning to each other when they realized that the hard planes of a man’s body was where their true desires lay. Many nights had passed with silent murmurs and cold touches. It was the closest thing Severus had ever felt to love but Lucius’s engagement to Narcissa shattered that completely. He knew that Lucius was no willing participant but that alike of a pawn in the intricate Malfoy line and thus he had never been angry with Lucius over the matter. But then they realized that their relationship was akin to that of the muggle word “fuck buddies” and they abandoned it other than the occasional sexual venting. Lucius didn’t get the satisfaction he needed from Narcissa and Severus had completely frightened all his prospective lovers away with sharp words and hidden dark secrets that they didn’t want to become involved in.

Severus was one of the few willing followers of Voldemort other than those who were slightly insane. The Dark Lord could teach him the darker more intimate levels of the Dark Arts that he couldn’t have learned anywhere else and he understood that Severus wasn’t one to be ruled and did things of his own choosing. In fact, Severus and Voldemort were extremely similar in many aspects. He knew that he was the only one that Voldemort trusted utterly oddly enough, seeing as he was the only Death Eater who didn’t have a bonded Dark Mark. The tattoo was only for show, so that if needed, he could catch a traitorous Death Eater off their guard.

He noticed the werewolf out of the corners of his ebony eyes. The man was curled up in a miserable ball by the barred window. He had his forehead pressed against the cold bars, his red rimmed amber eyes staring at the moon in semi hatred. His handsome face was weary, his powerful lithe body looking thin and weak.

Severus knew what he was musing over. The screams of the witches and wizards he had torn apart with his fangs and bloodthirsty claws and his most recent worry, Potter. He knew that the brat was all the man had left after his lover had died. Yes, he had known about the wolf’s relationship with Black. It almost made him sick to imagine Black’s filthy fingers touching the sensitive scarred perfection that was his now. He could imagine Lupin’s consternation over his enemy fucking the only thing he had left to love. The werewolf hadn’t said a single word since that scene earlier, a permanent frown etched into his brow. Severus sighed, maybe he shouldn’t have made the wolf witness that, he had been through enough. He frowned, where had that come from? That nagging feeling at his tiny heart, it was driving him near insane.

Severus shrugged the nasty feeling off and turned to walk into his chambers not noticing the glowing gold eyes turned to watch him. A tear rolled down a pale cheek as Lupin turned back to stare hatefully at the moon.
