Chapter 5-A Realization and Emily's Story
A/N: Ok, this is an extra long chapter, but I thought Emily's
backstory should be included, and the reason she's sleeping
with...well, you'll find out later. So, here it is, CHAP 5!

Chapter Five
The next morning I woke up with a strange feeling
of peace. For the first few moments, I had this utter inner peace.
I could have sworn that my prince had come and my fairy tale
come true, but no such luck. The world suddenly came crashing
down around me again, and memories of last night came flooding
back.
Even though I was mad at Emily for lying, and Draco for
lying for that matter, and just wished I could erase last night from
my memory, I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe, someday, it might
just be me up there with the springs a’ squeaking. That led to slightly
darker thoughts that made me blush just for thinking about them.
But then I realized I really had to get up and face whatever
was going to come my way today. So I forced myself to get up and get
going and in about a half hour (it would have been shorter, but I had
to spend ten minutes banging my head against the wall in order to get
the thoughts to go away again) I was on my way downstairs to throw
together some breakfast.
I was a bit surprised that everyone was already downstairs
except, to my relief, Ingrid. I didn’t think I could deal with her so soon
after yesterday. Draco was the only one to look up when I entered. I
was surprised that he didn’t look the least bit like he’d had a late night.
“Oh Jen, great, you’re just in time for breakfast. You can grab a plate
from the cupboard and the food’s on the counter. Help yourself,” he
said before viciously attacking his eggs.
I almost laughed. I had never imagined Draco Malfoy to
eat his food like that. ‘But I suppose he is human.’ I thought as I grabbed
a plate and filled it. I sat down and thought over last night a bit. Draco
didn’t look at all tired. In fact, if anything, he looked well rested.
I looked over at Emily, wondering if maybe I had just dreamt
the squeaking springs. But when I looked at Emily, I could tell that wasn’t
the case. She looked like she was about to fall asleep in her eggs. The
gears in my head continued to turn as I ate. ‘Emily looks exhausted, but
Draco doesn’t. I know I heard squeaking springs last night. Maybe Draco
used magic to hide it. But if that’s the case, why didn’t Emily?’ I thought.
Then it hit me. What if it hadn’t been Draco she was with last night?
What if it was with her other man? The only problem with that
theory was that it was her and Draco’s room wasn’t it? How had she snuck
him in? Shouldn’t Draco have been right there? I know I had heard no
more than two doors opening and closing, and they had all been on that
floor. And didn’t she sleep in the same room as Draco?
Then it hit me. That wasn’t true. When she had been dragging
me along on our way to catch up, she had definitely pointed out Draco’s
room. And it wasn’t the room above mine. In my stupidity, I had overlooked
that the rooms weren’t one and the same.
And Draco couldn’t have snuck into her room. The person had
definitely been on that floor to begin with. Draco’s room was two floors below,
on the floor under mine. I would have heard someone walk past my room,
which they would have had to in order to get to the stairs. Unless the person
had snuck onto that floor before I turned in, it had to be someone in the
house that lived on that floor.
‘Well,’ I thought. ‘The only two people living in this house,
besides Draco, Emily, and me, are house elves, Ingrid, and Sev-’ My thought
cut out as dawning realization hit me. I dropped my fork in shock, causing
everyone to look at me. I knew I must have looked like a deer in headlights.
“Jen, are you...ok?” asked Draco. I just shook my head, pushed my chair
away from the table, and practically sprinted to my room.
When I got up to my room, I just dropped onto the bed to gather
my thoughts. ‘Emily is having an affair with Severus. There, I said it. Well,
thought it anyway.’ I thought. How had this happened? I remembered that
Emily had had a bit of a thing for the potions master when we were at Hogwarts,
but I always thought it was just because he was dark, or dangerous, or some
weird reason girls fall for men like him.
I never thought she would actually do anything about the little
crush. But I guess she had, considering she was sleeping with him. ‘Oh for
Merlin's sake I know I didn’t just think that.” I thought. ‘Merlin, I’m gonna
give myself nightmares.’ Just then there was a soft knock at the door,
accompanied by a muffled voice. “Jen are you ok? It’s Emily. What happened
at breakfast this morning?” she asked.
I quickly opened the door and pulled her in, then closed the door
and cast a silencing spell. The I turned around and said, “Are you sleeping
with Snape?” She looked shocked and she also did a good impression of the
deer in the headlights look. “How did you know?” she said. It was so quiet,
I could barely hear it.
Then she started quietly sobbing and sank to the floor. In
between sobs she managed, “I-I-lo-love hi-him-Je-Jen.” I was so dumbstruck
that I couldn’t do anything but sink down and put my arm around her.
Slowly, her sobs turned to small sniffles. “Emily...why?” I asked. I was so
shocked and was just trying to grasp the situation
“I (sniff) told you, I (sniff) love him,” she said. “Well I know that
but why?” I asked, still trying to get over what she had just said. “Oh, well that
is a very long story. Do you have time?” she asked. “You might not even want
to know.” “I want to know. And I’ve got some time,” I said. “Well ok, if you
insist...” she said.
“Well, the beginning of our story is a bit...complex. You know how
I had a crush on him?” I nodded. “Well, I thought that was all it was, a little
crush, nothing more. But then the final battle came. When I was ouside fighting-”
“You fought in the final battle?” I asked. “Yes, but don’t interrupt,” she said.
“In the final battle, I actually ended up dueling a death eater.” My eyes went big.
I hadn’t even been allowed in the final battle. I had been stuck in the castle with
almost all the other students. How had Emily gotten out?
She seemed to know my question before I asked it. “I snuck out,” she
said. “I couldn’t sit by and let hundreds of innocents die. I didn’t really do
much, not in the larger scale, and no one but you, me, and Severus even
know I was out there. And I suppose Dumbledore probably knew as well.” “You’re
wondering why I told Severus. I didn’t. He saw me out there. And what’s more,
he saved me.” I was shocked. How had that happened? “
“As I said, I was dueling with a death eater, some big guy that had
been trying to kill poor Neville. He had just hit me with a curse, I think it was
some kind of complete body paralysis. He was looming over me laughing and
gloating. Then he held up his wand and was about to cast Avada Kedavra, when
someone hit him with a full body bind curse, like the one I had been hit with,
from behind.”
“He fell over almost immediately. Then I felt the curse on me
lifted. I looked up, expecting to see an order member, but instead, I was
looking at a death eater mask. I remember thinking, He bound one of his
own just to get to me? But then he let the mask fall for a second. It was
Severus.”
“I was surprised. I hadn’t thought of him as a traitor since he had
been cleared of killing Dumbledore, so I hadn’t quite expected him to be wearing
his death eater garb. He held out his hand, and helped me up. He said, “Go
straight to the castle. Don’t look back. You shouldn’t be out here.” I was mad
that he was talking to me like some little kid, so I drew my self up to full height
and said, “Professer Snape, I will do no such thing. Why should I? I am
seventeen, and I can make my own-” The he cut me off by kissing me. And
let me tell you, it was the best kiss of my young life.”
My eyes went way big. She blushed. “Yea well then he said, “That’s
why. I would hate myself if I let you stay out here and get yourself killed.” Then
he kissed me again and left. I was so shocked that I just headed back to the
castle without a fight. I waited for awhile just thinking about it. Everyone was
asking me where I had been and was I alright and stuff. I just kept nodding
until finally, I ended up in the hospital wing.”
“Madam Pomfrey was already swamped and so she just cast a quick
spell and said I was fine. The spell kind of shook me awake and suddenly I
realized where I was and offered to help. She was already swamped, so she
let me help, even though I had basically no experience. I was trying to figure
out what curse Luna had been hit with when someone brought Severus in.”
“I wanted to go see him more then anything, but Madam Pomfrey
told everyone to stay away until she had diagnosed him. So I went back to
trying to help Luna. Then, a few minutes later, someone brought the trio in and
all hell broke loose. Harry had defeated Voldemort, and we had won the war,
everyone was so happy, but we were trying to care for all the wounded people,
and there were a whole lot.”
“We ended up shipping the worst to St. Mungos and only kept those
we knew were just in shock or such. Severus ended up being one of the people
we kept. I was glad for that. Slowly, the people filtered out of the hospital wing.
Only a few with minor injuries that needed to stay overnight remained. I was
working on giving someone a Dreamless Sleep potion when I heard some loud
voices arguing and I went over to see why they were arguing. As I got closer,
I began to hear the voices.”
“Madam, I assure you, I do not need to-” “Ahh, but Severus, you
actually do. You are staying here overnight whether you want or not. But if you
don’t want to take Dreamless Sleep, then I’ll leave you to your nightmares.”
Then she turned on heel and walked into her office. I wanted to talk to Severus,
but first I needed to make sure I was no longer needed. When I walked in
Madam Pomfrey told me that she was all set, and that I should go to bed, as
that was what she was doing.”
“I told her I would, and then I went to see if Severus was still awake.
When I went to look, he looked like he was asleep. I was about to leave when he
reached out and grabbed my wrist. He said, “If you think, for one minute, that
you are going to get away from me that easy, you are sorely mistaken.” And well,
the rest is history.”
“We ‘dated’, if you could call it that, after I graduated. I actually loved

“This is gonna take me a little while.” “Ok, I’ll leave you to your thoughts.” she
said, as she stood up and made her way to the door. But just as she was about
to reach it, she turned around and added, “But you do know what this means don’t
you?” I shook my head. “Draco is yours for the taking.” Then she slowly slunk out
the door with a smirk on her face.
