Once Harry formulated his plan, he put it into action the next day, and simply sat back and waited. He did not have to wait long. Malfoy showed up at his flat in London the same evening. He was dressed in formal robes, as if he had caught wind of Harry\'s plan in the middle of an extravagant gala, and came immediately as if beckoned. Harry grinned at him in greeting and ushered him into the flat.
Harry noted with a little measure of surprise that Malfoy made himself at home wherever he went, even a modern Muggle flat where he was clearly out of his element. Harry served Malfoy a steaming cup of hard tea and Malfoy drank it intermittently, commenting on the unusual design on the mug, but without disdain. Harry explained the wonders of manufacturing and mass production. It was all very normal. Malfoy did not state the obvious, as Harry would have done, but every calculating glance around the room spoke loudly enough. I got your message.
\"Will you do it?\" Malfoy asked after Harry brought the subject up.
\"Yes,\" Harry answered simply.
\"I see.\" Malfoy set the half-full mug down on a coaster and sat back, staring Harry full in the face, perusing him. \"I understand that the meaning for sending the message was that you will require… my services.\"
Smirking, Harry moved to stand over Malfoy, who looked up at him through his fringe, not in the least intimidated. When Harry took Malfoy\'s wrist, Malfoy let him, and Malfoy stood when Harry signaled that he ought.
\"I told you when we last met that you made yourself clear.\" That hung between them for a moment. Malfoy gave no indication that he had heard at all, but Harry knew that he was paying avid attention to every word. That was well. \"I do not think that I have made myself clear.\"
Shaking his fringe from his face, Malfoy tilted his head back to look Harry in the eye. Using his preoccupation, Harry reached into his pocket and grabbed the charm there, going undetected.
\"The deadline to accept my offer has passed.\"
\"So this is revenge?\"
\"Hardly,\" Harry answered. \"You assumed correctly the first time, Malfoy. I am blackmailing you, but not for what you think, really. Your father will remain safely in hiding, enjoying his fine wines and breeding his prized Pegasi. No one will ever find him. If — be certain that this is your last chance to cooperate with me, Malfoy, before I take even harsher measures — if you join me.\" Harry caressed Malfoy\'s cheek, leaving no room for misunderstanding. Malfoy did not turn away from the touch. In fact, he did not react at all. \"What do you say? Will you be my partner?\"
From his pocket Harry pulled the strange, flexible, intricately woven obsidian band and presented it to Malfoy.
