The Surprises Never End Part I

Harry Potter and the Immortal Council
Chapter Six: The Surprises Never End

Last Time:

“I thought that Genetrix and Ava were going to school in Greece.”

“They are, but International Wizarding Competition is this year. Aunt Karla told me that Hogwarts is hosting and competing in the Competition. Ava will be coming because I am sure her boyfriend would not want to spend a year away from her if he can help it. Genetrix is the top of her year and the Competition is open to everyone 14 and older, so she is the first choice for Alexander’s champion.”

“What is the International Wizarding Competition?”

“It is a tournament much like the Triwizard Tournament, except that more that three schools compete and include schools in Asia and Africa. The tournament is held every two years and a different school hosts it each time. Each school takes turns in holding it and there are seven tasks.” Ivy explained.

“Okay, so what else is happening?”

They kept talking until Tom cam in around noon and asked if they want lunch. They ordered lunch and talked for another hour until they decided to go shopping for their school supplies.

“What classes are you going to take?” Ivy asked.

“I haven’t thought about it. I guess it’s time to open my O. W. L. results and find out how bad I did.” Harry answered.

“I am sure your test scores will be much better than you think they are. You never had much faith in your abilities Harry.”

“Can you blame me; I have had to live with the Dursleys all my life.”

“I know that. They are the exact reason you have low self esteem, low self confidence, and have a problem with saving people Harry. I do admit that your saving people thing has done well for your first four years at Hogwarts but we are entering a war and you need to distrust everyone until they prove that they deserve your trust. My parents, your parents, and both sets of my grandparents made that mistake and it cost them their lives. I do not want the same thing to happen to you if I can help it.”

“I’m sorry I snapped at you like that, it’s just that ever since the Department of Mysteries I’ve been trying to make sense of my life and everything that has happened.”

“The sweet little boy I left nine years ago is still inside of you I guess. Open your OWL results already so we can get our school supplies.”

“You were right, I did a lot better than I thought I would.” Harry said as he opened his letter and read his results.

“What did you get?” Ivy asked as Harry handed her the paper.

“You did better than you thought you would, you most likely have some of the best results in your year. I will bet anything that you thought you had gotten T’s in everything. Let’s take a look at your supply list before we go to Gringotts.”

Harry opened his letter, skipped the usual introduction, and picked out his supply list.

“What’s up, it looks different from what they usually send.” Harry said as he looked at the piece of paper.

“They have you chose your classes from that. You circle the nine or less classes you are planning to take this year and when you’re done it magically transfers the information to Hogwarts, then your supply list appears. Aunt Karla told me how to do it from her years at Hogwarts. They always put it in the introduction for sixth years.”

“I guess you haven’t changed that much either. Why don’t we get an ice cream and I can pick my classes?”

“Okay.”

They walked over to the ice cream shop and both ordered chocolate chip. Then they took a seat near the door and looked into each other’s eyes.

“So what classes do you think I should take?” Harry asked

“I don’t know; let me see what classes they are offering.” I asked as Harry handed her the list.

“Okay, I know for a fact that you should take Advanced Charms, Advanced DADA, Advanced Potions, Advanced Transfiguration, Dueling, and History of Dark Arts. I would also recommend Advanced Care of Magical Creatures and Advanced Herbology. That would leave you with a free period or you could pick another class.” Ivy answered.

“I don’t know about Advanced Potions or Advanced Transfiguration. I think I should just take the regular classes.”

“Hermione is considered a master in Potions, which means she will most likely sit down with you all night to have you do well.”

“What do you mean by a master?”

“It goes beyond what they teach you in school, you usually have to go through about two years of studying under someone who is an expert in a field of study. In Hermione’s case, she was taught everything Snape in teaching you at Hogwarts and studied under Aunt Karla for two years. Hermione and Snape are equals when it comes to Potions expertise.”

“She never said anything this entire time.” Harry said in amazement.

“Hermione also has a master in Herbology, DADA, Arithminy, Ancient Runes, Transfiguration, Charms, and Dark Arts. She couldn’t say anything or someone could have figured out who she is.” Ivy explained.

“Who is Hermione exactly?”

“She is still the same person, but she did leave out a few things.”

“A few things, she left out much more information than a few little facts.”

“Harry, this is so much more complicated than you can possibly imagine. Please understand that she had no choice.”

“Is it that complicated that you can’t explain all this to me?”

“My family has more influence over the wizarding world that anyone else, including Albus Dumbledore. The head of the Marcus family is considered by most to be the most powerful person on Earth. Mama is the head of my family now, but she is retiring this year and Hermione is taking her place. A few years ago, Mama was going to choose between Ava, Hermione, and myself but Ava said she didn’t want any of it and had enough money to live on her own, and I told her that I didn’t want it either. The truth was I always thought Hermione would be a better choice than I could ever be. If Hermione hadn’t created the mask, she shows Hogwarts, Malfoy and every other Slytherin would grovel in front of her on a regular basis. That is how much power my family has in the wizarding world.”

“Would he do that if he found out who she was because Hermione is a pureblood?”

“Hermione is a half blood like Voldemort, muggle father and a magical mother. Uncle Henry is a muggle dentist.”

“Okay, then why would Malfoy grovel in front of her?”

“My family can trace its history back over 10,000 years, even if Aunt Karla was a squib Hermione’s blood would still be purer than his, then there is the family fortune and who we are related to by blood or marriage. Does that explain it well enough?”

“That is code for ‘I don’t want to explain the rest of it in public’, isn’t it?”

“Yes, after we finish supply shopping and I run those errands Mama asked me to you can visit my house for dinner and talk to Hermione herself.”

“She is staying with you?”

“Yes, Mama insisted they stay with us while she put new wards on their house.”

“Okay, I guess I’ll take the advanced classes since you and Hermione will be available if I need help. I am also going to take business management, for some reason I feel like I’m going to need it.” Harry said to Ivy.

“Let’s head over to Gringotts then, Mama asked me to do something there.” Ivy said as they got up and walked towards the door.

“You never told me what classes you’re planning to take.”

“I signed up for Dueling, History of Dark Arts, Advanced Care of Magical Creatures, Advanced Charms, Advanced DADA, Advanced Herbology, Advanced Potions, and Advanced Transfiguration. I didn’t want or need to take anything else.”

“So we will have all the same classes except Business Management. Good, I’m going to need your help. Do you play Quiddtich?”

“No, Genetrix and Edric do though. We all have are talents, Ava sings, Hermione writes, I invent things, Roxana is good with little kids, Drake is a good at crafting stuff, and Xavier is the one who likes to cook.” Ivy stated as they entered Gringotts.

“I need to speak to the head goblin please.” Ivy said to a goblin.

“What is your business?” The goblin said back.

“I need to talk with him about the Portcallo vaults and Freya Anasa Marcus Grimm sent me here with a letter for him.”

“Please follow me madam, I will take you to him.”

They followed the goblin to a hallway of what appeared to be offices. They stopped at the end of the hallway in front of a door that read Head Goblin on it. The goblin went inside to announce they were outside wanting to speak to him. The goblin came out a few seconds later and opened the door for them. Harry and Ivy walked in and took the two seats in front of the desk.

“Grinhom tells me you wanted to talk with me about the Portcallo vaults, so what is it?” The head goblin asked.

“The Portcallo vaults were entrusted to Freya Marcus Grimm in the will of James Potter, they were to be returned to his only child when they turned sixteen or if Freya thought it best before that time. Freya would like the vaults returned to Harry and everything else that was entrusted to her for safekeeping.”

“Very well, but I was told to report anything that happened to Mr. Potter’s vaults to Albus Dumbledore.”

“You’re not going to though.”

“No, I won’t. The last will and testament of Sirius Black also has to be read and he left instructions that only his godson be read what it says exactly.”

Harry inhaled deeply and felt Ivy place her hand on his arm. She looked at him and he nodded his head.

“That would be fine; here is the letter she sent you. I have no idea what it says.” Ivy said as she handed the envelope to him.

The head goblin took the letter and opened it. He had a look of mild surprise as he read it.

“The letter says that Mr. Potter is to be fully emancipated as soon as he signs the paperwork with his family lawyer.” The head goblin told them.

“Are you serious?” Ivy asked, looking at the letter.

“Yes, that is what she wrote.” The head goblin answered.

“I guess we’ll visit Mr. McDamon first, then the vaults.” Ivy said.

“I will have Grinhom show you to Mr. McDamon’s office.”

“Thank you.”

Grinhom appeared and started leading them down the hallway.

“Who is Mr. McDamon and what did you mean by emancipated?” Harry asked as the followed Grinhom.

“Mr. McDamon was your parents’ lawyer, he is now yours. When you are emancipated in the wizarding world, it means you’re legally considered an adult before you are seventeen. You are now able to inherit everything that your
parents and Sirius may have left you.” Ivy explained to him.

“Does that mean I can’t get in trouble for doing magic outside of school?”

“Yes, it also means that you don’t have to live with the Dursleys anymore.”

“Are you serious?”

“Yes, although I think it would be a good idea to go back until Sunday so you can pack and explain this to the Dursleys.”

“Since I’m leaving them forever I guess I can stay until Sunday.”

“We still have Dumbledore to deal with, so don’t relax yet.”

“This is Mr. McDamon’s office, I’ll wait outside.” Grinhom told them.

Ivy knocked on the door and a moment later, it was opened to reveal a man with dark hair and looked to be in his sixties.

“How can I help you today Miss Marcus?” The man asked.

A second later, he looked over at Harry and saw his scar.

“Mr. Potter, an honor to finally meet you, I am Mr. McDamon. I suppose that you are here for the will reading, please come in.” Mr. McDamon said.

“It’s nice to meet you Mr. McDamon.” Harry answered.

“Have you already heard about your emancipation?” Mr. McDamon asked.

“Yes, would it mean that the laws on underage magic wouldn’t apply to me?”

“Not only would it not apply to you, none of the British Ministry’s other laws would apply to you either because you legal guardian is a Greek citizen and that places you under the protection of the Greek Ministry of Magic. If you decide not to sign the papers, once you turn seventeen you would have to abide by the British Ministry’s laws.”

“I will sign the papers, but what about anything my parents or Sirius left me?”

“You will gain full control over anything they left for you. Freya has made all of this cut and dry so that no one will able to try anything. All I need you to do is sign at the bottom and you are officially an adult.” Mr. McDamon told him as he held out a pen.

Harry took the pen and signed the piece of paper.

“Sirius arranged for you to inherit everything he had at the time of his death, and if you were underage it would be entrusted to your godmother until you were an adult. The Ministry has tried to confiscate his vaults, houses, and everything else several times since his arrest, but they have been stopped each time. He left you a very rich man, and if you add that to what your parents had when they died, it would make you the second richest person in the wizarding world. I am afraid that you have no where near the amount of money that Freya Marcus Grimm controls, but you are still the only person on this earth that has the wealth to compare to the Marcus fortune.”

“Who is my godmother?”

“Freya Marcus Grimm, did Dumbledore not tell you?”

“No, he never tells me anything.”

“I am sure Miss Marcus can fill you in later. You have fifteen vaults here, ten in the Greek branch of Gringotts, and nine in Egypt that you have inherited. The vaults in Greece and Egypt belong to your father’s family as well as nine here. One vault belonged to your mother and the rest were Sirius’s. James Potter had six manors here in Britain, four in Greece, two in Egypt, penthouses in Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Stockholm, Vienna, Budapest, Moscow, Singapore, and New York City. Lily inherited a manor in Kent from her grandparents. Sirius has Number 12 Grimmauld Place, and a manor near Edinburgh. There are also businesses and other things as well. I drew up a listing of businesses that your father owned. There is also the matter of what to do with Hogwarts.”

“What about it?”

“It is stated in the wills of the four founders that if a dark lord or a servant of one was to gain power within Hogwarts as a teacher or school governor that the school would be placed in the hands of their descendants. Lucius Malfoy was a school governor and their collective wills also stated that the Ministry should never have any control over the school at any time.”

“What would that have to do with me?

“You are the last remaining heir of Godric Gryffindor. Did Dumbledore say nothing? He has known for quite a few years.”

“How can I be the heir of Gryffindor?”

“He was your great grandfather forty times over I think. You are related to him though your father’s family.” Ivy answered.

“I had thought that Dumbledore would have told you that.” Mr. McDamon said.

“It’s like I said before, he never tells me anything. So what does all this mean?” Harry said.

“It means you and the three other owners will take control of Hogwarts once all of you are officially adults, and abolishing the school governors in the process.” Mr. McDamon stated.

“How long will that be?” Harry asked.

“The youngest is a fifth year, so only another two years.” Mr. McDamon answered.

“Who are the others?”

“The other heiresses are Hermione Jane Marcus Granger, Susan Adama Bones, and Luna Elayne Lovegood.”

“I’ll explain later Harry.” Ivy said, as he looked at him with his eyes narrowed.

“Is there anything else I need to know before we visit the vaults?” Harry asked.

“There is the matter of what would happen if you married or had children. We can talk about that in more detail when we come to that point. I’ll take you down to the vaults now. Miss Marcus, is there anything we need to take care of before I take you to your vaults?” Mr. McDamon stated.

“No, I just need some money out of my vaults.” Ivy said.

“If that is everything, I will take you to your vaults. Mr. Potter, from which vault do you wish to withdraw?” Mr. McDamon asked.

“I think I’ll just take a look at all of the vaults. Is it going to be possible to keep this a secret?” Harry asked.

“Who do you want to keep it a secret from?” Mr. McDamon questioned.

This chapter was too long to submit in one piece, and it would have taken me forever to write. I hope you like it. My time after school is spent writing, drawing, and doing homework, so I am working on this story.
