Chapter 6
Chapter 6
He read and reread the letter over and over again. At first, he wanted to throw it straight into the fire. Usually, those types of sentiments made him uncomfortable and angry. But there was something comfortable about the way she wrote to him.
Professor Snape,
I wish to convey my gratitude for your help this afternoon. I feared greatly for my safety and was overwhelmed with relief at the sight of you.
I wish to thank you properly and would very much like it if you were to join me for a drink this evening after dinner. I do have an ulterior motive as well. I am currently working hard at catching up on my wizarding history and could use some help. I have read many books and as you saw yesterday, bought many more to help me. But it would help me even more if I had someone to pose my questions to.
So if you are so inclined, I will see you tonight around 8:00pm
Best wishes,
Chloe Browning
If he were so inclined….his mind went into overdrive. Dare he go, knowing what sort of thoughts he has had of her of late? For in fact, he couldn’t get the image of her out of his head. He even caught Dumbledore smirking at him as he shared a drink with him last night in his office. Dumbledore had undoubtedly saw her face in his mind . If he were to go, he had…three hours to decide.
********
He paced his private office. Dinner was over thirty minutes ago. He had taken his dinner in his office. It was now 7:55pm and he still had not decided. He cursed himself and decided not to go. He sat down and took a deep breath. He could draft a letter of regret to her and have a house elf deliver it for him.
He simply had too much to do. He had…papers to grade. No…he had already done that. 7:58pm. He was tired as well. He hadn’t slept right in days. He usually ended up taking a sleeping draught, but ended up taking too much and was dragging all the next day.
7:59pm
He just couldn’t do it. He would end up feeling uncomfortable and strange. He had never visited another professor in their private chambers, other than the Headmaster.
Bloody Hell!

Chloe decided to dress casual, yet not too casual. She wore a flowing skirt, made of a nice cotton material. Her shirt had long flowing sleeves, though, it was cut a bit low. She decided to go barefoot. She always felt more comfortable being barefoot. She tied her hair in a knot on the top of her head and nodded to her reflection in the mirror.
Now all she had to do was wait. 7:50pm
She had pulled out all of the books she had on Hogwarts and the wizarding world. She even went so far as to earmark the pages containing things she did not understand. Like, all of the magical creatures she had never heard of. Why Centaurs don’t have anything to do with humans anymore? Why are there some free house elves and others still serving wizards as slaves?
Then there is the whole war with…what was him name again? Oh…right…no one will print it. That You-Know-Who everyone keeps talking about. Professor Snape was bound to know something about that that she couldn’t learn from books. She was also intrigued by the sad stories she has been reading about Harry Potter. Since Harry Potter was a student at Hogwarts, not long ago, she assumed that Professor Snape might have known him. It would be interesting to hear about him from someone who knew him.
7:59pm
She rearranged the wine and tea on the tray Frenny brought to her earlier. Frenny flatly refused to serve drinks to Professor Snape. That suited Chloe just fine. She really wanted to be alone with him. Not for any other reason other than people like him are more comfortable one on one. After everything Hagrid had told her, she was sure now that Professor Snape hated being at parties. Like the one he was undoubtedly forced to go to in her honor.
Bloody hell, where was he?
